VIP: JD Vance Is Growing As a Candidate

When Trump picked JD Vance, I was not thrilled. I even wrote a VIP about him being a bad choice, but not so bad it would lose Trump the Presidency. I still believe a pick like Youngkin, who could have brought in Virginia, could have been fabulous but I will happily admit Vance is growing on me.

JD Vance is growing as a candidate and they keep trying to paint him as weird and creepy, but it does not seem to be hitting the mark. While Vance may have some ideas people are not crazy about, the people it seems to offend most are the people who were never going to vote for Trump in the first place. Vance has worded a few things badly, but he speaks clearly and is pretty funny. Being funny in your responses can go a long way. He also looks comfortable in interviews.

He has grown a lot in my opinion. This is going to seem weird and it might make some people upset, but he sometimes reminds me of DeSantis. I see DeSantis-like character because he seems like a regular person, who had to work hard to get where he is and is trying to navigate how ridiculous Washington DC is with common sense. He even has a way of speaking similar to DeSantis but more animated and off the cuff. I say this as someone who was a DeSantis primary supporter, but even those of us who still love DeSantis can admit he can sometimes be stiff. Vance seems to have mastered the common sense style of DeSantis and has the same warm humor of DeSantis when he is fired up with none of the stiffness.

Don't get me wrong, I still totally want DeSantis in 2028 but I do see some similarities in Vance, and to me, that is a good thing.

Here is an example of how he makes clear points but balances everything with something funny.

The comparison of Walz to Vance could not be more stark. JD has a story, he did not waltz into anything in his life. His service to his country is well documented and it could not be clear as to why he got into politics to begin with, contrast that with Walz who is so mired down with his lies about his service and his record of being a tiny tyrant during COVID and you will have JD come out as a winner every time.

Combine JD's story with his quick responses and easy-to-quote comebacks, and he can win people over in the Vice Presidential debate. The more he is out there on the campaign trail and in the public eye, he seems to be comfortable with who he is, what he believes, and why he is running with Trump in the first place. So even though I was not his biggest fan when he was chosen, and I still believe there may have been better options, Vance is growing and so is my opinion of him as a candidate.

And no matter what, he is better than the person I thought Trump was going to pick, PLUS he has shown he can 100% beat Walz in a head-to-head and that makes me happy. :)
