The Associated Press has expanded its story on the IRS “inappropriately flagging” about 75 conservative groups for additional review. Evidently there’s nothing to see here. The bullying of Tea Party organizations wasn’t “motivated by political bias” or anything like that.

[Lois Lerner, head of the division that oversees tax-exempt groups] said the practice was initiated by low-level workers in Cincinnati and was not motivated by political bias. After her talk, she told The AP that no high level IRS officials knew about the practice. She did not say when they found out.

See, these unnamed “low-level workers” just thought words like “tea party” and “patriot” were awfully suspicious. Bias? What bias, you wingnutty wingnuts?

OK, let’s pretend that’s not a load of crap. What exactly was the motivation for targeting conservative groups?

How long until we hear the ol’ YouTube video excuse? Looks like the IRS is hoping this will just blow over.

Did the IRS spokesperson say it with a trembling lip and puppy-dog eyes?

When all else fails, blame math:

  • Clayton Grant

If the groups weren’t targeted because of political bias, I can assume MMFA was also audited … right? (wink wink nudge nudge)

    • OLLPOH

for sure. they have to keep us all sweating…

    • Seriously?

OFA? How about OFA? ThinkProgress? Yeah, nope.

      • BigTBoom

Those were processed in the same office, where everyone knows THOSE groups are rubber stamp approvals, no questions asked!

    • DavidKramer

I am sure they can point to all the audits on the the Occupy folks, just give them time until they can say……..that was a long time ago.

  • Cy

In other news, the government is really, really desperate to distract people from Benghazi.

    • CHHR

and they’ll do anything they can to never have Extortion 17 see the light of day either… but you have to admit, this is a really, really bad diversion to push out there… target, by definition is biased.

    • Ben Bollman

I wonder how long before a cat having kittens will become national news.

  • Seriously?

Unintentionally hilarious. IRS spox “I’m not good at math.”

    • mdtljt

Right?!?! If you’re “…not good at math.” why the hell do you work at the IRS???? Oh…wait…he just SPEAKS (out of his arse) for the IRS…silly me…

  • Fire and Adjust!

Sure………and the targeting of black individuals wouldn’t have been concidered racist and wouldn’t have invoked the unending wrath of the NAACP, or the targeting of females wouldn’t have been concidered msiogyny and woldn’t have invoked the wrath of NOW…………
It was all just an innocent mistake of national policy attacking ONLY conservative organizations……….. nothing to see here plebians……..move along and pay your taxes………….

  • AaronHarrisinAlaska

Actually I’m quite willing to accept part of this story. I’m willing to believe that the IRS as a whole was not motivated by politics, but as a single entity made up of individuals with varying degrees of power and reach I am unwilling to accept that this was not personally politically motivated by several or many individuals at varies levels of the org.

    • HannahJK

Or some outside high level political operatives were in cahoots with low level individuals, i.e. plants. It doesn’t sound like they have any procedures to prevent that!
They need to track down the low level people and find out exactly what their connections are.

  • grais

What Did motivate it? And how do you “correct” what you’ve already done?

Another journey of Hope and Change the subject…

    • Clayton Grant

Hope and Change the subject – That’s excellent!

    • Pam

      Very Nice!!

  • Neil Leininger

If I was an upper level staffer at the IRS I would be looking over my shoulder for the oncoming buses.

  • Tucker Latham

I picked a bad day to stop drinking. The headlines today are conspiring to detonate my brain.

    • Guest

“Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.” – Lloyd Bridges in Airplane

      • Tucker Latham

That was exactly the reference. 😉

        • Jack

like when they asked Obumma what he made of the whistleblower coming forward…” I can make a hat, a broche, a pterodactyl!!

  • Jd1367

“Not motivated by political bias” is the equivalent of blaming Benghazi on a YouTube video

  • Roger Bournival

Speaking from experience, it is common for desk & field auditors to come up with audit cases stemming from the desire to concentrate / target specific industries. For example, I had an IRS collection agent tell me that doctors & lawyers are often audited due to ‘historically high levels of non-compliance’. I don’t have much (emphasis on ‘much’) of a problem with staff auditors developing audit leads. The real question here – why did management, especially at the director level, approve of obvious politically oriented audits?

    • alanstorm

      Conservatism is not an industry.

    • Clayton Grant

Also, why did the IRS request donor lists, which is a direct violation of guidelines?

      • Jack

I think one of them heard the abbreviation con…and figured they were all ex con’s, hence criminals…if they are bad at math, probably not good at English either.

  • Jack Deth

Look no further than Valerie Jarrett. This has all the fingerprints of a Chicago spin on the tried and true method developed decades ago by LBJ. For keeping opposition on the ropes and tied up with accountants and lawyers.

“Nothing to see here, people….. Move along!”

  • Brandon Goeringer

Things like this will be coming to the surface more and more, and for years after. This admin will be exposed for being THE most corrupt admin in history.

    • Ronald Green

No, that would still fall on the U. S. Grant administration… but That was a long time ago.

      • CatHerder

        Quality vs quantity.

  • Gallatin

Didn’t Hillary make the same excuse for Benghazi? Low level workers at State denied security requests so they never reached her.

So I guess my only question is does anyone at a high level in the obowmao admistration know what is going on? And if the low level workers are making the decisions what is the point of the high level workers?

    • Brian H (wackobird)

I think they need to pick a good time to quit smoking crack……

  • anjullyn

IRS = Part of Oblamers Thug Machine

  • Thomas Collins

Just one more reason to get rid of these thieves.

  • Squirrel!

Some low level employees who happen to belong to ACORN? So they’ll be looking into OFA next, right?

  • ObamaFail

Did they do this to any of those leftist occupiers? Or any other left-wing group? No? Then it was purely for political reasons.

  • FreedomFighter

This is what tyranny looks like….. without the apology.

  • Dane Gunderson

IRS: Our partisan attacks were not based on any political bias but on a list of who will actually get ObamaCare coverage and who will get dumped in the streets like Hospital administrator Michelle Obama used to do…

  • HannahJK

Initiated by low level workers in Ohio…. hmmm, isn’t that the ultimate swing state? Wouldn’t something like this require higher level approval?

  • TheMandarin

Funny too how the sequester never really seemed to impact the good souls down at the IRS….just kidding, they aren’t good souls…they suck balls.

  • $35072932

Sure, that is about as believable as the one about the protest in Benghazi….

  • Wiki David

NEWS! Low level IRS workers can initiate additional investigation on anyone at anytime without any officials knowing in advance. Really? How stupid are IRS officials? Sorry, sorry, sorry. I will punish myself for that one. What… let’s say 10 mins of CNN?

  • DavidKramer

I am sure they can point to all the audits on the the Occupy folks, just give them time until they can say………..that was a long time ago.

  • yourmamatoo

    Sure they targeted them.
And now they have some explaining to do.
And they are doing the Obama dance, blaming someone else.

  • CO2 Producer

Still looking to collect the king’s taxes from the Tea Act of 1773, were they?

  • aztectrumpet

The fact that it was perpetrated by low level people makes it even more obvious it was political imo.

  • $35072932

I’ve got to say that the Benghazi Scandal and cover-up must be so damaging to the Dear Liar that the Regime is willing to try and deflect attention from it with this IRS scandal.

  • john mason

WHY are they bringing this up now? Who was still asking them and expecting a true answer? NObody, that’s who. If they really are ‘sorry’ then prove it, by at the very least refunding any loss of income or overhead expense suffered by the Tea Party groups because of those phony baloney punishment audits. OR publically firing a wholw buncha Apparchiks, Moles, Boll Weivils, Snakes,

  • Kathy Fugitt Price Skaggs

I would say that they are admitting it now because they have someone who has proof has said they were going to go public.

  • Canadian in USA
  • Randall Jett

What’s the big deal? This happened a long time ago!

    • Sharkteeth

bbububububububu It’s a big freaking deal. that’s the stuff that lawless dictators do.

  • InformNow

And they wonder why there is always an uproar whenever the dolts in government look to end run around the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms!

Remember, these same a s s holes from the IRS are going to be in charge of Obamacare! AND Obama said he was “going to make government cool again”… First, ‘AGAIN’?! Second, this novice, amateur hour, Harvard faculty lounge Santy Claus wannabe and his minions have done more to increase the level of people’s mistrust and hatred of the lying, deceitful excrement politicians and bureaucrats in Washington then at any other time since the Civil War!

  • People Corporation

It’s an unspoken instruction. No proof it was ordered, and it probably wasn’t. But the cult members of the democrat party “know what to do” if they want to move up the ladder, and what happens to them if they get caught by decent Americans. Plausible deniability.

  • Sharkteeth

GEEEZ are we sure the libs in power are American at all. This pisses me off worse than Benghazi.

  • bicentennialguy

Yeah, like they are REALLY sorry. I can almost feel their sincerity…apologies are a dime a dozen.

  • Liberty

Of course! I’m sure the IRS has a different theme every month: “Organizations with 4 word names” month, “Sounds Tropical” month, “Unicorns!” That month just happened to be “Tea Party” Month. Right.

  • EverybodyTalks

    Let’s try this as a personal perspective….”It’s not political but I didn’t pay my taxes…Ummm, Sorry! ”
    “You believe me, don’t you?”

  • WBee1 Proud Navy Wife

Liar Liar Hillarys pant suit on fire

  • froggy19510

This isn’t the real story the real story is look at this bright shinny thing and forget about Bengazi.

    • $8245944

This story is important, too. Just wait until the IRS starts enforcing ObamaCare regulations

      • froggy19510

I am not saying this is not important but we need to keep Bengazi on the front burner. This story was too convienient. When is the last time the Obama administration admited one of it’s agencies did anything wrong? There may be something here or it may be a smoke screen to get the press off Bengazi. I smell a rat.

        • $8245944

The IRS was being sued by the Conservative rights group the ACLJ–they had to admit to their wrongdoing. What the IRS did to Tea Party organizations was an egregious and dangerous abuse of power. This is not over. The left must be punished.

I agree with you about the timing of the disclosure and the Benghazi smokescreen, though.
          I smell two disgusting rats.

  • Jeff Vojtko

I think it is statistically impossible to NOT have political bias but only target right wing groups for review. How is that possible?

  • $8245944

  • Sharkteeth

IRS scandal makes me cross eyed mad.

  • $472942

it just gets better and better with this Regime each passing day, doesn’t it?

  • Paul C.

Throw the little guy under the bus to save my ass. Hey, hey it wasn’t us it was the little guy digging the hole.

  • AZWarrior

What did Valerie know and when did she know it. Welcome to the most corrupt administration in our lifetime.

  • SWwife

I’m waiting for the lame stream media to apologize for calling it a witch hunt and bloggers to apologize for claiming the right wing is nothing but conspiracies

    • Ben Bollman

I wouldn’t hold your breath, even when liberals are wrong they are never wrong. Somehow it will end up being our fault.

  • jb

Well, Mark Levin promised an interesting happening to occur sometime around now a couple of weeks ago on his show. I guess this was it. Can’t wait to find out more.
