Ever since the election, individual reporters have let slip how important it is for the media to start producing some solid “adversarial journalism” again, and Christiane Amanpour tweeted how it was more important than ever for her colleagues to “commit to real reporting.”
The New York Times certainly wasn’t going to be left out of that trend, and columnist Nicholas Kristof said goodbye to 2016 with an entreaty to journalists to be resolve to be less like lap dogs in the coming year and more like watch dogs.
The media should be infused with a renewed sense of mission, writes @NickKristof https://t.co/2X2vUGEKGz pic.twitter.com/LOqHQSSjAB

Funny how this renewed sense of mission only happens when power transfers after an election.

media got exposed as advocates in 2016. Journalism is dead. A "sense of mission" won't win back public trust.
