'Whoa, a WOW story': Trump administration to render 1.4 million transgendered people nonexistent

You know how presidential candidate Barack Obama got elected by saying things like, “I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman,” and then “evolved” more and more as his presidency continued? And a lot of the things on which he evolved were either decided by the courts, couched in executive actions, or decreed to school districts?

Now the Trump administration is rolling some of Obama’s declarations back, and the progressives aren’t happy.

The New York Times reports:

The Trump administration is considering narrowly defining gender as a biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth, the most drastic move yet in a governmentwide effort to roll back recognition and protections of transgender people under federal civil rights law.

A series of decisions by the Obama administration loosened the legal concept of gender in federal programs, including in education and health care, recognizing gender largely as an individual’s choice and not determined by the sex assigned at birth. The policy prompted fights over bathrooms, dormitories, single-sex programs and other arenas where gender was once seen as a simple concept. Conservatives, especially evangelical Christians, were incensed.

Now the Department of Health and Human Services is spearheading an effort to establish a legal definition of sex under Title IX, the federal civil rights law that bans gender discrimination in education programs that receive government financial assistance, according to a memo obtained by The New York Times.

So, the administration would define gender as a biological condition determined by genitalia at birth?

My friend is 9 weeks pregnant and already had a blood test to know the sex of her baby. And then of course there's the gender reveal party coming. Then they're going to grow up and deny their sex? You may have proclivities to another sex but you are only and will be only one sex

The protections they are invoking are all female-based so none of this would impact transmen.

It seems to be more along the lines of the feminist/LGBT obsession with specifically recognizing transwomen as women.

It is curious as the Left has been in a continuous panic-outrage over the possibility of Roe being overturned. If they had their way and gender identity trumped biological sex then the majority of Roe would no longer be relevant and would be easily argued as discriminatory.

The entire transgender movement right now seems to be centered around forcing everyone to agree, officially, legally and personally, that males who identify as females are women.

Gay legal issues became popular because gays largely integrated into society and people saw our relationships, families and everyday lives and recognized why certain legal protections mattered.

While it is currently in vogue for liberals to virtue signal support for transgender rights (even if they have absolutely no idea what that means), the argument lacks a lot of generalized sympathy due to the way the trans movement has approached activism.

I would guess that average people oppose any form of discrimination against anyone, but do not like being told they are hateful bigots for using the wrong pronoun, raising an eyebrow to childhood transition efforts and being concerned about obvious men barging into women's spaces

I think the Democrats see this as a 'right side of history' thing, similar to supporting same-sex marriage, but they might underestimate the reality that nonpolitical people do not view gender the way gender activists demand they should or care about the issues at all.

The best argument for transgenderism was freedom of choice. But activists have gone far beyond that now to active coercion of ideology, intimidating academia and medicine from questioning their theories and demanding universal recognition of those theories.

I am just not sure how the average Democrat will view the basis of their political movement being on what men who dress as and identify as women are allowed to do in public. It is possible the reward of liberal social recognition might be motivation enough, but I'm not sure.

Alongside this is the nonbinary movement which has been equally championed by LGBT but without consideration on the contradictory impact it poses to transgender 'rights.' Without a gender at all, gender protections become meaningless.

There is one important issue for me.

If we allow people to fully transition surgically, change their name and legal gender and even their birth certificate, then we cannot decide to only recognize 'sex' by genetic testing.

Gender 'identity' is not enough. But transition is.

I would argue that in order for transgender people to be fully recognized by the government under protection laws, we need firm and standardized definitions of sex for them to use as evidence they qualify under their preferred sex.

Transgender activists used to argue they simply wanted to be fully recognized as their preferred gender (when gender and sex were the same thing).

Now they seem obsessed with the idea society must legally and culturally validate how they *feel* about their gender instead.

Previously the transgender person sought to obtain full surgical transition and then, after altering their body, sought legal recognition as their new gender. Then they wished to live as that gender fully.

Now they just want to announce a new gender and get federal benefits.

I think people should be free to express their gender as they see fit in their personal lives and reasonably at work per dress code policy. People should be able to medically transition and legally change gender. And people should be free to opt out of participation it all of it.
