You know how presidential candidate Barack Obama got elected by saying things like, “I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman,” and then “evolved” more and more as his presidency continued? And a lot of the things on which he evolved were either decided by the courts, couched in executive actions, or decreed to school districts?
Now the Trump administration is rolling some of Obama’s declarations back, and the progressives aren’t happy.
Whoa, a WOW story — the Trump Admin has a new definition of sex that would render 1.4 million transgendered people legally nonexistent: sex is "a person’s status as male or female based on immutable biological traits identifiable by or before birth.” https://t.co/tGgtA2wGZO
— (((JonathanWeisman))) (@jonathanweisman) October 21, 2018
The Trump administration is considering narrowly defining gender as a biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth, the most drastic move yet in a governmentwide effort to roll back recognition and protections of transgender people under federal civil rights law.
A series of decisions by the Obama administration loosened the legal concept of gender in federal programs, including in education and health care, recognizing gender largely as an individual’s choice and not determined by the sex assigned at birth. The policy prompted fights over bathrooms, dormitories, single-sex programs and other arenas where gender was once seen as a simple concept. Conservatives, especially evangelical Christians, were incensed.
Now the Department of Health and Human Services is spearheading an effort to establish a legal definition of sex under Title IX, the federal civil rights law that bans gender discrimination in education programs that receive government financial assistance, according to a memo obtained by The New York Times.
So, the administration would define gender as a biological condition determined by genitalia at birth?
"This administration hates science!"
"Okay. Here's some science."
"WHOA BUDDY! Not THAT science!" https://t.co/3iY5tirpjz

Now who is denying #science ?
— All American Girl (@AIIAmericanGirI) October 22, 2018
— JC Moreau (@TheStrengthU) October 21, 2018
Ummmm that is the definition. You’re either male or female at birth.
— Brian Perry (@Perrybr231) October 21, 2018
New definition? It's always been this way. It's the progressive Left that wanted to change it. #science
— REALLY!?! ¯_(ツ)_/¯ (@OscarGaldona) October 22, 2018
Science is not about your feelings or what you think. So take away all the dramaticism, biology is what it is.
— Chuck Clark (@ChuckCl02676844) October 22, 2018
New??? WOW??? I think you misspelled “literally the only definition of sex before a generation got offended by everything and decided that they wanted to use the other bathrooms in hopes that the line was shorter”. And there was something about pronouns in there too.
— Ricky Dyer (@imrickjamesss) October 22, 2018
No matter what a person does you are born male or female.
— Teresa † ن (@BlackIrishI) October 22, 2018
That is literally the definition of the sexes. Identify as you wish, but science is science.
— Betsy Brantner Smith (@sgtbetsysmith) October 22, 2018
How is that a new definition?
— Nate (on the) Stone (@nes_nathan) October 21, 2018
My friend is 9 weeks pregnant and already had a blood test to know the sex of her baby. And then of course there's the gender reveal party coming. Then they're going to grow up and deny their sex? You may have proclivities to another sex but you are only and will be only one sex
— Seekandfind (@Seekandfind) October 22, 2018
As far as science reaches there two sexes. What you think you are does not change the genetic structure of an individual
— Montesinos (@EduMon8) October 22, 2018
That would be the correct definition, would it not?
— Snarky retired Cop (@GlenHilts) October 21, 2018
That is literally the exact definition that has been used used for the entire span of human existence, except for a minuscule handful of Progressives in the last few decades.
— Cstamp (@Honda753) October 22, 2018
Not sure you understand what nonexistent means….
— BRY (@Br17zle) October 22, 2018
How would they be nonexistent? They'd still have birth certificates, driving licenses, employment records, everything that everyone else has. You talk as if Trump were making people disappear from the face of the earth.
— JackTaylor (@JackTay84063799) October 22, 2018
Make them nonexistent? Drama much? They would still exist as their biologically determined sex, not as how they “feel.” Your feelings do not change your biological make up. They’re still allowed to live however they choose.

We’re thankful we can always turn to Chad Felix Greene, author of the “Reasonably Gay” series, for an epic thread that retells the media narrative after stripping out all of the drama and hysteria:
Trump administration wants to abolish transgender rights:https://t.co/dEj6X7ZDmq … pic.twitter.com/KQEUtk5fND

No it doesn't. https://t.co/68zI9dKWfg

What rights specifically require the government to recognize an individual's personal choice in gender identity?
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 22, 2018
All federal protections and laws that specifically recognize and distinguish a person based on an arbitrary characteristic should be abolished.
That will fix all of this nonsense.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 22, 2018
The protections they are invoking are all female-based so none of this would impact transmen.
It seems to be more along the lines of the feminist/LGBT obsession with specifically recognizing transwomen as women.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 22, 2018
BTW, this memo has been circulating since last spring and they only brought it up now to create panic and outrage ahead of the midterms.
Obviously the Trump admin has done nothing with it all this time and its just a useful manufactured outrage talking point.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 22, 2018
It is curious as the Left has been in a continuous panic-outrage over the possibility of Roe being overturned. If they had their way and gender identity trumped biological sex then the majority of Roe would no longer be relevant and would be easily argued as discriminatory.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 22, 2018
'Unless you have a uterus, you should shut up about women's reproductive rights!"
'Some men have periods.'
'Transwomen are women.'
'Roe v Wade gave women the right to abortion.'
'Pregnant transmen are fathers.'
'The father has no say in a woman's body re: pregnancy.'
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 22, 2018
The entire transgender movement right now seems to be centered around forcing everyone to agree, officially, legally and personally, that males who identify as females are women.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 22, 2018
Gay legal issues became popular because gays largely integrated into society and people saw our relationships, families and everyday lives and recognized why certain legal protections mattered.
Trans have largely approached avg America with hostility and force.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 23, 2018
While it is currently in vogue for liberals to virtue signal support for transgender rights (even if they have absolutely no idea what that means), the argument lacks a lot of generalized sympathy due to the way the trans movement has approached activism.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 23, 2018
I would guess that average people oppose any form of discrimination against anyone, but do not like being told they are hateful bigots for using the wrong pronoun, raising an eyebrow to childhood transition efforts and being concerned about obvious men barging into women's spaces
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 23, 2018
I think the Democrats see this as a 'right side of history' thing, similar to supporting same-sex marriage, but they might underestimate the reality that nonpolitical people do not view gender the way gender activists demand they should or care about the issues at all.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 23, 2018
The best argument for transgenderism was freedom of choice. But activists have gone far beyond that now to active coercion of ideology, intimidating academia and medicine from questioning their theories and demanding universal recognition of those theories.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 23, 2018
I am just not sure how the average Democrat will view the basis of their political movement being on what men who dress as and identify as women are allowed to do in public. It is possible the reward of liberal social recognition might be motivation enough, but I'm not sure.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 23, 2018
Alongside this is the nonbinary movement which has been equally championed by LGBT but without consideration on the contradictory impact it poses to transgender 'rights.' Without a gender at all, gender protections become meaningless.
Do they know what they are fighting for?
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 23, 2018
There is one important issue for me.
If we allow people to fully transition surgically, change their name and legal gender and even their birth certificate, then we cannot decide to only recognize 'sex' by genetic testing.
Gender 'identity' is not enough. But transition is.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 23, 2018
I would argue that in order for transgender people to be fully recognized by the government under protection laws, we need firm and standardized definitions of sex for them to use as evidence they qualify under their preferred sex.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 23, 2018
Transgender activists used to argue they simply wanted to be fully recognized as their preferred gender (when gender and sex were the same thing).
Now they seem obsessed with the idea society must legally and culturally validate how they *feel* about their gender instead.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 23, 2018
Previously the transgender person sought to obtain full surgical transition and then, after altering their body, sought legal recognition as their new gender. Then they wished to live as that gender fully.
Now they just want to announce a new gender and get federal benefits.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 23, 2018
I think people should be free to express their gender as they see fit in their personal lives and reasonably at work per dress code policy. People should be able to medically transition and legally change gender. And people should be free to opt out of participation it all of it.
— Chad Felix Greene (@chadfelixg) October 23, 2018
Anyone feeling like opting out?
