Drudge’s main headline has Romney up by seven points over Obama, but it’s not clear where these numbers are coming from. The headline link is to an AP article that summarizes the buildup to the final Romney-Obama face-off; the article makes no mention of any polling from this evening.

Does Matt Drudge know something the rest of us don’t?

Time will tell …

Drudge seems pretty excitable tonight. In a matter of minutes, the numbers in his headlines have changed dramatically. We were only able to get a couple of screen grabs before the headline changed:

The headline still links to the same AP article. And Twitterers are still trying to solve the mystery:

NewsBusters’ Noel Sheppard has a theory:

Several Twitterers believe Drudge is updating the popular vote numbers in real time:

One thing’s for sure:

Same here. Whew!

    “I know there’s something going on…”

“Please, please, tell me now: is there something I should know?”

    Sorry for the randomness, ladies and gentlemen; I am one stressed teenager. ;-;

I’m pretty sure he’s reporting the popular vote count as it stands right now…

I think Drudge is messing with the lefties.

We could probably harness enough energy to sustain New Jersey from the leftist heads exploding after reading this headline.

    Let Drudge have some fun.

I think it’s the popular vote count.

  • Civenti Tu Vergens

It links to the AP article that changes as actual returns come in. It’s a silly exercise if you ask me. Means nothing until someone hits 270! (And then after any recounts, God help us!)

Twitchy editors, the proper move here is to feign outrage at Drudge for his unsourced report, while snickering at lefties in a meltdown because Drudge has 100 times the reach that their pathetic sites do.

  • my preciousss!!

    gotta be optimistic, yeh?

Drudge is stressing me out; I need a beer!

It’s the popular vote as it comes in. At the start of the vote returns, it was Romney 65% Obama 35%. Now it is much closer.

Wow, Matt set the hook hard.
