South Carolina Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy is trending this morning after he defended the FBI and its use of a confidential informant inside the Trump campaign to gather information on potential Russian interference in the 2016 election:
Trey Gowdy is arguing on Fox News right now that the FBI acted properly when it used a confidential informant for the Trump campaign as part of the counter-intel investigation into Russia’s election interference.

Gowdy went on to say that Trump “is going to be glad we have an FBI that took seriously what they heard”:
Republican briefed on the intel last week has a MUCH different interpretation than Trump’s unsubstantiated claims of spies infiltrating his campaign. Gowdy also said when Trump finds out what happened, “He is going to be glad we have an FBI that took seriously what they heard.” https://t.co/v2HJAyYRyR

Libs, as you might imagine, are giddy. For example, Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau who was last heard from nuking his president on the kenneling of young children:
House Intel Committee Republican Trey Gowdy says absolutely not after receiving a classified briefing. You’re gonna talk about that too, right @IngrahamAngle? https://t.co/dHDf5dpYnI
— Jon Favreau (@jonfavs) May 30, 2018
And Rep. Ted Lieu who thanked Gowdy for “speaking the truth”:
Thank you Trey Gowdy for speaking the truth. https://t.co/s9sBqxNU8i

Well then, if Gowdy is “speaking the truth” then why aren’t we hearing more on this line: this “has nothing to do with Donald Trump”?
Gowdy on last week’s briefing on the FBI confidential source: "I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got — and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump.”

But he faults Schiff and others for not specifying that Trump isn’t the target of the investigation. “This had nothing to do with Donald Trump,” he said.

Trey Gowdy also said that the FBI effort had “nothing to do with Donald Trump.” Weird that people aren't mentioning it.

In other words, “spygate” has died but so has the Dem dream that the FBI CI would find something on the president.
