On Wednesday, Yoko Ono sent a series of pro-gun control tweets featuring a photo of John Lennon’s bloodstained glasses.
This one was retweeted by the @BarackObama Twitter account.

That’s a pretty graphic message from the president of the United States.
But as White House press secretary Jay Carney insisted earlier this month, the verified @BarackObama account is run by an “independent organization” — Organizing for Action. The @BarackObama Twitter bio still proudly proclaims that “Tweets from the President are signed -bo,” and OFA continues to run the “Barack Obama” Facebook page and barackobama.com.
Independent: We do not think it means what you think it means. Kinda like “non-partisan.”
And judging by these tweets and headlines, neither do some media outlets:

While the Washington Post article linked by BuzzFeed points out that the @BarackObama account is run by Organizing for Action, the deck calls it “President Obama’s Twitter account.”

Perhaps the president should look into truly distancing himself from that completely “independent” @BarackObama account. Then again, a guy who uses children as human prop-aganda for his gun-grabbing push is probably pretty comfortable with taking credit for retweeting a photo of Lennon’s bloody glasses.
