All across the Twittersphere, heads are meeting desks after Ga. Rep. Phil Gingrey, an OB/GYN, called Todd Akin’s controversial “legitimate rape” comments “partially right.” We’d hoped we were past this, but alas.

“And I’ve delivered lots of babies, and I know about these things. It is true,” Gingrey said. “We tell infertile couples all the time that are having trouble conceiving because of the woman not ovulating, ‘Just relax. Drink a glass of wine. And don’t be so tense and uptight because all that adrenaline can cause you not to ovulate.’ So he was partially right wasn’t he?”

No. No no no no no.

Bipartisanship!

After the Akin fiasco and the Left’s continued barrage of “the GOP hates women!!!11!” propaganda:

Gingrey really should know better:

He claims his comments were merely misconstrued:

Via The Hill:

“At a breakfast yesterday morning, I was asked why Democrats made abortion a central theme of the presidential campaign. I do not defend, nor do I stand by, the remarks made by Rep. Akin and Mr. Mourdock. In my attempt to provide context as to what I presumed they meant, my position was misconstrued,” Gingrey’s office said in a statement.

Hey — here’s a great way to avoid being “misconstrued”:

That’s good advice. Take it.

well, stress is not our friend 😉

It’s still stupid and ridiculous to try and silence the Congressman and OBGYN for his comments that are being purposefully misconstrued.

Really? I mean seriously, you would think the conservative wing of the GOP are actually Undercover Dems

I agree. They need to shut up.

Can someone tell all Republicans who are too stupid to figure it out for themselves that every corrupt biased member of the media WILL ask you questions with the single objective of trapping you into saying something they can attack you over. Please!!! The only two correct responses to any of these questions is:

    1. That’s a clown question bro

    or…

    2. SHUT UP!!!

all these so called conservatives need to stop having an emotional temper tantrum about this. the biology is there and gingrey is right. STOP LETTING THE LEFT DETERMINE YOUR EMOTIONAL REACTION to things. we are for the truth, however politically inconvenient it may be. by saying this or that person needs to shut up, especially when they speak truth, you are no better than the liberals/progressives you progress to oppose. i know you well hate me now. but i do not care. i refuse to let the left determine how i react and feel. i will not abandon reason and truth to appease a temporary yet fleeting emotional

There is no such thing as legitimate rape. Please explain to me what “biology” makes it so. I’m conservative but I don’t follow like a sheep either. That is completely offensive to me.

I would like people to understand that the ravings of a few old baboons is not representative of the GOP or Conservatives as a whole.

We Conservatives, Tea Partiers, GOPers, respect the rights of women with regards to Birth Control. With Generics available for $9/mo is it even easier for women to prevent unwanted pregnancy. If she does not wish to become pregnant, the consenting couple (yes, it does take a man to get pregnant most times) has options that are cheap and effective.

We also hold in the highest regard, the sanctity of human life in and out of the womb. We do NOT object to abortion in the case of rape, incest, horrific deformity/mental retardation, but we do object to aborting healthy children just because someone was too lazy to use cheap and reliable birth control. Human life is disposable like a lunch baggie.

So please, don’t judge the majority of us conservatives based on the rantings of those who should have retired long, long ago.

Instead of jumping on the bandwagon to punish them for saying something that is scientifically and statistically correct why not correct the left’s emotional manipulation of their statements. Neither one of the republicans in question voiced any support for rapists or disdain for victims of rape, in response to a gotcha question (Akin) they stated their CORRECT understanding of the biological science and statistics of rape and pregnancy.
I agree that conservatives need to get smarter about how they answer emotionally charged questions but you are helping the liberals by assisting their dishonest manipulations…instead of being offended that these conservative men actually understand the statistics, why not ask democrats why they work so hard to keep rapists, pedophiles, criminals in general on the streets .

OK So what we have here is a scientist ( a doctor..medicine is a science) who is explaining a scientific if inconvenient fact in scientific terms.
So, where is the left with their “this is settled science and you’re an idiot if you can’t just accept it” line?

  • Michael Hampton

Embrace the morons in your party republicans. So you caused a fake financial crisis to try and steal the election. That backfired. You tried to enrage the religious right and appeal to their bigotry and that backfired. You tried to exclude women and minorities from your party and found out that without them, you will never win another election. So why shouldn’t this idiot keep spouting lies and half truths? Why shouldn’t he keep pressing the issue that rape is a blessing from God?

    • dmbatten

Boy are you deluded. Had enough Kool-Aid already?

That’s not even remotely what either one of them said, but then if logic and science have anything to do with the discussion you libs can’t take part can you?

  • Justin Case

Wow! I rest my case. The bell tolls for thee Republicans if you don’t purge the religious social conservative wing.

  • TocksNedlog

Okay, let’s get down to the brass tacks:
It is probably true that, statistically speaking, a woman is less likely to become pregnant as a result of rape compared to when she engages in consensual unprotected sex.

    So what?

  • grais

Well, as long as the rape occurs a day before the woman is due to ovulate….
    *eyeroll*

I gotta hope this doctor’s comment was misconstrued.

Or are he and Akin competing for the Stupidest Statement Award?

  • vino veritas

No argument with the sentiment that Akin’s comments were stupid, inaccurate and foolish or that it is even more foolish to be rehashing it for the media vultures via ridiculous attempts to defend it. However, it is wrong for anyone (including Tammy Bruce & Twitchy) to scream at politicians (use of vulgar internet acronyms withstanding) while telling them they should never discuss the subject of rape. Do you both stand for and defend the First Amendment or not? Can’t pick and choose who, when & how to defend it simply by whether you like or dislike those who are attempting to deliberate on a issue or by what they have to say. In addition, how would legislation concerning rape ever get created/passed if politicians did or could not actually discuss the subject?

  • michael s

Gingrey better hope Karen hughes doesn’t find him.
