As Twitchy reported earlier, President Trump referred to 2020 presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg as Alfred E. Neuman, the well-known MAD Magazine mascot, and Buttigieg zinged back by saying it must be “a generational thing” — he had to Google it. In other words, Trump, 72, was yelling at Buttigieg, 37, to get off his lawn.
Before all the blue-check journalists circle the wagons to protect Mayor Pete from any further attacks, they might want to take a second look at that “generational thing” excuse.
Look, it’s Tim Miller from over at The Bulwark:
Alfred E Neuman first appeared in Mad Magazine in 1954. When Pete was negative 28 years old. https://t.co/CWMgfybTCh

Also first appeared in 1954:

Oh.

And Alfred never again appeared anywhere.

And he never appeared again, right? Not on magazine covers, TV shows, or anything else.

Mad Magazine has been published every month since.

…and has been on just about every cover since. This is the June, 2019 cover. It wasn't a one and done back in 1954…. pic.twitter.com/msskj8DJjW

We’re old enough to remember Mad TV, with Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.
Calling Alfred E. Neuman an old fogey reference is like calling Bugs Bunny an old fogey reference. “Hey, he referred to something made back in the 30s!”
You’re sounding like idiots trying to pretend Trump didn’t make a good barb for once.

How old was Pete when Mickey Mouse was introduced? https://t.co/MAtOChzbDd

Snoopy first appeared four years earlier, in 1950. I suppose that means Pete’s never heard of him either.

I only know about things that happened after I was born

The only people who think this insincere ageist remark is cute and relevant are the same people who think that @JoeBiden is cute and relevant.

Seems Neuman’s been pretty busy on the political scene recently:
2005: “Hillary Clinton compares Bush to Alfred E. Neuman”https://t.co/HImLhWT6KX

The Atlantic, 2010: “Alfred E. Neuman Dumps Obama” https://t.co/MwvowDVQRu

“Though he’s often interpreted as a symbol of idiocy—most prominently in a spate of appearances during George W. Bush’s reign” https://t.co/ETV9GSu4lJ

But Pete never even having heard of him is impressive or a burn or something
— Orange Muppet Energy (@sunnyright) May 11, 2019
I can’t believe the Atlantic made an old fogey reference. They must not be hip like SE Cupp.
