It has been few months since Twitchy wrote about actress Ellen Barkin. We figured she settled down after the election, content in the knowledge that her blessed Barack Obama beat back us “right wing fuckin morons.”

But she’s back, this time complaining about a legislative proposal in New Hampshire to reform the state’s domestic abuse laws.

In truth, the bill would not require police to witness abuse in order to make an arrest, as Barkin asserted. Rather, it would require the victim to file a complaint. The sponsor, State Rep. Dan Itse, hopes the bill will discourage false domestic abuse complaints:

“It gives the accused something to act against … If a domestic violence complaint is lodged and it turns out to be a false complaint, then lodging the false complaint is itself a crime. This allows for somebody to defend themselves if somebody’s using the domestic violence laws inappropriately.”

Yes, Barkin mischaracterized the bill. We know, you’re shocked. (Not.)

Reasonable people can debate the bill’s merits, of course. But to compare it to stonings is ridiculous. It also minimizes the horror of real stonings, which continue to occur with alarming frequency in the Islamic world.

But Barkin wasn’t done. She joked that Republican lawmakers will soon be giving out free “automatic weapons” to those who carry out honor killings:

And she suggested that Republicans are too ignorant to understand references to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter and may as well introduce legislation requiring domestic abuse victims to wear a shirt reading “You asked for it, bitch.”

Given all of the false accusations, I can understand the NH GOP’s proposal.

    • Jack_H

I concur. Having once been on the receiving end of a false accusation, it cost a great deal of money to clear myself. What happened to the accuser? Absolutely nothing! The legal system endorses lies in these matters. They don’t ask for evidence or justification.

  • Randi Starr

Reading comprehension and intelligent thought process isn’t her strong point.

    • TocksNedlog

She needs cue cards when she tweets.
      Or a teleprompter.

  • J OB

Does anyone really care about Ellen Barkin? Isn’t she an uneducated, out of work actress? In fact, isn’t that the norm for supporters of these wacko lefty positions: uneducated actors and actresses? Who cares about these yo-yos… Except to laugh at them on Twitchy (which is fun)?

    • TocksNedlog

      She tweets, we laugh.
      And the best part?
We get entertained for free, while she gets paid nothing for doing the work of entertaining us.

  • Jav

I agree with the proposed NH Bill, there are too many false complaints that have ruined a mans life, career. A false complaint no matter if there is no signs of physical abuse can be reported and investigated, Costing the tax payer thousands of dollars if not millions for a false allegation made because of hormonal imbalance!!

    • annoyinglittletwerp

‘hormonal Imbalance’? Believe or not, not every woman acts goofy during that time of the month. Sometimes a woman-just like a guy-is just a bad egg.

    • TocksNedlog

You might be better off NOT trying to guess the reasons why false accusations are made.

  • Gloves Donahue, Jr.

Barkin’s last divorce cost her ex-husband 20 million dollars.
    He considered it a bargain.

  • mary

How much lip silicone does she have? Obviously too much. It’s migrating.

    • TocksNedlog

She has collagen cheese for brains.

  • Red Fred

Ah, c’mon, let’s don’t be so hard on Ellen. She was born with extraordinary beauty, and because of that she has achieved wealth and a degree of fame. (Just never had to do much, you know, “thinking!”)

    • $23629333

“(E)xtraordinary beauty”? I thought we’re talking about Ellen Barkin.

      • Red Fred

  • MissyT111

Gee…..Barkin tweeting anything about Menenedez and his underage activities? Oh no….that’s right, she’s just a useful Idi*t.

  • Keith W

Ellen Barkin hit me! OK, go arrest her.

  • TugboatPhil

Ellen, there will be no automatic weapons given away in the US. They’re illegal here. To get one you need to go to Mexico and President Obama will send you as many as you want. Then you can skip the domestic violence and kill a group of teenagers at a birthday party or a US Border Patrol Agent.

    • [email protected]

actually you can have automatic weapons . GHW Bush only outlaw production for domestic use. You can spend about $20 k on a rifle after the ATF goes through every orifice then pay $200 for the tax stamp and its yours

  • Steve_J

She does seem kind of oblivious.

  • RadicalRebelWhoMeToo

@EllenBarkin -FREE “Automatic” Weapons??? AWESOME!! Do I get mine from Holder or should I just go straight to 0bama???

  • Christian Fenico

As a cop I can’t tell you how many times men were falsely arrested for domestic violence. They have an argument with their woman/wife/girlfriend then leave the house. The woman scratches herself up or intentionally bruises herself and calls us to report an assault. The guy gets arrested not even knowing what the hell happened. Ellen Barkin should get a reality clue and worry more about picking up her aging face off the floor.

    • grais

Yep. I even know a woman who was falsely accused. Evidently, since she makes so many herself, Ellen doesn’t think there should be any recourse against or protection from false accusations.

  • grais

“…big “A’s” (sic) on their sleeves again??”
    “They wouldn’t understand the meaning??”
Well, I see two ignoramuses who need to read the story.

  • Blake Waymire

Persecution of men via false arrests is apparently just a small price to pay to keep women safe from horrible, evil men.

    • bonnieblue2A

Domestic violence goes both ways; women are perpatrators of it too. Requiring the victim to file a complaint will go a long way toward prosecuting those who file false complaints. Likely the fear is that victims will feel too intimidated by their aggressor in a domestic relationship to file that complaint for fear of further violent reprisals.

Domestic violence is a no win situation and restraining orders are not worth the paper they are written upon. Victims need to not only get the heck out but exercise their basic human right of self-defense under the 2nd Amendment. Frankly, parents need to better educate their children as to what comprises a healthy relationship vs. an abusive relationship. With more than 50% of marriages ending in diviorce and single parenthood being a “norm” I see this as unlikely at best.

  • Sandy Wickham

Face like an old trout !

  • Dennis E. Amnott

She sounds very much like another pissed off “actor” who has seen the remnants of a marginally successful career kicked in the ass, and mostly ignored, much like the rest of her fucking moron hollyweird people. Oh well ” don’t let the door hit you in the ass”. It’s good to be a NH Republican!

  • annoyinglittletwerp

While my husband was dating my predecessor(she was just his girlfriend though, I’m his only wife)she falsely accused him of DA. She used to brag that she could do whatever she wanted because she was a woman, and that the police would ALWAYS believe the woman. One time she actually got him thrown in jail for a night…despite there being ZERO evidence of abuse. The charges were later dropped. It was all about the control with her. Good on NH for working to put a stop to false accusations of DA.

  • aliwilcox

Before I comment on a person, I check them out, so I don’t make any false accusations or misinterpret–that appears to be something Barkin is incapable of. She did graduate from Hunter college and double majored in history and acting. However, she took acting lessons for 10 years before she even got her first audition. Seems to me she might have started acting sooner if she auditioned for the taming of the shrew. She is a pugnacious scold who can’t make a marriage work. She should speak less and listen more.

  • Paula_Alquist

Good grief! Ellen Barkin is more rabid than Old Yeller.

    • RightThinking1

      Yeah….., but not as attractive.
Sorry, someone had to say it.

  • TocksNedlog

Can she be prosecuted for falsely claiming that the legislation says something other than what it really says?

  • William Carey

Barkin is a classic ‘everybody knows’ liberal. No need to have any thought behind her BS, no disagreement allowed. If you disagree you should be silenced and shamed.

  • lazypadawan

Not only is there an issue of false dv claims, even if there is dv happening many of those reporting it end up recanting and then they refuse to cooperate with authorities. If your victim decides to bail out on the prelim or trial, under NH’s law you can still have the police appear as first hand witnesses. Abuse is an odd, complicated thing. In some cases, it’s mutual combat, where both parties are engaged in violence. In some cases, the abused person will do everything he or she can to anger the abuser, knowing full well what’s coming. Every abused person ultimately blames him/herself and believes s/he deserves the beatings, even if s/he never fights his/her abuser or tries everything not to set the abuser off. After the abuse, there’s the honeymoon/make-up period where the abused person starts to think she’s got Mr. Wonderful and she truly loves him after all (*cough*Rihanna*cough*). Abused men don’t want to look like wimps. There are other kinds of dv as well: parents beating children, teen or adult children beating parents or siblings, elder abuse, etc.. It’s not just a woman issue.

  • goldwater89

I’m sorry, but this bill is absurd. Another piece of ammo the Left will use to say that Republicans are fighting a war on women.

    *Face palm*

  • Mark James

I wouldn’t give this grotesque pig any ink at all. She’s saying this nonsense just to be noticed. She’s a has been who looks like her face has been ironed.

  • lshamber

I live in NH and have met Rep. Itse several times. If he puts his name on legislation, you can be assured that it is fair and reasonable. However, this bill probably won’t pass because, although the Senate is still (R) majority, the House is (D) majority now – thanks to low info Obama supporters – and the lobbyists for the women’s groups, who spend all day every day there on our dime, will make sure it never passes. It would have had a better chance during the last session when the R’s controlled both House and Senate. Also, who cares about what this woman thinks? Why do we even mention her?

  • Maxx

The only thing more revolting than Ellen Barkin’s ever-so-predictable idiocy is the realization that somewhere, there exists a man who wants to be near it.

  • RightThinking1

Tweets by Barkin are always a light moment. I actually cheer up, knowing that something darkly amusing is about be said.

  • RightThinking1

Hey! Maybe someone can fix Jim Carey and Barkin up for a date.

  • Cynthia Peterson McCarthy

Perhaps Ms Barkin should take off her LIBERAL LENSES and look at issues for what they are. The most vehemently vocal people out there are on one side or the other. Human rights issues effect all and must be a-political. The feminist movement did more damage than good, as it didn’t break open the box women were in, it just traded one box for another….the raging competition between women carried on, and those tenets and perceptions permeated the other areas of human rights in the same way.
I also urge those people commenting to keep the remarks aimed at the issues and not those who support them. The vuglarity and profanities deflate your opinion by 99%.

  • Tanille

It’s always been that way in Michigan. They can’t just come in and arrest someone because of supposed domestic abuse. The abused must file complaint first. What is wrong with that? Otherwise women, or men, could call the police on someone even if there was no abuse. And the police would have to take them. It’s common sense. But then again she is a liberal. Common sense isn’t something that comes natural to them.

  • trixiewoobeans

There she goes, “barkin'” up the wrong tree again! A permanent victim of Mad Cow Disease.

  • G.

“Ellen Barkin likens NH Republican’s domestic violence bill to stonings” and judging by ol’ EBs appearance, apparently was subjected to several…..

  • madian_kikyou

I doubt ellen barking(misspelling intentinal) has even READ the Scarlet letter.
