Awkward moments or awesomely hilarious? Or both? You be the judge:

Twitter was buzzing, while gasping for breath, over Anderson Cooper’s live interviews from The Vatican. Read and giggle madly.

No, really.

But, wait! There’s more.

And what’s with his microphone? Even that is awkward.

The giggles continue.

  • notenoughtime

Blissfully ignored the reporting from the mainstream media and tuned into the EWTN channel because knew they would get it right!

  • Fire and Adjust!

I’m frankly more amazed Anderson Cooper didn’t burst into flames upon walking into St. Peter’s Square………..

    • $23629333

Were I there – and saw him – I would make a point of staying as far away from him as possible.

      • mdtljt

Oh, hell no…I’d walk right up to him & pray he’d have the guts to ask me why I’m there or any other stupid question in his vapid head…verbally smackin’ down stoopid is sooooo much fun!!!!

    • capisce

Think the interviews and tone would be different if this were the installation of a new Imam in Mecca?

Note to Anderson Cooper – when that time comes, leave the rainbow pin at home.

    • LibLieExposer

He was already a “flamer” before he landed there.

  • $23629333

Hope David Zurawik hasn’t been watching CNN. Since the Anderson Cooper/Kathy Griffin New Year’s Eve spectacle, Zurawik has been wondering if Cooper is a “giggling clown, not a newsman.”

  • SJ’s Dad

So, OK, JFK>FCO is like what, 8 hours, NO DISTRACTIONS, and the best question AC can come up with is . . . “Whatcha doIN?”!?!?!?! . . . WOW! . . . just . . . Really?

  • Joel A. Edge

How many clones of Anderson Cooper are there? Wherever there’s news, there’s Cooper. Now he needs to find a bear in the woods.

  • Clayton Grant

The real question is; Anderson, why are you there?

    • Calcat36

Totally not appropriate for him to be there given his lifestyle choices… If thee were anytime for a bolt of lightning from the Heavens…

      • v1cious

Gotta love this board: You get offended when someone accuses you of being intolerant, but then immediately after someone will say something that’s blatantly racist or homophobic,

        • Mapache

Why is it when anyone says anything not favoring homosexuality they are accused of homophobia? Just because we do not agree with it does not mean we are afraid of it.

          • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

BINGO! We just disagree with the lifestyle… And we still have a right to do that, don’t we? Jawamax 8<{D} Oh yeah… Just disagreeing with it makes us "Bigots!"

        • Cal

          Lighten up!

  • DavidEKnight

What??? New Pope??? I’m here cuz I heard they got good Italian food.

  • DavidKramer

The in depth and important news of today, brought to you by MiniTru, where everything you get is first sanctioned and approved by the state………….We are CNN.

  • DavidKramer

I guess that new CNN head is really turning things around huh? Well, at least they are not having fake scenery in War zones anymore. So they are slightly better than the Daily Kos.

  • Mike Faber

Anderson can bursts into flames about the same time every pedophile priest does which is never because religion is all bull.

    • Iacobus

My spiritual brethren suffered and died (sometimes in horrible ways) simply because they believed. My spiritual brethren continue to suffer and die because they believe.

I love it when peeps go on tears about “organized religion,” since by that definition the first Christians of Rome were organized (*way* before the Church was even known as, “Catholic”). G-d only knows what they went through just to share and celebrate the faith.

    • Calcat36

Tell that to a mooslim in a mosk. (Spelled incorrectly on purpose) Are you on arab sites spreading your tolerance and diversity?

      • v1cious

What is this hard-on you guys have for Muslims? The media don’t talk about Buddhists or Hindis either, yet you guys are obsessed with these particular people.

        • Justin Jurek

Jihad has a way of making people do that :)

        • Secede

Haven’t seen any Hindus crashing planes into buildings here- Or Buddhists chopping off people’s heads on TV.

    • RightThinking1

As a matter of curiosity, exactly which religion(s) believes that people will under any circumstance spontaneously combust?

Suggestions here that such might occur are just rhetorical flourishes.

    • Diane Stephan

Yeah, cause we all know that only religious people are pedophiles, right? Idiot.

  • stillinthe60s

CNN….is that the Croatian National News network? My retort to Andy Coop.

    • dukem1

      Andii Kupp.

  • Mike Faber

It kind of looks like he really wants to ask, “Why Are we all wasting our time here, really?”

    • Iacobus

      You jelly?

(It’s fairly obvious that you don’t like religion; you’ve made that clear. Just wondering why because you obviously care enough to troll.)

      • $23629333

If you click on Mike’s avatar, you’ll discover that – somehow – the election of a new Pope prompted Mike to join us for the first time this afternoon. Apparently, he was all-a-twitter, and was looking for some place to be clever.

        • 3seven77

Too bad he didn’t find it.

        • Secede

Nah- he’s just the usual troll that keeps changing his avatar everytime he gets banned.

      • Mike Faber

Trolling is ment to stir people for a negative gain. That’s not my intention. But when I hear “We have a new pope.” I feel obliged to speak because someone feels the need to speak for me. “We” don’t have anything. YOU may. I fact a billion of you may have a new pope. So congratulations. But are you going to hold this pope accountable to The rampant sexual abuse and cover up in the Carholic Church. That’s what I was merely trying to articulate. Why in earth would people want to worship a human being that was made infallible by winning a mere popular vote. Barack Obama did that twice and a lot of people still think he’s from Kenya. Just saying.

        • Iacobus

“Rampant”? Define, please. Last I heard, it was like less than 2% compared to the total number. I don’t call that, “rampant.” A problem, yes, but not, “rampant.”

I don’t worship the Pope, much how like I don’t worship Mary, the mother of Christ (contrary to popular belief of Catholics). They all have their place in the grand scheme of things. Obviously, as we’ve already seen from Francis I, the Pope knows this.

        • Calcat36

Hey dbag… Go to mecca and say that there is no allah. I dare you tough guy. And while you are at it, be wearing a moe-hammered t-shirt! And MEN don’t type your last 2 words, kids do. Are you blasting Protestant ministers for raping troubled wives in their flocks? Are you blasting mooslims for honor killing women they consider as property? You are only picking on, and in your leftist terminology, trying to BULLY a group you know will not put a jihad on your worthless arse.

        • Justin Jurek

What’s the Carholic Church? Is that the liberal one the good folks at the National Schismatic Reporter are trying to create?

        • aliwilcox

You are missing the point that the cardinals spend time in prayer, asking for discernment to elect the one that God chooses to be His rock. Whether you believe it or not doesn’t matter. It matters to the faithful.

    • Fernandida

      • Mike Faber

Recognizing that “We” includes me and every non believer, I find it bigoted that people assume and use the Royal We. So if “we is to bbe used. I will be heard.

        • grais

But the “we” Doesn’t include you (or me). Get over yourself.

          • Calcat36

The “we” you refer to is the chipmunk in your pocket, or the gerbil in your… You don’t believe. Good for you, now shut up before you get the Anderson Cooper Egyptian treatment. Bet you deeply believe in global warming. Or global cooling. Or climate change though… You, dear confused one have the right to speak/write. You do NOT have the right to be heard/read. Keep crushing on your boy…

          • grais

    • RightThinking1

In Cooper’s case, it is because HE is being paid. Why are you here?

  • Guest

My comment got deleted! You wusses.

    • 3seven77

No, actually your comment is right there. Otherwise how could I “reply” to it?

      • Calcat36

Guest got deleted huh? Must’ve been hate speech.

  • redrooster8

Anderson Cooper is an alien from another planet… looks like one, talks like one, asks questions like one

    • Secede

Yet Stephen King has a huge Man-crush on him ( read “The Dome”)

  • grais

    “Is the Pope Catholic?”

  • kateorjane

Why do networks send talking heads who apparently are not Catholic , know nothing about the RCC and have disdain for the church’s positions, to report on the selection of the new Pope?

    • dukem1

They gotta send someone who’s on the payroll, and that’s all they got.

  • Andy Rigo

Perhaps Anderson was asking a deeper, Ontological question on the nature of existence — why are we here? Bwah hah hah haaa hah… Whew, I crack myself up sometimes.

    • RightThinking1

Or perhaps (in Cooper’s case) the more existentialist question,”Why am I here?”

  • Calcat36

Andy was safe. There were no Egyptians to “garden variety slap” the moonbat crap out of him. Imagine him asking that crap at mecca during the raj, gaj, or whatever those terrorists call it.

    • dukem1

Now THAT is something worth imagining.

  • Axelgreaser

ANDERSON COOPER LIKE MOST LIBERALS, especially one who behaves as hedonistically as Cooper, engaging (haha, so funny) in ‘simulated fellatio’ live on worldwide television along with his gross, disrespectful annual New Years Eve sidekick whom herself has casually tossed out in public: “Fuck you Jesus!” would be bewildered by anyones motives behind changing travel plans to see a new Pope and to experience the pleasure of receiving his comforting greeting: ‘buona sera.” Anyone who swims with this blasphemous ‘comedienne’ wouldn’t understand why someone would want to change travel plans to be in Rome, standing in St Peter’s Square in the cold and rain of the Vatican in the crush of thousands awaiting the announcement of a new Pope. Cooper who is willing to buddy up with a lame comic to perhaps add a modicum of excitement to his innate blandness, so unsuitable for hosting an annual NYE event, wouldn’t get the strong desire of the faithful to be near Pope Francis on the day of his first appearing to the world. However, Cooper could likely explain in full detail the wretched behavior of his party (we assume ‘his party’) when they denied God on the floor of the DNC convention in Charlotte, NC and why his network paid no mind of one of the most grotesque behaviours I’ve ever seen on television in my life.

    • aliwilcox

      Well said.

Instead of anderson cooper asking the people why are you here, he should ask himself; WHY AM I HERE/ I’M GAY. I DON’T BELONG HERE.

  • $1014973

Because it’s half off Tuesday at the Vatican gift shop?

  • no good deed

“Why are you here?” Hmmm, maybe he was asking existentially. Oh, who am I kidding. THIS is CNN.

  • notenoughtime

The question is why was Anderson there?! My 15 year old could have reported and interviewed better that the CNN professional.

  • disqus_BktOMwqkBg

I loved the scrolling new feed while waiting for the pope to be announce. “Man in the crowd tells CNN’S ANDERSON COOPER that he wants a pope who can restore his faith.” Talk about newsheads inserting themselves into the story.

  • akaf

I had to watch AC tonight. Fortunately it was for a good reason. My two boys, 6 and 7, came home from baseball practice and wanted to watch the news about the new Pope. Only news channel reporting at the time was AC so I watched with some delight. AC did a better job tonight.

  • Smokey Behr

I thought that AC was looking for that gay bathhouse all his friends told him about called “Square Peters”, but he ended up at St Peter’s Square.

    • aliwilcox

  • RushLpig

Oh look, the gay haters come out to play on

    • aliwilcox

Hey Rush, what happened to your sense of humor? Was Anderson really asking insightful or probing (pun not intended, I swear) questions? Or do you think it’s only funny when comedians post lines like “wouldn’t it be funny if the new pope had a heart attack?”

    • FlatFoot

Yeah. Hits too close to home for you, eh? Well — bless your little heart.

      How’s tricks at Wonkette, btw?

  • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

    Hey you MSM LibTurds!…They were there to: 1)see History being made, as a new Pope is Elected; and, 2)Wave their National Flag(S) in support of the New Pope. Fox News had the best coverage, by far… Jawamax 8<{D}

  • Grumpa Grumpus

I don’t understand why the purpose behind his statement is unclear to some twitting.

He’s glad they’re there b/c he can write-off the trip the news service paid for, b/c the interviews make it a business trip (he did interview people, after all…).

  • Roto

CNN only cared about how “progressive” the new Pope will be…

  • aliwilcox

This is Twitchy snark at it’s finest. I love this site.

  • Jeffrey Olah

why was Sheppard Smith in Rome…he’s not catholic and he sees people that are against same sex marriage on the wrong side of history?
