Since 1996, the White House has hosted an iftar dinner, during which Muslims break their Ramadan fasts in the company of administration officials. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee chose to boycott this year’s event, stating that “we do not believe it is appropriate to attend iftar dinners sponsored by government agencies while lives are being lost.”
