UN ambassador hoping Iran, Cuba will live by the promise of hashtag, free imprisoned journalists

As Twitchy reported Wednesday night, Secretary of State John Kerry, keynote speaker at the Vietnam War Summit, left the audience with one overriding message: “If we forget, we cease to learn.”

After closing the Iran nuclear deal, the State Department quickly learned that its new “deal partner” had no intention of changing its ways. And today, Samantha Power, United States Ambassador to the United Nations, seems to have forgotten that nations like Russia and Iran can’t be counted on to “live by the promise of hashtag.”

Now that President Obama and his family have done “the wave” with Raul Castro at the ballpark, one phone call from our shiny new U.S. embassy in Cuba should take care of that unpleasantness. Next?

Today, Power turned the spotlight on Mohammad Seddigh Kaboudvand, imprisoned in Iran for reporting on … torture in Iranian prisons.

Speaking of Russia, Power also tweeted that the United Nations Security Council was meeting Thursday to discuss Russian aggression in Ukraine; which, if we remember correctly, inspired the State Department’s first hashtag campaign, #UnitedForUkraine. That was two years ago this week and doesn’t seem to have made an impression of Vladimir Putin.

Russia is refusing to let U.N. inspectors do their job? It’s a good thing we can trust Iran to cooperate with nuclear inspections.
