Rep. Mark Meadows regains chairmanship, will 'continue to vote … in accordance with my conscience'

As Breitbart.com reported earlier this week, North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows was stripped of his subcommittee chairmanship by House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah). Meadows, among more than 30 Republicans who voted against the rule that allowed Congress to move forward on President Obama’s request for fast-track trade authority, told Breitbart he was being punished for “voting his conscience” and standing up to Republican bullying.

Today, though, Meadows was given his chairmanship back. Matthew Lauer, grassroots manager for Heritage Action, pointed to a joint statement by Chaffetz and Meadows.

Chaffetz wrote that, “Having spoken with Mark Meadows several times during the past week, I think we both better understand each other,” while Meadows promised to “continue to vote and conduct myself in accordance with my conscience, what my constituents want me to do, and what is best for the country.”

Keep in mind while reading Politico’s take that the face (and backbone) of today’s House leadership is Speaker John Boehner. So please, defy away.
