One reported dead, three injured in shooting near polling place in California; Officers pinned down by gunfire; Update: Shooter found dead

There are reports of a shooting that killed one and wounded three others near a polling station in Azusa, Calif. The shooter is described as “heavily armed.”

The Los Angeles Times reports that nearby schools were locked down after shots were fired sometime after 2 p.m. CNN notes that the shots were not fired inside a polling place, but nearby.

Azusa police Officer Jerry Willison told the Seattle Times that the suspect fired on officers, none of whom were hurt.

After a standoff of several hours, the suspect was found dead, but police are as yet unsure if the gunshot was self-inflicted or fired by a police officer during the standoff.

Authorities said in a press conference streamed on Facebook that they did not believe the shooting was related to the polling place but are otherwise unsure of the motive.
