Amid the devastation and destruction in tornado-ravaged Moore, Oklahoma, are symbols of hope, resilience and strength of spirit.

This American flag was reportedly raised after it was found buried in the rubble.

God bless America and God bless Oklahoma.

Now you know why I live here.

I keep saying I’m going to bed but I’m having a hard time falling asleep. I noticed your comments yesterday. Just wanted to say that, despite any political differences, I’m glad to hear you are OK. I grew up in Missouri and moved here about four years ago but I have come to love Oklahoma and I consider it my home.

Keep safe and well. We may disagree on politics but, contrary to popular opinion (around here), this lefty loves the hell out of his country and am having trouble choking back tears at this post.

It really is time for bed. Back to it tomorrow. Hope this finds you well.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of The United States of America, and to The Republic for which it stands, One Nation Under God, INDIVISIBLE, with LIBERTY & JUSTICE for All.

Why would some idiot downvote this?

      • reshas1

It was probably Lizz Winstead from the Daily Show…

      • reshas1

No no no, it was probably Moochelle….

      • CatHerder

Most likely some atheist offended by the word God.

      • Hiraghm

I downvoted it because of the all-caps on “INDIVISIBLE”. To proclaim the U.S. “indivisible” is to spit up the Declaration of Independence.

      • radicallyalyssa

Some people hate freedom, yet they love the ability to say whatever they want thanks to the First Amendment. Hypocrites

…gave proof through the night that our flag WAS STILL THERE!

    • Marian Paul

Again I ask why would some loser downvote this?

      • TugboatPhil

Their paycheck at Media Matters requires them to down vote everything here.

Your answer can be found within your question…because they are a loser…

I spent my Army years in Lawton, Okla and I never saw anything close to this. God Bless those folks and their efforts in the days to come. Oklahoma is OK!

I moved here from Missouri about four years ago. I have made this place my home. I have seen some tornadoes and flooding but I have never seen anything like this. I work as an independent contractor in oil and gas and I am fortunate that I can take the time off work to help out right now. My roommate and I have taken in two families for now.

It’s awful. This is one of those moments when I absolutely hate our current political system. Bitching and moaning and trying to score political points. I’ve never seen destruction like this. I am to the left of a lot of people that I live nearby but this has been a reminder of how little that matters.

Good night – I think we’ve wrangled before over politics but I appreciate your comments. I have been able to make a new home in Oklahoma. I am fortunate to have a roof over my head and to be in a position to give something back to the community which has been so good to me. Thanks again for your kind words.

The strength and resiliency of Americans. This is why I believe that despite the fight we are in for the soul of our country, I believe that we will prevail.

Being able to stand tall and strong in the face of destruction against all odds, believing that we will rebuild and live to fight another day is what makes America America.

My momma was born in Oklahoma, my daddy in Missouri and me in Kansas.
    Great people in all.
G-d please comfort our good neighbors in Oklahoma.

    • Sons Thunder

Our house is pretty full right now, @KansasGirl:disqus but we can probably make some room for you if you want to come and help out with the recovery. God is only able to provide comfort for our neighbors when we allow Him to act through us.

    “The Salt Of The Earth”

The Last pic of the Oklahoma State flag> The flag was wraped up in a tree and 2 Volunteer Firefighters from the Newalla Fire Dept, Lt. Chris Peeples and FF Shane Smith, raised the flag after searching through rubble during Search and Rescue Mission. We are Oklahoma, from the rubble we will rebuild becuase we ARE Oklahoma Proud. Oklahoma stands strong!
