CNN has been known to serve up the fake news, but the network pretty much summed up the state of the women’s movement in the U.S. with its recent tweet noting that New York’s “Fearless Girl” statue — part of a marketing promotion by State Street Global Advisors — stood its ground, even during a light snowfall.
The media has pretty much lost what was left of its collective mind over what isn’t much more than a viral advertisement, so it’s nice to see someone give some attention to a real-life female (if you’ll excuse the gender-binary term) who could show quite a few nasty women a thing or two about women’s empowerment.

Yes, the photo on the right is the war propaganda that drove the folks at Deadspin nuts, and the photo on the left is Andria Slough, commander of the USS Porter, which was one of two Navy destroyers that pounded a Syrian airbase with those missiles with the culturally inappropriate name.
The commander who launched Tomahawks at Syria is a woman. Here's her story. https://t.co/KrzOWFdaRJ

Proud of our military. Highly trained and highly professional.

Quite a few wondered why the commander’s gender was newsworthy; let’s just say that at the same time Slough was preparing to strike Syria, Hillary Clinton was being celebrated for calling for air strikes against Syrian air fields at the eighth annual Women in the World Summit, which also highlighted the bravery of Cecile Richards, Samantha Bee, and “global crush” Justin Trudeau.
