Sad news tonight as we learn that a Virginia state trooper who was reportedly approached by a man at a bus station in Richmond and shot in the chest has died from his injuries. The suspect was shot and killed by police at the scene and two others were reported wounded.

According to WTVR, Virginia State Police confirmed Thursday night that Trooper Chad Dermyer, 37, a former Marine with a wife and two children, died from multiple gunshot wounds sustained during a drug interdiction training exercise.

A spokesperson said only that the shooter approached Dermyer, who was dressed in an “identifiable” outfit, and then drew a gun and opened fire.
