During a post-game sideline interview with Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman went off on San Francisco 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree while giving himself some high praise:

Sherman bragged about being the “best CB” in football:

More tweeters weighed in as, not coincidentally, #Classless is trending:

And the memes are already coming in:

Closing thought:

To be fair, Crabtree had really been running his mouth leading up to this game, and Sherman shut him down on the last play of the game to send his team to the Super Bowl. Needless to say, emotions were running a bit high at the moment.

    • adnnews1

But that was verrrry disrespectful what he did

      • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

I’ll be honest… I’ve said my share of dumb $#!% during a cathartic emotional release…

        • Ryan Cooner

Millions of people deal with people who run their mouths excessively. Millions find themselves in heightened emotional states. They can either choose to be classy about how they react to it, or they can lash out. I prefer to support those who stay classy throughout, and shame those who lash out. It’s something we all deal with, at times, and doesn’t really pass as an excuse in a grown-up world.

          • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

As we used to say in my college, “That’ll preach well…” It’s easy to talk about being in a “grown-up world” and how “we all deal with it”, but there are several big problems. How many of us faced severe odds to reach our big childhood dream at the age of 26? That’s what people forget. As easy as it is to dog Sherman for actually, you know, being human on camera, the man is just 26 years old and is on top of the world right now. The pearl-clutching over a young man expressing his intense emotional catharsis makes about as much sense as athiests’ pearl-clutching over the sight of someone praying in school.
Seriously, this is displaying a ridiculous lack of empathy. I’m not saying we try to feel for the social angst of a serial axe murderer — I’m saying we need to have a bit of understanding when someone receives their big payoff after a lot of hard work.

          • Bill_from_Virginia_Beach

Apparently you have a different idea of what maturity is…Acting like a complete idiot for any reason is not maturity…

          • MitchellSandlin

X, why do you idiots think that a person 26 years old is still a boy. At 26 he should be a man and act like one. I will be honest, I really could not understand most of what he said but I got the message from the look on Erin’s face.
Sherman is just another hood rat thug that has been spoiled all his life because he has a lot of physical talent. He is not stupid because he plays football with a lot of intelligence so being a dumbazz is no excuse.
Compare his comments and demeanor with that of Peyton Manning. Why don’t these thugs let their play do the talking. I include Crabtree in this comment as he has shown to be almost a classless as Sherman.

          • cardnut

I would have given you a thumbs up except for your comment about Crabtree. He was remarkably restrained after the game. Sherman reflects the environment that Pete Carroll fosters: cheat, play dirty, and shoot your mouth off. Go, Broncos!

          • MitchellSandlin

I hope the “Cardnut” means St. Lopuis Cardiinals. If so, Hello Brother. Been a Cardinal fan since I was 6 years old in 1955.
I was talking about Crabtree’s trash talking all week not after the game. Really dissappoionted in Crabtree. When he was at Texas Tech he did not mouth off unless it was just not reported. I have not liked his anrtics since he was drafted one bit dissappointed because he has much talent and IO think his attitude is detrimental to his game.
No respect for Carroll here. Go Broncos for sure!

          • 97E

As much as I dislike Pete Carroll and Sherman, I’ll be rooting for the Seahawks.

            Sincerely,
            Chargers fan

          • dodgergirl88

I love Pete Carroll and I will be rooting for The Seahawks.

          • pdigaudio

Of course, in an Obama World, he’s just getting off his parents’ health insurance policy at 26 so he may be considered a boy by some.

          • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

            1) I did not say he is a boy. I said he is still a young man. There is a big difference. Expecting Richard Sherman to act like Peyton Manning is a bit silly.
            2) Sherman has actually had a really rough life and football was his way out of the hood… remember, the dude is from Compton.
            3) Peyton Manning, unlike Richard Sherman, has actually won a Super Bowl before. Peyton Manning also didn’t win his game the same way that Richard Sherman did. We are comparing apples and oranges.

          • George Bara

It’s obvious that you are in love with this man so you couldn’t possibly speak out against his stupidity. He is the A typical, Full of himself NFL self centered player. With fans like you flaming his fire only sets stage for other idiots to come.
MOST players have class and intellect. Which is what this player lacks.Oh and PLEASE enough witth the hard life BS. Many of us are from the inner city so stop the Feel Sorry for me crap.
So what you say is that WE as fans shoould Allow the inner city Hood to be cut slack because of his HARD upbringing and not expect the same from the player whose parents raised him well.
Yet another excuse for the POOR inner city scum.

          • DixieAngel_76

x, I’m not trying to rain on your parade, but did you realize that the average age of American soldiers who fought in WWII was 26? They had far more ‘severe odds’ to face just staying alive for one more day, and they were fighting to save the free world with many of them paying the ultimate price, and getting far less pay for it as well. So I hope you understand if I don’t get choked up all of the angst that Sherman has to deal with. I am a nurse and probably deal with far more angst in one shift than this overgrown baby has to ‘deal with’ in a whole season, and I don’t walk around tearing peoples’ heads off.

          • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

I’m not asking you to get all choked up over him. I’m not asking for tears, I’m not asking for endorsements. ALL I’M SAYING is that the man is human, he had a human moment, and the anger of this is severely unjustified.

          • jj

The anger against what he said and did is fully justified…sherman is a classless thug…and should be treated like one…nothing would make me happier at this point than to see him carted off the field in the first qtr of the game on 2/2…not to return…then he can run his mouth all he wants…where we can’t see his garbage…

          • Mike Bojorquez

I wanna see Wes Welker take him out on the 1st play of the game – end his career and you’ll see him arrested within a year for drugs or some other crap. You can take them out of the hood but …….

          • DixieAngel_76

Well, by the looks of things, and considering the outpouring of peoples’ opinions concerning this you are definitely in the minority, thank God. And I don’t think the anger is ‘severely unjustified’. I think for all that professional athletes are paid, and the opportunities they are given, it’s not too much to ask for them to show a modicum of decent behavior, and set a better example for today’s kids who will become athletes when they’re grown. Stress, anguish or any other emotional duress are not an excuse for that kind of outburst. EVER.

          • Ryan Cooner

You use a lot of words to make excuses for others you don’t even know, don’t you? Why don’t you cut me some slack, too? After all, I’m only 49… just barely a grown-up in your mind.

          • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

In debate terms, I just won. As I said, Sherman isn’t a boy. He is a young man. Young men have areas of immaturity. That’s just fact.
Crabtree is asking for proof that Sherman is the best cover-corner in the league. Here’s your proof: Crabtree ended with 4 catches for 52 yards.

          • jj

Sherman had two balls thown his way…one he tipped…the second was a pass interference penalty…yea…he’s a legend in his own mind…and he’s not a young man…those guys overseas in Afghanistan are young men…sherman is just a plain moron…

          • Ryan Cooner

            Won? Won what, exactly?
            You’re an odd sort.

          • http://musingmaryann.wordpress.com/ Mary Ann

Going to disagree with you here – this has more to do with the way we as a society revere professional athletes and actors to the point that we allow them to over-step, over-react and over-reach because, after all, they’re rich and famous … this guy was just nothing more than unhinged.

          • nononsense57

Great,,so I guess we could expect all kinds of classless, personal nastiness from the Olympians in Sochi,,right?

          • srsanbo

It is primal, angry and simply uncivilized to react like this. Despite your tendency to misuse “cathartic” and have your own issues that make you uniquely able to relate to people acting like idiots when excited, he comes off like a barbaric psycho, because most people do not act like animals.

          • jj

You’re so right…it’s ok to act like a moron……or in your case to post like one !!!

One thing sherman will not be accused of is being a decent human being and a good sport…what a demented moron he is…

          • Timothy Crenshaw

Did anyone notice all of the Brady is the best and Peyton can’t handle the big game stories running around? Did anyone fail to see how many times more pressure Peyton was under than Sherman? Did anyone see Peyton have one of the best games of his life and LEAD his team to the Super Bowl? Did anyone see Peyton Manning’s after game interview? YES, you can hold people accountable for who they are who they choose to be. There are NO excuses for Richard Sherman.

          • Literarylioness

Right. There was not this type of stupidity in the Patriots v Broncos game at all. Sherman is just an ass who probably is going to have a career ending injury at some point.

          • Daryl Watson

At 26 I was in Vietnam doing what my country asked me to do.

          • Kristin

I am tired of people who feel it is their duty to shame the rest the world. Are you without fault? Have you never made a mistake? This is the ugly side of social media. I am not defending anyone, just tired of the society of piranha we have become, just waiting for someone to mess up.

          • Ryan Cooner

            Thanks for the laugh, Kristin!

        • jj

We can see you are still doing that below…

        • Kevin

          that doesn’t make it right.

So you admit you’re a dumb$hit – the old open mouth prove you’re an idiot – got it now !

      • Dr. Venkman

Fox was disrespectful the entire game (Pam Oliver trash-talking the 12th man, Buck and Aikmam CONSTANTLY talking-down the Hawks, etc.). It’s about time he called people on it, in the moment.

        • lauraannj322

People always talk down us wonderful Pacific Northwesters. Bout time they got it back.

            Just the liberal ones.

          • TBone Ryan

NFL corporate must be whining like crazy over Seattle being in the Super Bowl. I find it amusing that two western teams are in the East Coast Super Bowl.

          • D Scott Horton

The twelfth girl will not be at the Superbowl. How good will you feel when the rest of the country (everyone with a ticket to the Superbowl) is shouting down the Seattle signal calling, in a neutral stadium. Everybody is rooting for the Broncos and only about 2 or 3 will root for the shehawks.

          • JeffDunstan

awwwwwwwwwwwwwe ….. you want a cookie??? with some milk??? try being a patriots fan buddy

          • saucetin

            A least he’s not being passive-aggressive. #seattledefault

          • D Scott Horton

That’s not true, we just have a good idea that the She-Hawks are a bunch of loud mouths with no concept of what good sportsmanship is.

          • daddibuck

OK…loud mouths with a 15 and 3 record in 2013..I’ll take that…they can “squak” all they want off the field but watch what they do ON the field my friend…”Just WIN baby”….

        • JeffDunstan

why are you defending that garbage????

        • Bill_from_Virginia_Beach

There was a time many years ago when there was not “12th man” allowed. If the player couldn’t hear the quarterback call the signals, the QB would raise his arms…If the crowd continued the referee would penalize the home team and if it got too bad the game would be forfeited. It also used to be called illegal use of the hands for an offensive lineman to have his hands away from his body…Pretty easy calls to make, but today holding could be called on any play of the game…Not so sure change is always for the better…

        • Tyson Litz

You must have been using some of legalized herbs while watching. Buck did NOTHING BUT talk UP the ‘hawks. Every 2 yard gain was a “gain of 4″… The Anthony Dixon TD was originally called a TD, but replays that showed absolutely ZERO conclusive evidence to be overturned was overturned anyway after FOX & Buck repeatedly showed every inconclusive replay & begged for a reversal of original TD call. Joe Buck was SCREAMING with positivity on every good Seattle play. Joe Buck just plain sucks! Just look back at his God awful HBO show LOL

      • lauraannj322

Didn’t see the game, but if the 49ers were being rude to the Seahawks during the game, then they had it coming. Congrats to the Seahawks from the entire Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Western Canada!!!!!

        • crosshr

the 9ER and their fans can take any loud mouth like Sherman, The rest of the country are disgusted with such pie h.

        • Curtis Smith

Speak for yourself. I’m from Oregon and I hate the Stinkhawks.

          • 97E

I’m in Oregon, and I don’t much like the Chickenhawks either.

But I’ll take the Seahawks any day over the Denver Donkeys and Mr Peyton “Retire Already, Douchebag” Manning.

Denver fans are the only fans that approach the levels of classlessness of Oakland fans.

      • TBone Ryan

Oh well. These are big boys who can take it… perhaps more people should be watching dominoes…. the feminization of men continues…

        • linreis

real men can actually show some decorum and good sportsmanship on occasion…its not out of the range of masculinity…

          • TBone Ryan

“…. on occasion….” Must not have been that occasion! God help it if somebody says something in the heat of the moment… when most don’t even know the context.

        • MitchellSandlin

The real feminization of men in the USA is in the Hood where they are raised by Baby Mommas and do not know their daddy. That is such a shame.

The american Negro Middle Class is on life support and has been since Democrat LBJ’s Great Society took hold.

        • DixieAngel_76

Oh, thank you for enlightening me. I didn’t realize that bad bad manners and course behaviour were ‘feminine’.
By your standards, does that make Tom Brady and Peyton Manning girlie men?

          • TBone Ryan

You need a course in logic and comprehension…. Nowhere did I suggest bad manners is “feminine.” Think about it…

          • DixieAngel_76

Typical response from someone who’s been caught in the wrong, with nothing to argue your point. Go back and re-read what you wrote, and then try to talk your way out of what you meant when you complained about ‘feminizing’ men, when better men than Sherman called him on his bad manners.

          • TBone Ryan

LOL! Nice try… but I haven’t been feminized….go bully someone else…. Sorry your comprehension skills are so lacking…

          • TBone Ryan

If you had any idea… LOL! No. Try former college all american is a sport other than football and a doctorate…. But I have to say your comment is really just bizarre…

    • Matthew Koch

I gotta disagree that was a crap throw by Kap. There was almost no chance of it being complete. As it went up I said this is either gonna be incomplete or a pick. Kap got beat not Crabtree.

      • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

You really think that matters at all to Sherman? You just blocked a pass to the guy that had been taunting you for a week, and you’re going to shrug it off as the QB tossing a bad pass?

        • Matthew Koch

No, but Sherman complaining about a taunter is pretty rich. That would be like Mark McGwire complaining about someone using steroids.

If Sherman doesn’t see the irony in that then he’s a grade a moron.

          • DC is Evil

I believe you meant to say “Sherman’s a 4th grade moron”…..because that’s what he sounded like.

          • Bob Young

Grade a would imply first grade or kindergarten.

          • Bob Young

          • cardnut

And one who attended Stanford, to boot! The shame, the shame!

      • AndrewB

What game were you watching?! If Sherman didn’t get his hand on that ball, it would have been right in Crabtree’s chest. I don’t agree with Sherman’s rant, but earlier in the week Crabtree said something along the lines of “Sherman is the biggest joke in the NFL.” Sherman proved him wrong, but let the adrenalin of the situation get to him.

      • William Trefethen

Never seen so many whiny twats. This is football – they taunt each other and talk shit all game. You should all be watching women’s tennis since you enjoy wearing skirts so much. Seahawks are going to destroy Medicare recipient Manning – the guy can’t run and his receivers will never get open – Seattle 64-3!

    • Roberta Lambert

Players talk shit all the time to each other. But to talk that way to a sideline reporter (regardless of the reporter’s gender) reflects badly on the entire Seahawks organization. Total lack of discipline and humility.

      • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

With no context, I would agree with you. Based on how Sherman and Crabtree were going at it all game and the low blows Crabtree was taking before the game, however, I can’t. Sherman just had the single biggest moment of his life — he forgot to be professional… big deal. 5 minutes prior to that “interview” he made the biggest play of his entire football career against a division rival and a player who has been a thorn in his side for the last year (let alone the last week). 30 seconds previous to that “interview” he watched his team ice a victory that sent them to the freaking SUPER BOWL. So no, he wasn’t the “consummate professional” at the moment. He was, however, a very excited man who felt like he just validated all the work he has put into being a football player since college. That’s six years of hard work and dedication all paying off in a single instance. Most people will never know what it means to have a cathartic release like that… and it shows.

        • Catchance

You’re correct in what you’re saying, of course. It’s just that he made himself look like a complete ass while saying it.

          • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

There we agree. I don’t like that it happened, but I’m also not necessarily surprised that it happened.

        • scott brecht

Go watch the video of him on First Take with Skip Bayless and then come back and pretend like this was a one time thing after a big play. He has gone to the opposing sidelines to taunt players and coaches multiple times.

          • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

I’ve seen it. And I’ve seen Richard Sherman play… a lot. I also never said that this was a “one time thing.”. What I said is that the pseudo-interview was the result of a moment of intense emotional catharsis.

          • GrindingMills

Skip Bayless is an idiot and deserved that beat down handed to him by Sherman. Sherman’s a very smart guy and very emotional. I don’t see anything wrong with emotion.

          • scott brecht

What makes you think he is smart?

          • GrindingMills

Have you ever heard him speak in a less emotional interview or read his blog on MMQB?

        • danapointdad

          well said!!!!

        • Rob

hey “xristy” – one day when you grow up you will look back and regret supporting the actions of an overpaid, classless caveman. His actions, and your support of said actions, is indefensible. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence (so you may not understand these big words) can control themselves in a situation regardless of the emotion. Hopefully, you won’t commit a violent crime and blame it on emotion. By the way, Dick Sherman plays a kids’ game for a living and makes way too much money to do so. He’s never worked hard a day in his pathetic little life.

          • GrindingMills

Once you’ve done two a days in high school, woken up at 4:30am to lift and practice before class in college (Stanford no less), and then made it through an NFL training camp, then you can say that Sherman has never worked a hard day in his pathetic little life.

        • Bill_from_Virginia_Beach

I believe he acts like that on a regular basis…When I played if we were ever to act like that, we would be finished on the team…No question about it…Of course I played in a different era…In the 50s & 60s you didn’t act like that…

        • saucetin

Candidate Howard Dean did, with his Seahawks Scream™.

Sherman is notorious in running his pie h. in most game with whatever team he play. This is diarrhea of the mouth at best

        • brian

Defending Sherman makes you are moron too. He works for the SeaHawks and should act appropriately…..simple!!!!

          • mlind33

No, what xristosdomini said was simple, and logical. What you are saying is mean (calling a stranger moronic) and based on spur-of-the-moment feelings when you have no idea what Sherman and Crabtree were saying to each other. We have no context for what really happened. I did not enjoy watching it and I’m sure Sherman is going to see that and NOT feel good about it; but it WAS an emotional release after realizing a VERY REAL accomplishment.

          • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

Oh thanks, I’m a moron now. That’s it, heap on the abuse. All I’m asking is that people give Sherman credit for being human. If that’s “defending him”, so be it. He “should act appropriately” — sure. He didn’t. Big deal. He had a human reaction to the biggest moment of his life. Seriously? The outrage over this single moment is at least as bad as the concern trolling over the second amendment. At least.

          • brian

So we teach our children they can act inappropriately as long as they have just experienced a big moment in their life? The black community has come far in their quest for equality, the ignorance displayed by Sherman sets back that movement. There is no excuse, DO NOT DEFEND IT, condemn it, tell our children there is NO time appropriate to act as such and move on.

        • cardnut

Sherman has been a freaking sideshow all season, as well as last year and before. I don’t know of a single professional athlete who has exhibited such disdain for his former coach as does Sherman for Harbaugh. I think it is shameful — and I am VERY happy that he does not play on my (actually Harbaugh’s) team!

      • danapointdad

that total lack of discipline provides for some pretty amazing entertainment… these guys are entertainers, after all… kudos to sherman and the seahawks defense, they are truly playing their game and it is what got them to the superbowl… amazing game today… simply the best…

      • Flyover Al in CT

At least he didn’t knockout game her.

    • Stone Bryson

Exactly! I’ve been saying almost the exact same thing, and have been getting verbally eviscerated for it. Just want you to know someone agrees with you.

In other news, WTF was the deal with Erin Andrews? When Sherman mentioned (OK, shouted) that bit about people saying he wasn’t the best, she was like, ‘duh, who’s talking about you?’ Ms Andrews is paid (good money) to know these little tidbits about games, and the fact that she didn’t not only exacerbated the negative perception of Sherman but also made her look both uninformed and lazy.

      • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

As far as Erin Andrews was concerned, I agree wholeheartedly.
Back to topic at hand, I have to wonder why it is so unacceptable for a professional athlete to have an emotional reaction to having succeeded? For most of us, if we made “the big play” that put our rec-league softball team into the championship, it would be all we talked about for the next 18 months and the story would get bigger, badder, and more exciting every time until it sounded like a Herculean war against the gnarly-fisted gargoylic hordes… and a professional athlete isn’t allowed a moment of unfiltered emotion after punching a ticket to the SUPER BOWL?

        • Glenn Newcomb

Act like you have been there before and walk away knowing you are better instead of insisting you are. Those who toot their own horns will in time blow merely hot air.

          • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

I’m sorry, I guess I never read the book on what to do when you just confirmed your reservation to play in the most watched sporting event in the world that you’ve been fantasizing about since childhood… evidently, neither did Richard Sherman.
As I said, yes, he was unprofessional. There is a big difference between losing your cool in the heat of the moment (Sherman) and being a perpetually unprofessional individual (such as Kaepernick). Especially if you stuck around long enough to see the ACTUAL postgame interview with Sherman on the Fox Sports mobile set. He’s articulate, he was gracious, and he chuckled at himself a bit when they nudged him on his meltdown with Erin Andrews while giving out the extremely tame and saccharin “professional soundbytes” we have all come to expect from professional athletes. He had a moment of release that most of us will never understand and he lost his cool. The only guys who have the “right” to act like they have been there before (and the ability, in my opinion) are the guys who have been there before.
That said, humility is agreement with the truth. If you are the best, there is not a darn thing in the world wrong with saying you are the best. Richard Sherman is one of the best cover-corners in the league. Period.

          • Bill_from_Virginia_Beach

I wouldn’t make any bets that Richard Sherman can actually read…You my friend are making a lot of assumptions…

          • MitchellSandlin

A wise man once told me that if you are really good at what you do people will notice it and compliment you. You do not need to tell anyone how good you are.
Those people are usually peers who praise actually mean something.

          • Ed Richardson

Insisting you are the best isn’t bragging if IT’S TRUE !!

        • Stone Bryson

The funniest part about all of this? All these fans jumping on the pro-Broncos / anti-Sherman bandwagon apparently have no clue about some of things muttered by Champ Bailey over the years. The Denver Broncos’ Champ Bailey.

          I just have to chuckle…

          • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

Yeah…… one day people will have to remember that “Athletes iz ppl 2”. All of the numbnuttery and high-rolling schmuck-like behavior that is common to human beings happens to athletes too. And vice versa, for that matter.
If you took most people who have had a strongly adverse reaction to Richard Sherman’s meltdown and put them in identical circumstances/time-of-life, the odds of any of us being as professional as we would like athletes to be is minimal… at best. I can guarantee you everyone would have been thinking what Sherman said — it just took his combination of temperament and adrenaline to actually say it.
At the end of the day, my basic point is that people are schmucks… and we need to have a bit more understanding for other people being schmucks because we are all purveyors of schmuckery in our own fashion.

          • Rob

Well, YOU are a master of “scmuckery” with your continued defense of little Dickie He, and those who defend him, are human garbage. If the shoe fits “xristy”… :)

        • David Hite

What would Barry Sanders have done?

        • crosshr

come to mind one of the best a decade ago by the name Barry Sander. He would tried a touch down , hand the ball to the ref and go back to his team mates

    • HoneyTree EvilEye

What crap was he talking? Are you referring to this “Someone asked Crabtree if Richard Sherman was the best cornerback in the league. Initially he said he didn’t think so, but he followed up with some context on his opinion:

“I don’t know (anything) about the best cornerbacks in the league. I just know teams, you know. We are playing the Seattle Seahawks and hopefully we come out with a win. We are going hard.”” That’s all I can find and that’s not running your mouth. What Sherman did is, he called Crabtree a “sorry receiver”. Why does Crabtree owe Sherman anything, especially to call him the best? Why shouldn’t Crabtree believe he has the best corners on his team? The entitlement is pathetic.

I highly doubt that statement… mostly because I’m a baseball fan and I remember Nyjer Morgan in his Tony Plush phase… On that note, “Have fun, Cleveland!”

    • MasonMaurer

And? Sherman has been running HIS mouth all season long! and any case rise above

      Pussies rant, Real men ignore!

    • Callmelennie

Richard Sherman just won the NFL championship. Why would the emotion of ANGER be running high. You ever see anyone who just won a championship game be in an angry mood before. Ever?

  • Matthew Koch

Such a great cornerback and such a pos as a human being. Got away with using ped’s and acts like a complete d–k.

I’m glad Seattle won but he is just an A-hole.

The thug mentality is alive and well in the NFL

    • Dr. Venkman

And Sherman is in NO WAY evidence of that. Crabtree pushed Sherman and hit him in the head. Sherman spoke for his team and the collective 12th Man who is tired of the trash-talking by players, announcers (Pam Oliver on the sideline, Buck and Aikman in the booth), and the like.

      • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil ✓Mate

In the spirit of the Washington state law requiring gender neutrality, shouldn’t you all be celebrating the 12th “person?” I know it’s only for gubmint documents, but the Dems wrote it so I figured everyone would want to do their part to not be offensive.

        http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Gender-neutral-language-bill-does-away-with-freshmen-penmanship–204197471.html

      • Shruggd91

Crabtree pushed him away because Sherman got in his face as he often does. Sherman thinks a lot of himself and tells people every chance he gets. I don’t care if he went to Stanford. A punk is a punk whether he’s rich or poor, smart or dumb. He’s a punk.

    • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

*sigh* Thugs? It really looks like you have a very limited knowledge of football. There’s bad apples in every bunch.

  • Steve__Jacobson

Never cheer for the Bronco’s but Sherman makes it difficult not to.

    • Happy Dragon

      Then cheer for Russell Wilson.

    • aztectrumpet

Not for me. Im too sick of Peyton and decker being allowed to commit penalties and not get called to the extent that the defense is being called for it instead.

  • Abz B Zbas

just heard a post-game interview with this idiot. when asked what was up with the rant on Crabtree he replies, “Well I’m a competitor. I don’t like people saying bad things about me…running their mouth.” really? REALLY? You don’t like people running their mouth? those words did not just come out of you or you are the most ignorant motherf’r in the NFL.

        • Brian Roastbeef

Nah relax, I get that. I’m just taking the piss. I’m a Manning fan that switched loyalties from Colts to Broncos for him. Yet I respect Flacco and rooted for Baltimore last year just as WhoDat is doing now. Same for Kurt Warner back in the day.

        • aztectrumpet

          Good choice(at least in payers)

      • Rob Carey

you do realise manning grew up in new orleans, and his father was a qb for the saints right?.. just checking

        • Brian Roastbeef

I think there are at least 4 cities across the US where Peyton Manning is absolutely idolized, and yes New Orleans among them. Already the case in Denver and will be even more in a couple of weeks. Knoxville, of course. And still Indy, where I believe for most the good memories still trump any frustration he’s no longer there.

    • conservative2012

I’m a Manning fan, but I haven’t forgiven him for going to the Broncos. I would have liked to see the 49ers win, I think they would have had a better chance against the Broncos.

  • ainsworth29

    Go Hawks!

    • Happy Dragon

Did you see Russel Wilson’s interview? He praised God!

  • Zakasnak

What’s funny is that Richard Sherman didn’t want anyone talking bad about him….. Now EVERYONE on Facebook is talking bad about him. You’ve proved your athletic ability. You’ve also proved you are an idiot. -Keith M.

    • lisanemo

Nah, I defended Sherman and still do. Crabtree started it back at that dinner. Sherman has my support cause he says it like it is. GO HAWKS!!!

  • CobraJet428

The Kanye West of the NFL.

    • right_on

      Indeed!

  • Dr. Venkman

Of course you all are ok with Crabtree hitting Sherman in the head and Pam Oliver trash-talking the 12th man. When you’re fed-up of being talked down, sometimes the best thing is to call people to the mat, which is all Sherman did.

    • WhoDat

When you steal the 12th man idea from Texas A&M, I lose respect.

      • Dr. Venkman

Yeah, we retired the number 12 jersey in 1984 and A&M got the trademark in 1990, but we’re the big, bad thiefs. Keep up the hypocritical trash-talking that you find so abhorrent when Sherman does it. Winning already brings out the whiny, sore-losers.

        • Matthew Koch

A&M started using it in the 1920s, they have you beat by about 60 years.

    • Matthew Koch

Come up with a new nickname and stop stealing that from Texas A&M. Besides Sherman trash talks all the time. If he can’t take what he dishes out, that’s his own fault.

      • Dr. Venkman

He can take it but is tired of other players hitting and pushing him only to have it ignored while he gets called for a personal foul. Sounds like YOU, and Twitchy, can’t handle Sherman giving it right back to you (not to mention Fox, who had Pam Oliver on the sideline only to talk trash about Seattle fans).

      • TBone Ryan

        Agricultural & Mineral who?

    • Stone Bryson

You’ve got at least one Chiefs fan pulling for your ‘Hawks right here. Our friendly rivalry for the loudest venue is fun, and I have nothing but respect for what your fans do up there. Your team’s pretty awesome, too.

      • Dr. Venkman

Right on, man! It would have been fun to play the Chiefs – a two-part rivalry!

        • Stone Bryson

Just give us one more off-season, time for us to fix up our defensive backfield and receiving corps, and maybe next season we’ll get that wish granted. Man, that would be fun – you want to play the best, and right now the ‘Hawks are IT. :-)

Just please take care of Denver in two weeks. I hate those guys LOL

  • radjahshelduck

I’m just a casual sports fan, so someone explain to me: did this Michael Crabtree fellow he speaks of whack him in the head with a folding chair tossed into the ring by his manager, and then steal his championship belt?

    • Dr. Venkman

No, but he was taunting, Sherman responded (which typically gets the penalty in the NFL’s stupid system), then Crabtree responded again and hit Sherman in the head. Of course, Crabtree is an innocent bystander and Sherman is the devil incarnate. Maybe people should stop trash-talking the Hawks and Sherman (Pam Oliver trash-talking the 12th Man was atrocious) and then he wouldn’t feel the need to respond.

      • Timothy Stone

I think it has more to do with how he didn’t answer the question of the reporter, screamed at the competition, and walked off in a huff. The reporter had nothing to do with his grievance, yet he acted pretty shitty towards her in his conduct.

      • Timothy Crenshaw

You might want to consider that you are making the point against Sherman. Yes the retaliation is what normally gets called. Do you know who else knows this vital tidbit of information? That’s right. The players! Blaming Crabtree for Sherman reacting to him is basically saying that Sherman is too immature and too undisciplined to put his team first. Pam Oliver and the rest of the announcers have nothing to do with any of this between Crabtree and Sherman. End of the argument.

  • Emily B

My favorite part of that was Erin Andrews’ face. lol Despite the fact that my husband is in love with her, I think she’s a pretty cool chick!

  • stuckinIL4now

Okay so Sherman’s obnoxious, but I saw Crabtree shove Sherman first. Crabtree should’ve gotten a flag, too, not that it mattered for the game. Seattle’s performance was underwhelming, but good riddance to 49ers childish foot-stomping coach Jim Hairball. All the guy does is jump up and down on the sidelines crying to get his way. Who wants to see that in a Super Bowl?

    • WhoDat
    • Matthew Koch

In Crabtree’s defense, Sherman smacked his ass before Crabtree shoved him back. You’re right about Harbaugh though.

      • Dr. Venkman

Sherman patted him like he patted 49ers all game. Crabtree acted like a sore-loser and hit Sherman in the head.

        • Matthew Koch

Doing that at the time he did is showing him up. Not exactly shocking that he got smacked for it.

          • Dr. Venkman

He did that all game – it’s what he does and no one else seemed to have a problem with it. In your world, Sherman is the devil because he pushed back against the trash-talking by the 49ers and Fox announcers and Crabtree is an angel for pushing and hitting Sherman?

        • Rob Carey

so its ok for sherman to have emotion but not crabtree? double standard much……..

    • Mike Clenney

saw it last year from his brother too, but at least he won!

    • Rob Carey

but you can bet his wallet will be lighter next week…………..

Richard Sherman is discovery evidence that Stanford allows athletes to be less than academically stellar.

    • http://xristosdomini.wordpress.com/ xristosdomini

…… actually, Sherman was a model student according to ESPN. I think you are confusing academic accomplishment and emotional self-control.

    • Brian Roastbeef

LOL. It may be petty, but I’m going to upvote this post because Tiger Woods went to Stanford and I can’t stand the guy. Must be they teach advanced classes in arrogance.

Sherman and the “12th man” idea are the reasons I will not be rooting for the Seapigeons/chickens.

You have to go back 12 years?! Funny! How many seismic events have been caused by the fans of those two teams…. i could have heard a pin drop during the broncos game.

So what? 12 years ago? How many seismic events have been caused by DC and Denver fans? Zero…. Drinking beer and getting drunk is not the same as being a good fan.

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt” Mark Twain

So how do you explain Buck and Aikman all game and Pam Oliver trash-talking the Seattle fans? I guess that is a-ok in your book but heaven-forbid a Seahawk push back against it.

      • arttie

I was at last weeks’s game in the rain. Enjoyed it thoroughly and was pulling for Seattle today. I would be impressed with a player who avoids the histrionics and calmly walks off with the attitude that I am good and you can see that by my play. That, to me, would be in the opponents face.

        • Dr. Venkman

He speaks for the team and fans who are tired of being told to shut-up and take it while other players and announcers (did you see Pam Oliver trash-talking the fans?) bad-mouth Seattle. It’s nice someone is finally pushing back.

          • June Clinkenbeard

Considering how upset you seem, perhaps your time would be better spent writing to Pam Oliver.

      • Dr. Venkman

Of course she is uninformed. Fox viewed it’s job as talking-up the 49ers and trash-talking Seattle (Pam Oliver taunting the fans was the worst).

    • Brian Roastbeef

Interesting info on the Commie part. Not doubting, but do you have a source you can link?

      • Skittles

I saw him on NFL Network one time pushing some commie BS. Can’t find a source after looking for a couple of minutes.

        • Brian Roastbeef

    • jaydee007

Never mind the fact that Sherman tried to be gracious to Crabtree and he shoved him away and said some nasty things to him; that had nothing to do with it.

      • Skittles

Gimme a frickin’ break. Sherman is a no class fool who was talking smack, as usual, right after he made a play. He tapped Crabtree on the helmet to get his attention so he could talk some more smack.

        • jaydee007

I find it amusing to see all you Seattle Haters talking like Richard Sherman’s comment “Suddenly” made you decide not to do something you never intended to do in the first place.
As the Sports Center folks concluded, Sherman has Earned the Right to talk like that because he backs up his words with deeds on the field.

  • LR99

Another NFL game decided by poor officiating! The no call roughing passer lead to a Seattle TD! There was no balance for 9ers on calls! When will merit actually be a determining factor in the NFL?

    • Dr. Venkman

For once, merit WAS the factor. Seattle was CLEARLY the superior team. The 49ers were SHUT-DOWN for 75% of the 2nd half.

      • $34377704

they also had a lot of calls go against them. the roughing the punter call was bogus and cost them possession.

        • Richard Jefferies

Yes because you’re a real winner when you have to rely on a technicality to move the ball down the field.

          • $34377704

so you’re saying blown calls have never affected the outcome of a game? awesome. you’re a sports history genius.

      • LR99

You mean with the help of bad officiating! There were at least two bad calls in the 2nd so exactly where do you start & stop measuring merit?

Go back to Ghostbusters. Your excuses aren’t getting it done.

  • cscape

it hearkens back to that idiot coach of theirs….. the team is undisciplined – it is Carroll’s fault

    • Dr. Venkman

And Crabtree pushing and hitting Sherman and Fox allowing announcers to trash-talk fans IS disciplined. Face it, y’all are upset that the Seahawks didn’t “know their role” and sit in the corner, shut-up, and lose.

      • Skittles

Then why did the refs penalize Sherman and not Crabtree for unsportsmanlike conduct? Because Sherman is a no class piece of trash sore winner who got up in Crabtree’s face.

        • Dr. Venkman

Because Sherman is the current “boogey-man.” Face it, you’re only upset because Seattle didn’t lay down and die like they were supposed to. Always sucks to get a taste of your own medicine.

          • Skittles

I’m not a 49’ers fan. I’m actually a Russell Wilson fan who was rooting for the Seahawks during this game. Next week, I’ll be rooting for Welker to turn Sherman into a vegetable. That piece of trash is a disgrace to the game.

          • Ken Hoffman

Wow people. Get over it. Football is a high energy emotional game for some. So immediately after the game while emotions are still high you ask someone a question and you are shocked that they went of?? Get over it!! He was much more in control of his emotions later when interviewed again. If you want all these perfect little people that act just like you think they should all the time don’t watch football!! He could have done much better with his comments but it wasn’t that bad considering that he just came off the field still worked up.

    • June Clinkenbeard

And yet hundreds of men have been on national television over many decades and have managed to keep it together & a lot of them were not college graduates. I don’t want perfect but decent, yeah. Excuses, excuses…

      • Rick

I did not excuse it just saying it wasn’t that big of a deal given the situation. You guys trying to make a bigger deal out is a little ridiculous. Classless on his part yes but this super big deal that cause millions of comments on twitter and FB?? Not that big of a deal.

    • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

I completely agree and I rooted for the 9ers. It was completely in poor taste but I’m not bothered by it. I bet most of these people complaining are also the ones saying NFL is getting “too soft”. Then once they hear some trash talking, now NFL is a “filled with thugs”. *sigh* You can’t have it both ways people.

  • mary Swanberg

they shouldn’t have pulled him into an interview when he was still mad after crabtree talked stuff to him and shoved him in the face. on a normal basis he is fine. really a shame that is the thing you guys will remember

    • June Clinkenbeard

That ‘s his job and however we remember him is *on* him. How was Erin to know he was not capable of handling his business? He got a degree in communications from Stanford! Come on people. This isn’t that hard.

      • Ken Hoffman

And note.. not one FBOMB or SBOMB or NBOMB giving him a lot of natural class given who excited he was.. even my wife dropped a few during the game and she is as nice as they come.. no one notes he didn’t use profanity.. just basically said.. I proved all the SF trash Talk as Bogus.. though I would call it B#LL SH%T but I don’t have Sherman’s class :)

        • June Clinkenbeard

As an avid football fan with many games under my belt, lo these many years, Sherman’s outburst was ridiculous. He couldn’t leave it on the field. It wasn’t about the team or the win, just him. I’m sorry you don’t see the point. I won’t give him a pass because he didn’t swear. Dealing with the media is part of his job. He blew it. Not the end of the world though. Perhaps it will be a moment for him to learn about how to deal.

BTW, I hate the Niners and was delighted they lost. Looking forward to watching Sherman lose it when Peyton helps him realize he’s not *that* great! ;-D

  • Vicky

    OMGosh…..Gooooooo Broncos…even more…!

  • Guest

In another interview he said that Crabtree was “mediocre at best”…HA

  • g-main

This is football. From Terrell Owens, to Randy Moss mooning the fans, heck let’s go back to Joe Namath wearing a fur coat on the sidelines. We’re not watching a Polo match, after all.

    • Skittles

Richard Sherman: The only guy who makes Terrell Owens seem like a classy player in comparison.

    • June Clinkenbeard

Terrell Owens signed a ball with a sharpie in the end zone or grabbed a cheerleaders pom poms and did his thing. That was entertaining. That was hilarious! Sherman was neither of those things. I’m all for letting a playa play but in this case he crossed the line. Moving on…

  • bigmoinaz

Richard Sherman is what is wrong with the NFL today! I suppose you could say it is what has been wrong with football over the last couple of decades! Would love nothing better than to go one on one with Ricky and crush his face in like the thug wannabe he is!

  • sykora44

I’m sorry, but that was hilarious. Let the guy go WWE in the moment, they’re playing a game not deciding national policy. Its not like Joe Biden is declaring his administration the greatest ever… wait, what?

  • Bob Young

Who is this asshole, and how much does an idiot like this make in the NFL? I assume he didn’t attend college, but if he did whatever college he attended should have their accreditation pulled immediately.

  • chaga

More Class from the NFL —-Spit

  • danapointdad

lots of hateful stuff, so sad… sherman’s been undervalued his whole career, and is arguably the best db in the game… let him be crazy, he makes the game that much more interesting…

  • msf

I don’t have any problems with it. He’s an extremely emotional player. Crabtree has been talking about how he would expose Sherman. Sherman made the game winning play with Crabtree having a front row seat. Erin Andrews grabbed him barely 2 minutes after the game ended. He was still on his mountain. Ten minutes later he was back to normal with the Fox crew. I’ll be pulling for Denver, but I lost no love for Sherman. He’s an amazing player and a good person off the field.

  • James Anthony LaRocco

    Typical behavior, Darwin was right.

  • scott206

Did anyone ever react this way to Ray Lewis?

    • Daffy2009

      Yes, lots of people

    • scott brecht

      Definitely.

    • Brian Roastbeef

In fairness, yes fans did. Media, not always.

    • WhatMeWorry

Yes. He disgusted me from the time he came on the scene. Even more after the trouble with the murder mess.

    • June Clinkenbeard

Did he go on tv & act like an asshat? If so, then yes, yes we did.

      • scott206

Oh I see, so Sherman should have just murdered someone. Because that’s like cool, and stuff.

        • June Clinkenbeard

You already know that reply was stupid. I forgive you.

          • scott206

Not as stupid as whitewashing Ray Lewis’ career for 10 years and portraying him as a choirboy before last year’s Superbowl.

          • June Clinkenbeard

Where exactly did I do that? Besides, it’s irrelevant. Reading is fundamental… http://tinyurl.com/ay42nel

          • scott206

Did I say YOU did? But please tell me more about reading fundamentals.

  • 24601

I understand the excitement of the moment. He was a bit over the top though.

The thing I’ve really missed is a good coaching rant.

  • Sim

Sherman graduated from Stanford with a communications degree. If there was a poster-child for a higher ed bubble…. Glenn Reynolds, call your office!

  • alostjunkie

Did anyone see that clip on Fox Sports of Seahawk fans throwing popcorn on the injured Niners being carted into the locker room? Wow, keep it classy Seattle. Go Broncos!!

  • Mike Shapiro

In the end….who gives a shit

  • Psyko Spike

GO SEAHAWKS!!! I’m cheering for skill, not for who has the most class. If I wanted to watch a class sport I would be watching Polo or Cricket.

  • Daffy2009

Andrews should refer to him as “Little Dick Sherman” from now on

  • Brad Fish

Just keep doin what you do Richard and ignore the haters. Crabtree was running his mouth and had it coming…

  • malb

    Go Broncos!

  • Pat Loudoun

Way to go Seattle. Your 12th man this week wore black and white stripes.

    • akjim99

      Ahhh, I see there’s a 49er’s fan out tonight.

      • Pat Loudoun

I’m a football fan, asswipe. Two game changing bad calls? You’re OK with that?

  • Patriot1

You are mistaken. This is not poor sportsmanship nor is he insane. He is just a young ferocious competitor. The ferocity works for him so he uses it to win. When he wins he tells you why he won. If you are a sore loser or a wallflower who can’t take it, that’s your problem.

    • Thunderboy1

Nobody is mistaken here. That was about as poor of sportsmanship as one can get. He’s a d bag, and now everybody is hoping for Denver to win. His teammates are prob embarrassed. it’s not about ferocity when speaking to a lady reporter AFTER the game.

    • June Clinkenbeard

ICYMI the game was OVER! He showed poor judgement & no class. Making fans uncomfortable & angry after a win is not his JOB. He should do his talking on the field where it counts.

      • June Clinkenbeard

Honestly, I can’t see how I could get downvoted for what I wrote. Planet earth is a crazy place…

  • TBone Ryan

Am I the only one sick of PC world turning men into weanies?! I’d bet a million bucks that Crabtree probably understands and won’t give it another thought… unless he has been infected by liberalism.

    • Skittles

This isn’t about liberalism. It’s about respect for the game and Sherman doesn’t have any. Lots of folks in football country treat the game almost like a religion. In their eyes, Sherman is a blaspheming POS who needs to be turned into a vegetable by Welker during the super bowl.

      • TBone Ryan

Now this is funny! Calling some a “blaspheming POS” who should be turned into a “vegetable.” Talk about classless….. LMAO!

    • 44Grim

Yep, it’s definitely less ‘strong’ and less ‘manly’ to simply win with class. Darn Adrian Peterson, what a woman. Peyton Manning, what a wuss.

      • TBone Ryan

        A non sequitur…. LMAO!

      • TBone Ryan

        How is Adrian’s son doing?

        • 44Grim

I dare you to ask him that question.

          • TBone Ryan

LOL! Point being he’s not exactly a role model… keep up the good work supporting the feminization of men!

I think he had 1 too many hits.

  • Rick VandenOever

Wow when he becomes self aware some day he will be so embarrassed.

  • DeadlockVictim

I see *someone* watched a lot of wrestling when they were growing up.

  • Kevin Blankenship

Richard Sherman has his “Roid” rage on!! Yeah you gotta love the NFL’s testing policy now.

  • TBone Ryan

Let’s not lose the BIG picture… Two western teams are in the East Coast Cold Weather Super Bowl. NFL corporate must be in tears!!! At least Sherman might have given the Liberal Center of the Universe, otherwise known as the northeast corner of the country, a reason to be interested….

    • Richard Jefferies

Yes, Denver is such a mild weathered place. No snow at all. They don’t know anything about the cold in Denver.

    • akjim99

Denver and Seattle aren’t exactly tropical isles. Seattle in particular is cold and wet this time of year.

  • antilib

I didn’t like Seattle before. Like them even less now. Now I won’t even watch. I will not support egotistical ass-clowns like this. Jerks like this ruin the game. I’ve lost interest. Hey, Sherman. You really are not important, regardless what you may think. Ass!

  • Dannyboy71

Pete Carroll is enough to make me a Broncos fan because he encourages players like this to be like this.

  • Rob

Both Seattle and San Francisco are garbage organizations from garbage towns. For that matter, both AFC teams are from towns that would make the world a better place if they ceased to exist. I’ll root for the Broncos since they are the least offensive. When that big earthquake comes and makes Las Vegas beachfront property, the IQ and moral compass of this country will instantly improve. Little Dickie Sherman is just one more example of why 99% of pro sports (and its fans) is worthless tripe. I’m in the 1% with intelligence of course. I hope he suffers a career-ending injury on the first play…sweet justice.

    • BuckSnorts Rush

That is true.. The whole SF defense plays like a bunch of wild monkeys.. Can you imagine the chimpout if THEY would have won… ??

  • diana harrell

I have no idea what he was saying, but obviously he was upset over something. He probably should not be playing sports if he can’t handle the pressure. No class.

  • Kaltenbach

Nah, the only thing that has shocked me so far is that so many of my fellow conservatives are such pussies about NFL trash talk.

  • Le Cajun du foux

Well Seattle could well make up for this by contacting Veterans especially disabled veterans and finding out how many would like to attend the Super Bowl, then buy a block of seats for them, provide air fare, hotel stays, and as much first class treatment they can muster maybe even have Sherman be the one who serves them special dinners on the night before the game. That would go a long way for making up for one of their own showing them to be thoughtless and arrogant corporate money hogs. Of course the cost for all of this could easily be deducted from Sherman’s pay.

    • William

Actually they do give tickets out for free through the MWR here at Joint Base Lewis McChord. We had Soldiers on the flag detail last weekend for them and have been given tickets for free. Many of these tickets are sideline type tickets. Many of us have met Sherman have found him to be polite, upfront and brutally honest. He still had his game face on or what we in the Army call a war face. Which adrenalin tends to make you seem this way. Add to that the trash talk from Crabtree before. So, you say he should have been the bigger person right? Yet you all come on here and do the same thing to him? Ok, that is a do as we say and not as I do attitude. How many are just upset that their team didn’t make it?

  • Gstephens

It’s just the “roids” talking. Give him a few months without them and he’ll only sound stupid and classless. The roids give it that angry, maniacal flavor.

  • Mike Hobgood

What the hell did he say? I 0nly speak and understand English!

  • BigRed

This is the same guy who said in a commercial that not everyone who comes from Compton is a gangbanger. Yeah, who would think that after his postgame comments?

  • Dave Cash

Just another shit talking Compton (I would be called a racist if I used the N word) street thug!

  • Rob Hospidor

ignorant asshole he choose to play at Stanford to get an education and gives much of his time to help kids from broken homes.

  • Michelle ✓classified

Now he’s doubling down on Twitter: “A lion doesn’t concern himself with the opinions of a sheep.”

    • BuckSnorts Rush

and a monkey doesn’t concern himself with the opinions of the bananas…

  • Jarrod A Smith

Though he could have framed his comments better, judging the man on ten seconds is foolish when you don’t have the facts, Jack.

    • Michelle ✓classified

What facts could we learn of that would justify him calling himself “the best CB in the game”? Regardless of the backstory, that’s some serious conceit right there.

      • $34377704

he led the league in interceptions.

        • Michelle ✓classified

Um, the facts Jarrod referred to and the ones I asked about were about the trash talk. Meaning, what childish words were slung back and forth would justify him boasting like hoodrat from the ghetto? If you remain confused, let me know and I’ll explain it more.

          • $34377704

you asked what facts could you learn that would justify him calling himself the best. I explained to you that he IS the best at intercepting passes. he also saved the game by preventing crabtree from catching a touchdown pass at the end of the game.

crabtree (the guy he defended successfully at the end of the game) trashed him publicly before the game. so the trash talk was nothing more than a public response to a public insult.

i’m not confused. you asked a question and I gave you the answer.

          • Michelle ✓classified

No sweetie, you actually are confused. Jarrod made a comment suggesting folks not judge without knowing the facts (meaning the back story) and I asked what facts (also meaning the back story) would justify Sherman’s behavior – which was nothing more than acting like a ghetto punk.

Being insulted is not a mature explanation for the way he behaved. Mommy always said two wrongs don’t make a right.

Jarrod’s comment and my question have positively nothing to do with Sherman’s stats, although you have yourself convinced they do. And the fact you seem think it’s about stats is the reason you are in fact, confused.

Don’t know what to tell ya if you remain confused even after a second explanation. In any event Rick, have a nice evening!

          • $34377704

you obviously don’t know how to read and understand plain English. you asked what FACTS justify Sherman calling himself the best. I told you he said that because he IS the best. he led the league in interceptions (see, leading the league in interceptions IS A FACT).

the other FACT I explained to you was the FACT that he was insulted before the game by the player he was talking about on the TV interview. if you think it is “wrong” to respond to someone who insulted you, then you truly are out to lunch.

if you can’t understand that, then you can’t understand anything.

          • Michelle ✓classified

I’ll give it one more shot, and then you’re on your own. I used the word “facts” in reply to this ” judging the man on ten seconds is foolish when you don’t have the facts, Jack”

In the context of the conversation (that you are so badly misunderstanding) “facts” mean the back story.

Responding insult, if one chooses to engage in such childish behavior, doesn’t have to include over-the-top conceit.

Good night Rick. We are so seriously done this time. Something tells me you really need the last word. Have at it, I won’t be reading it.

          • $34377704

it’s all the same. the back story and the fact is he led the league in interceptions. he is the best at his position. the back story and the fact is he was insulted by the guy he successfully defended and stopped from scoring. back story and facts are the same.

do you honestly think it is wrong for a professional football player to raise his voice? lol, if you do, then you don’t belong in this discussion. go comment on a woman’s etiquette forum.

Sherman went to Stanford, not USC. But, thanks for playing! Better luck next time.

All neighborhoods have rats, even the white ones. Who’s the racist? That would be you. Race never crossed my mind, but it did yours. Funny how that works.

Where I come from a hoodrat is anyone who lacks class and self-respect. What a shame you make a race thing.

          • Ken Hoffman

You wrote “Hoodrat from the Ghetto” and not once did you think about race… SO you are a liar too.. nice way to make Sherman look classy compared to you…

Gee Ken – I’m really sorry you are all kinds of butt hurt that folks weren’t impressed with Sherman’s comments. I’m pretty sure that if you give it a few days, it will start to get better for you. Once again Kenny, where I come from “hoodrat” isn’t just used for black people – YOU are playing that card. A ghetto is a ghetto and guess what Kenny? There are white ghettos, hispanic ghettos, black ghettos.

You are as disturbed as your pal Rick up there and I think it’s really very sad that two grown men are harassing someone on the Interwebz just because they don’t agree with that person.

I’m not going to give you or Rick anymore attention. I won’t be reading anymore of your comments. I think you’re a very troubled person and I’m no longer going to participate in whatever problems you are having.

I was at the game and SEAHAWKS BABY!!! That interview wasn’t anything…blah…just emotion after a win. Still love Richard Sherman, partly because he says what he wants and mostly because he is an awesome player.

  • Eddie frOly

He does not represent the way the entire team is run or behaves. He was classless but I will still be pulling for Seattle. It’s much better choice than the two faced lying POS that runs the Broncos and his lying two faced quarterback.

    • William2010

Eddie frOly, I do not understand your consternation against the two faced lying POS that runs the Broncos and his lying, two faced quarterback.

      Please help me understand.

I was happy that the 49ers and Seahawks were the two teams which competed for the NFC championship. This season I hoped that both teams went all the way, and they did.

Now I look forward to the Superbowl and hope it is an entertaining game.

      • Eddie frOly

What I mean is this while I readily admit that Tim Tebow was never going to be a franchise quarterback a man is only as good as his word. John Elway and Payton both stepped out from the get saying oh “we don’t know what we’re going to do with Tim blah blah blah. ..” they had just gotten back from their play off loss and he unanimously dumped told to clean out his locker and leave. Sorry Patton used to be one of my favorite players not now. If he would come out and admit that the way the situation was handled was wrong and Tim got shafted that be different but he hasn’t and he never will. Because unlike Tim he will let the world see one thing but do another. As long as the talking heads at ESPN and the like endorse it a a good move people just say oh thank goodness my team is winning again. It’s pathetic people who on one hand complain about the dirty play of people like the Lions defensive end then turn around and endorse shady behavior like that. That’s what you get from a schizophrenic society that says there are no objective morals but then tries like hell to make sure everyone knows what you believe is wrong. Anyway sorry for the rant. I agree that I was glad to see SFC and Seattle in NFC title game. Just hope that Seattle has the horses to keep it close until the fourth quarter. Fourth quarter play offs if he doesn’t have a commanding lead or feel like his team is controlling the game the Broncos quarterback folds like a card table.

If you’ve ever watched Sherman in post game interviews through the season, you’ll find he’s been polite and level headed. So whatever went on between him and Crabtree must have been bad enough to set him off. I may be wrong, but the NFL requires these guys to talk to anyone who sticks a microphone in his face. And at times you’ll get some angry responses. But he is right, he is the best in the league.

I knew he was like that…..Crabtree might have upset him with bad conduct, but I don’t hear him carrying on like Sherman did to Erin Andrews. That was a bad tasting interview and his temper should his true colors of rotten spoiled sportsmanship. Just think what it would have been like if he would allowed Crabtree to make that catch in the end zone….he would of maybe hit Erin or Crabtree or any other person that got in front of him. He just made a lot of fans root now for the Denver Broncos. Myself included…..I hope Peyton Manning cleans and creams his clock on a bunch of long bomb passes and smears Seattle.

    • Ken Hoffman

Hit Erin? really Wow you had time to think about what you wrote and it was a slur… and you dare criticize a guy who just made the play sending his team to the Super Bowl.. that was hyped and had the class not to drop a single F BOMB, SBOME etc.. YOU ARE LAME>.>

I wish Brady and Manning would have trash talked each other leading up to AFC championship game and maybe it wouldn’t have turned out to be such a dud.

  • Ken Hoffman

I guess all that POT the have been selling in CO makes whiners of all the Bronco’s fans.. I like a man who can go crazy when pumped on adrenaline WITHOUT A SINGLE S or F bomb.. That is class.. BTW.. NFL has been trying to fine players for being too quiet… let them try to fine Sherman for all the PR and no profanity!!!

    • jaydee007

Most of the people here who are saying they “Suddenly” no longer want to support the Hawks are just plain Lying!
Look at the level of venom – they didn’t like the Hawks BEFORE Richard said anything, they are just using what he said to try to make a bandwagon effect.

      • beebop1952

I can only speak for me, but when Manning gets done “talking” on the field in two weeks, people will be back to saying “Sherman?”

        • sumlikeit

I certainly hope that’s the case. I love Peyton Manning and think he’s not only the kind of player that others should try to emulate on the field, he’s also the kind of person they should try to emulate off it.

That said: he has a history of saving some of his worst play for the biggest games.

      • sumlikeit

I neither liked nor disliked the Seahawks before this outburst. If the Seahawks organization and fans condone and tolerate (if not cheer!) this kind of aberrant behavior, then I have sufficient cause to get off the fence about them.

Not that who I do or don’t support makes any kind of difference. I realize that. But I could never support an organization that tolerates this kind of garbage.

        • jaydee007

Oh, then you don’t support any sports franchise.
          I see.

[W]e — the media, and fans in general — don’t know what we want. We rip athletes for giving us boring quotes. But if they say what they actually feel, we rip them for spouting off or showing a lack of class.

So my choices are a)boring quotes or b)unhinged, inappropriate ranting. Hmmm…that’s a tough one…

      • jaydee007
        • June Clinkenbeard

What was I supposed to learn from that that I didn’t already know? Good article, interesting and all but what? It’s great to have intense emotions in football, rivalries & jawing. I guess i’m just old school. Arrogance is ok to a point. Sherman was just too far out of bounds for me. It’s all good. Thanks for the link.

          • jaydee007

            Nope – You’re new school.
Chickified Football – Let’s all be nice about beating each other to a pulp, and let’s not beat each other if we can help it.
Old School is Chuck Knoll saying of Jack Lambert, “He’s so mean he doesn’t even like himself.”
What Richard said wouldn’t even lift an eyebrow back then.
But Dizzy Dean’s comment applies to Richard as well, “It Ain’t Braggin’ when yuh dun it!”

          • June Clinkenbeard

I was there & none of that made TV. I am old school. I don’t like all the rules that have made in near impossible for a DB to hit a QB w/o a penalty and that’s just the tip of the iceburg. It seems because I have an opinion regarding Sherman different from your own I’m into “chickified football”. Whatever.

          • jaydee007
          • sumlikeit

Show me a clip of Jack Lambert or Dick Butkus or any of those guys talking like this — during an interview or otherwise.
Sure, they were “mean” — but they did their talking with their shoulder pads.

          • jaydee007
  • TJ

sherman didnt seem to be trash talking as much as venting his frustration regarding crabtree mouthing off. he seemed pissed more thqn cocky!

  • Tyson Litz

If you did not get the memo, you are a racist if you are white and criticize Dick Sherman for his alledgedly classless, outrageous, taunting (choke gesture), and gang reference at the end of the game. Any references to his undoubtedly smelly dreadlocks are also forbidden as being racist.
After all, Monday is Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Day.
Now let’s talk about your TPS Reports…

  • Gary

This type of rant, on or off the playing field, court, floor, whatever; is the reason I don’t care or like to watch college or professional sports anymore. I understand the heat of the moment and pumping up for the game. I just don’t like the cocky attitude. Bob Cousy, Mickey Mantle, Kareem Jabbar, Fran Tarkenton, Bill Russell, Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente: I could go on and on, would never act like the so called “stars” of today. Like I said before, college sports players are getting to be just as bad. Hanging on the rim, banging their chest, folding their arms, strutting down the floor with their mouth wide open showing their molars, posing like the “Heisman” trophy. Ridiculous!!!

  • Gary

    Her reaction was wonderful!!!!!!

    • BuckSnorts Rush

I remember some nasty rapper tried to “kiss” her during a sideline interview.. I’ve never seen any woman turn her head and move back so fast.. LOL.

  • Dionysus86

It was hilarious. They’re football players, not elected officials. None of this really means anything. If you’re up in arms about it, wait a few weeks, you can watch curling on NBC or something else that won’t offend your delicate sensibilities.

    • sumlikeit

I think this is the other way around. If you want to watch aggro smack-talking, you can watch the WWE. That’s pretty much what it exists for.

Hating this kind of stuff is not about having “delicate sensibilities” — it’s about respecting class and sportsmanship….of which Sherman has none.

      • Dionysus86

These are grown men who play a bloodsport for our amusement. If we’re going to get all butthurt every time someone says something mean, then all is lost.

I thank God that Muhammad Ali fought in a time when everyone wasn’t such a wuss.

        • sumlikeit

One can be a tough competitor and still maintain class and sportsmanship. In fact, I’d say our society was far less tolerant (which, IMO, it should not tolerate) of this kind of behavior 40 or 50 years ago than it is today.
Sure, we wanted the Dick Butkuses of the world to be menaces on the field. But we also held them to a standard of decency so far as their off-field demeanor.
Our society is not better off for having become tolerant of such anti-social behavior.

  • Sambo Caesar

I can’t believe there are comments that run the entire height of my screen on this. OMG!!! An obscenely overpaid professional athlete is self-absorbed? The horror!!!!!

  • Jay Martin Bennett

Another black sounding insanely off – Pathetic.

    • sumlikeit

No need to make this a racial thing. We whities can still count the likes of Bill Laimbeer, Bobby Knight, that Rutgers basketball coach….and let’s not forget the most vile creep in the history of sports: Jerry Sandusky.

To that end, how many of the classiest and most respectable players in NFL history were black? Jerry Rice, Barry Sanders, Warrick Dunn, Marvin Harrison, Ronnie Lott, etc.

Sherman’s a jerk. But that has nothing to do with his race.

      • BuckSnorts Rush

Not really true.. blacks do this more than 1,000 times more often than whites.. I don’t care about skin color either, but I really am sick of this one sided “look at me I’m the greatest” circus show we have to endure every time we watch professional sports.. Which always comes from one particular demographic..

        • Amanda Davis

Cite your sources. If you are going to bring race into it, please back it up with facts. Otherwise you reinforce the negative stereotypes about us conservatives.

EDIT- never mind. I looked at your comment history and see that all you do is post vile racist bullsh** on any article that has a black person in it. Your viewpoints are disgusting, backwards and full of hate.

  • Cannonball2014

The moral of the story is never publicly admit you are the best at something. Everyone is equal. Trophies for everyone!

  • dareisay

Sorry, I just cannot understand what he is saying.

  • George Murrey

I really thought Seattle had class, but Sherman showed they aren’t. If I weren’t a Broncos fan before, I would be now. Even Tom Brady showed class after the game, which is very unusual for him.

    • sumlikeit

I’m a Colts fan (who now counts the Broncos as a second-favorite when the Colts aren’t there). So I’m hardly a Tom Brady or Patriots fan. However, I can’t ever recall him acting like a classless jerk. Quite the contrary, really.

Also, it probably isn’t fair to tar the entire Seahawks team because of Sherman’s garbage. Their most prominent player is probably QB Russell Wilson — who is clearly a great player, and also seems like a very classy guy.

  • gator37

Coach should suspend him for the Super Bowl game.

  • Byrum Blobshittle

But of COURSE there are no football players on drugs! And if he IS on drugs, it’s OK because it’s Bush’s fault!

  • Arkuy The Great

“I just made you a Broncos fan”

If the Pats are out I honestly couldn’t care who wins. I just appreciate a good football game, no matter who plays. What these overpaid gladiators do when time runs out does not concern me as long as nobody gets hurt (cough!-Aaron Hernandez-cough!).

  • Brother bob

Let’s put this in perspective..tough guy bragging about catching a leather skin ball.

    • MikeDR2012

I thought he just knocked it away and somebody else caught it?

    • sumlikeit

      A) He didn’t catch it. He batted it away.

      B) I really do think there’s a cultural thing to this. NFL history is littered with men who were very, very tough competitors: Brown, Butkus, Lambert, etal. You’d have never seen any of them act this way.

  • Eric Weaver

yes he acted like an idiot but I think everyone missed why he was so lets say angry. He offered his hand to Crabtree and got pushed in the face right or wrong most of you would be upset with that.

  • jeffryj4

He sounded exactly the way he looked!

  • Albert Schmitlap.

And my friends wonder why I DON”T watch sports…LMAO,,,one more reason…among the others that kill their girl friends because they didn’t want to pay child support, run over people while High, Use dope to enhance their game, lie, cheat and lie some more about their low life friends ( Gang members) and now this Moron,,,looks like Predator,,,where is Arnold when you need him. This idiot is acting like a steroid Freak,,,need to test this A-Hole NOW. But then, don’t MOST of them…disgusting exhibition of a CHILD like Temper Tantrum. and the media condemns and demeans Tebow….sad, huh

  • LAPhil

He sounded a lot like Dennis Rodman when he was drunk and ranting about how Kenneth Bae was responsible for his own imprisonment by the North Koreans.

  • sam

Everyone wants to say how classless Sherman was, but if you take some of the most competitive people in the world and then interview them after they just made a game winning play that is sending their team to the super bowl what do you think is going to happen. Tea and crumpets? No overly excited screaming!

  • BitingGirl

Can someone please write up what the man says? I can’t understand him through the anger. Lol. But no, seriously, what’d he say?

  • Uncle Ted

He is a good example of why you should stay away from the Hood…Dangerious

  • $3838536

Dat boy Sherman, he uglier that Serena Williams. Got about as much class, too.

  • 364NKL

No, I will NOT be rooting for the Bronco’s because of this rant. I want Pete Carroll to win the big game.

  • Mike

He’s a glory hog that needs some anger management classes with Jack Nicholson.

  • Jeffrey Tallman

Kinda reminds me of when the Brewers won a playoff series a few years ago and they ran around around like a bunch of juveniles on crack. Cept this guy removed all doubt on whether he was using or not. Ridiculous. What’s the old saying? “Act like ya been there before”.

  • MikeDR2012

Doesn’t he get paid to knock the ball out of the air when somebody tries to catch it? I don’t see why he’s so excited that he accomplished that unless he had some lower expectations. I don’t get that excited when I fix a problem at work. “Don’t you give me no error code, bug! I fix yo ass with a patch!”

    • BuckSnorts Rush

It is quite an accomplishment though.. He succeeded in doing his job without affirmative action help.. Ten bucks says Al and Jesse show up at the super bowl… “just in case”…

  • Mackie

Aw just a little bit to wired up, he forgot it is just a football game and nobody gives a flying f*#k about his personal problems. Maybe he should be tested for drugs or he wants to be the next Dennis Rodman?

  • jonas blaine

His comments, while bombastic and filled with raw emotion, were nothing compared to the hyperbolic and visceral comments made by those reacting to his words. I’ve read countless posts that range from calling him a p.o.s.to hoping he gets shot dead on the way home from the game. I can understand people being off-put by his comments, but the overreaction to it has been far worse than anything Sherman was even imagined to have said.

  • nononsense57

I hope the Broncos stomp all over that self-important little p*r*i*c*k. He pretends to be all big and bad but he dances to the tune of the organization owners and his corporate sponsors. He talks all bad-azz about how he does things by “his rules” but he still works for someone else. He collects a check and I hope some huge Bronco dude toasts him good in the Superbowl.

The guy showed emotion after a huge play and a huge win. Claiming to be the best corner after actually proving it with his play on the field. The Broncos will suffer the same result – the only chance the Niners had were Kaepernicks legs and we all know Manning doesn’t have any. Sacks, fumbles, interceptions OH MY! Go Seahawks! And when you win – it’s OK to celebrate by calling yourselves the best – you just proved it!

Sherms was just pissed cuz Crabs shorted him on a drug deal over the summer. That’s all!

  • David Anderson

Pete Carroll lied his way through USC and got promoted back to the NFL. This is how things work in sports.

  • right_on

None of the teams have classes to teach “class.” Sherman might lead the NFL in interceptions this year, but I think he just made himself a target for next. What is it about some of these guys? They just can’t let their performance on the field speak for itself.
I thought Sherman’s little act at the end of the game, the universal sign of choking, was really unnecessary, unsportsmanlike, and childish.

    • PNWShan

Try to get the whole story. http://mmqb.si.com/2014/01/20/richard-sherman-interview-michael-crabtree/
Plus there’s history of Crabtree being nasty to Sherman at some charity event.

      • right_on

I don’t think one needs Sherman’s version of the “whole story” when reacting to his single moment of unsportsmanlike classlessness. Obviously, given any history with Crabtree, Sherman didn’t feel the necessity of being the bigger man, and a humble professional. Now, he wants to rehabilitate himself? I don’t buy it…outbursts of passion, like his, is ingrained, not spontaneous, IMHO.

  • David Harrison

If B.O. had a son who he allowed to play Football……..

    • lisanemo

      He would be Crabtree?

  • right_on

This is how labels are made: “Wow, did you see that guy go all ‘Sherman’ out there?”

  • Douglas Simmons

Reading all these comments has been very entertaining. Cmon people, the guy is a “jock”. Remember these guys from high school? Loud mouth braggers, most of them.

  • Cannonball2014

There is nothing wrong with what Sherman said just like there was nothing wrong with what Phil Robertson said. Violence in football is fine, but trash talkin crosses the line.

  • radicallyalyssa

    Go Broncos!

  • Deborah Woolley

Our Broncos have so much more class! Our guys were pumped up too but your NEVER saw anything like this from them!

  • Dobermite

First of all, I’m not a Seahawks fans, I’m a Jets fan (I know, it hurts), but I have no reason to defend Richard Sherman, and yet I will.

    1. Crabtree reportedly dissed Sherman at a charity event this year, mouthing off about what he was going to do to Sherman, so he started this beef and its too bad that he picked a fight with the wrong guy.

    2. These two teams HATE one another and this game was throwback football, violent collisions, a virtual bloodbath, and people on the sidelines admitted that harsh words were being exchanged both ways all day, a lot harsher than anything Sherman said in his now infamous post game interviews or subsequent tweets.

    3. ITS FOOTBALL, stop trying to sissify it.

    4. Get a sense of humor, cause IMO Sherman is funny.

    5. Last but not least, Sherman backs it up. A lot of people are asking who is Richard Sherman, acting like he’s some average player with a big mouth, but the truth is, and people who know football know this, he is actually one of the two or three best pure cover-corners in the game, if not the best, a “shutdown corner.”

  • jj

Sherman is a legend in his own mind…
He could take some lessons from the man who IS the best corner in the league…
    Darrelle Revis…who is also a true gentelmen…

The thug (I could say something else but it wouldn’t be allowed) is so self absorbed he probably believes his own words as if they were praise from someone else…

I can only hope that Manning buries Sherman next to Hoffa when he’s in NJ next week !!!

  • St Reformed

Pete Carroll had best put this clown in the doghouse or Sherwin will have a microphone in front of his mouth for the next 2 weeks.

  • anAmericanMom

Those extensions take a lot away from his attempt at being, all that.

  • TTTCOTTH

All you folks that escaped the drugs, gangs, and crime of Compton, and got an education at Stanford, like Richard Sherman did chime in now. Oh, wait a minute………………………………….

PS: Seahawks should have lost due to a fumble at the 2yrd line i which the 49 linebacker tore his ACL.
Now THAT could have been your story.

  • http://cjndaily.com/ Joe Schwabaucker

I’m gonna play devil’s advocate here for a short moment. This situation didn’t just happen in the end zone … Crabtree’s dislike of Richard Sherman goes back a ways. At one point they were both at a charity event and Crabtree tried to pick a fight. He talks shit about Sherman all the time… and the only reason that I can see is that Sherman is good. In addition to that Sherman played under Harbaugh in college and Jimmy made a pretty disparaging comment about Sherman when he said all he does is talk and will never amount to anything. Sherman… like it or not… saved the day for Seattle with his ability. The 49’ers did everything they could not to throw to him… because he IS that good. After years of being belittled by the two 49’er morons…Sherman got his day and finally had something to say about it all. He had a big monkey to get off his back…. could he have done it better? These guys are professional football players… and in some cases… like Richard Sherman…. damn good ones. They aren’t hired to be perfect or even good orators.

  • John Stanton

Good to know that a few people are the whole world, and it really matters if you like Denver, yes he acted dumb and I know none of you ever did that .And I bet most of you who are all shocked about what he said , played football to.And I know that you were all on the field so you know what was going on the whole time.honestly I didnt understand what he said, had to rewind, but just because your niners lost you are all mad,it was the refs Seattle played dirty anything but ,you just lost.and guess what its a game, life is not over

  • Lou J

Does Stanford recognize he demonstrates the added value of their education! I’ll bet the alumina are very proud to show off the education the school imparted to him!

  • dodgergirl88

I couldn’t believe that interview. It blew me away, shocking really. He should have been a graceful winner, and not done that. I hope he regrets it and he’s most likely embarrassed today. Gotta stay classy in a win. I think Erin Andrews handled it as best she could.

  • Molly

Well it’s not like there wasn’t trash talking going on throughout the whole
game. Sherman just had the microphone on him. Not the best thing to say? Sure.
But come on, it was an intense game….Let’s move on and celebrate the
Seahawks for all they have accomplished and get over this. I am sure
thanking God would have been better, but he is a great competitor and
    Crabtree is no angel.

  • TRONRADIO

I don’t know Sherman, and I don’t care what he said. I do hope the BRONCOS destroy his team, however.

said, “Is that fake? Does that feel fake”? The reporter quickly crawled off camera. Pro athletes are ramped up to warp level
during play and if you get in their face when they are still in that mode, you
get raw emotion. Ask them something an
hour later and you get civility and professionalism in speaking. Leave Sherman alone. He was approached while in raw competition
    mode.

When do pitchers and catchers report?

PPl please, the things that are said on a football field during a game are far worse than anything Mr Sherman said on camera!!Trust me,i know!! Should ALWAYS BE a cool down period before shoving a mic in a players face, especially a game and end play of that magnitude!!
