Kyle Rittenhouse will not face gun charges in Illinois after investigation showed he never possessed the rifle there

You likely remember 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, who shot and killed two and wounded a third during rioting in Kenosha, Wisconsin over the police shooting of Jacob Blake. Word quickly spread around social media that Rittenhouse was a white supremacist — as the Biden campaign suggested in a recent ad — who had broken the law by crossing state lines with a firearm. Now we’re learning that a police investigation showed that he never had possession of the rifle in Illinois and that the Smith & Wesson .223 caliber rifle “was purchased, stored and used in Wisconsin.”

The Chicago Tribune reports that Rittenhouse still faces a charge in Illinois of possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18, a misdemeanor. Of course, he’s still facing murder charges in Wisconsin as well.
