Class act. Danny Amendola recently signed with the New England Patriots as a wide receiver.

Mr. Amendola is also involved in a program that helps children in need: Danny Amendola’s “Catches for Kids.”

That tweet was retweeted 15,932 times (and counting) and has been made a favorite 5,700 times. Earlier, he posted prayers for Boston.

Twitter users applaud the New England Patriot.

Indeed. Well done, Mr. Amendola. Even at times of great darkness, the light of human kindness shines through.

I’m glad to see examples like this drown out the idiocy we’ve been reading.

  • knoware

This gentleman will definitely be on my fantasy football team this season!!!

  • Heather_A

Can’t stand the New England Patriots, but props to this guy. Cause $200 for dropped passes sounds good.

  • mrobama

while it is a nice gesture with good faith.

    but 90 pass=9000 and 40 drops = 8000, from a person that just signed a 5year 31 million dollar contract..
maybe add a zero to each number and that can help with medical bills better

    • 2ifbyT

Half his new income is eaten up in taxes. Another (substantial) portion he is putting away so he has money to last after he retires. We don’t know how much he already contributes to charities, if he does at all (I’m guessing he does). So why would you rain on him and say he could do more?

    • Bemani Dog

Still more than Joe Biden contributes as a function of a proportion of his income.

    • mdtljt

How much are you donating? Cynicism in response to an unsolicited act such as this is unwarranted, extremely petty and downright tacky…

    • mrobama

me i donate nada, are you??? i live on a fixed income with a 2 yr old..

taxes eating half no i doubt that
but putting a football associated number(catch’s) (drops) when a blanket donation now would be more beneficial would be better.
and yes i expect a slam but do not care.
just pointing out a hole in the l;ogic

      • 2ifbyT

The only hole is in your logic, or lack thereof.

    • detroit19

At least he’s doing something…how about you?

  • Michael Anderson (WB)

So we’ll want him to drop passes?

  • Kevin Scott

He’s a hometown guy (Houston/The Woodlands), so I’m not surprised. Good on you, Danny. I’d love for you to have a good season filled with lots of catches but the drops won’t be so tough to swallow for Pats fans knowing the endgame is a good cause.

  • Tom Anderson

It’s so nice to see a NFLer not acting like an asshat for a change! This is the knd of thing that made kids look up to their sports heroes once upon a time. I hope he starts a trend! Lead by example.

  • Frustrated Teacher

He seems to be a good guy and is a solid WR. Here’s hoping New England is a great move for him and he catches 100 passes this season. Class act!

  • FFlintstone

This is NOT a classy move. This is a public relations stunt. A class act would cut the check now to help the victims. A class act would do it in private. He didn’t do this to help the victims, he did this to help Danny Amendola. If he cared about the victims, he would have already gotten them the money and not told anyone about it. Amendola did this so people would say how classy he is. $100 to a guy who just signed a $30 Million contract? That’s like me giving a penny to a homeless guy and issuing a press release.

    Here’s what the Bible says…..Matthew Chapter 6

1“Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.

2“So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
3“But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
4so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

5“When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full
.6“But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

7“And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.8“So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
