That didn’t take long. Just minutes after a choked-up Melissa Harris-Perry delivered an on-air apology for mocking Mitt Romney’s adopted black grandson, conversation turned to populism and the Tea Party movement. After acknowledging that the Tea Party stands for lower taxes and smaller government, panelist Katrina Vanden Heuvel just had to bring race into the discussion.

“Let’s be honest,” she begins. “There is a race … racism threaded through the right-wing populism, I mean which is not unusual to American right-wing populism.” Ugh.

As blogger Caleb Howe writes:

Later in the segment, New York Times editorial writer Robert George suggests that racism played its part in both right wing and left wing populism, even calling out the unions, but Vanden Heuvel will have none of it. “Not today though,” she insists. “Not today.”

No, today, the only racists are in the Republican party. Which is the exact sentiment that led to the segment for which host Melissa Harris-Perry only just apologized this morning.

And around we go …

Take away the race card and they’ve got little to argue.
(Also, history is NOT on their side in this.)

    • Antisocial_ism

This is true. Because ‘Blame Bush’ is receding ever farther into the distance as an argument.

      • Al’s Not So Sad Grampa

It goes deeper than blaming Bush. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed because Republicans forced Democrats to accept the provision that any entity that discriminates based on race would not be allowed government funding. That’s a key component that leftists ignore.

Did they get together and say ok you racist dems will now be republicans and we republicans will become the racists dems?

It’s because 1 out of 16 Dixiecrats switched from a Dem to Repub. If you listened to libs you’d think Thurmond was the only Dixiecrat. They conveniently forget Byrd, Gore and the rest. All Dems to their retirement or dying day.

How right you are too Antisocial_ism, what I don’t understand is why doesn’t the only conservative news network, FOX NEWS, show how RAClST BOBOcare is or that this RAClST law is just another form of BOBO’s RAClST pet project, REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH !!!! Who do you all think is going to pay for those 30 MILLION NEW FREELOADERS ( mostly minorities & ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT INVADERS ) whites of course !!! And why not, whites already pay & fund more than 80% of all the other ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS like food stamps, welfare, child credits, social services for ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT INVADERS, etc. !!
That is where the REAL RAClSM is & it is coming from the FLEEBAGGING [email protected] themselves, I believe what the FLEEBAGGERS are doing here is deverting attention from their own RAClSM & projecting it on Republicans !!! I think they think we are stupid or something, saying it 24/7 on the LAME STREAM MEDIA doesn’t work anymore & the FLEEBAGGERS are starting to see this !!

Pointing out to the left that we saved the 64 Civil Rights act, and fathered ALL the previous ones is frustrating, because they utterly refuse to believe it, won’t believe even the Library of Congress or CBS or Time..

Seems they love an easily debunked lie more than a truth they don’t want to believe..

        • camp50

The left also likes to posit the argument that in the aftermath of the Civil Rights Act, Dixiecrats migrated en masse to the Republican Party i.e. the so-called “southern strategy”. In fact, of over two dozen prominent Dixiecrats, only three changed parties – Mills Godwin, Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms.

Blacks might as well exit the womb with a Burlington Coat Factory tattoo on their arm because the left has used them like winter jackets for half a century.

Like the parka, Blacks are used seasonally by Democrats. The left trot ’em out for election season, proceed to offer up yet another cycle of Pavlovian podium promises that continually disappear once November has passed and the cycle of dependence is refreshed. How’s that “War on Poverty” working out for minorities? The left has been fighting THAT one since the 70’s.

As I’ve noted here since literally week one, I was once a Democrat. I left the party a decade ago when it finally dawned on me that the entire party reminded me of my small town doctor 40 years ago. He was actually HAPPY to stitch up a bloody kid because he had nothing else to do all day. Like the doc, they want ’em injured…only in this case, motivationally so.

Democrats, year in and year out, converge in urban areas during election cycles, with the singular purpose to convince Blacks that they are incapable of success because of white conservatives and that which follows is always “we’re Democrats and we’re here to help.”

A profoundly racist sentiment is the declaration which claims to offer hope when in reality, it’s aim is to damage the spirit.

      • Mark81150 Never/Trump/Hillary

I’ve always been a republican.. then conservative.. now, a conservative first since the party has steadfastly ignored or attacked us to appease the media..

I was brought up in a republican household, dad was a career cop, and brutally fair. I never heard a racial slur until I learned what they were in school… My father hated the protestors in the 60’s.. a veteran and cop, he hated disorder and chaos.. But he always called MLK Dr. King, because he was a religious man who respected the clergy, even of other faiths.

Imagine my surprise when as an adult I discovered I was supposed to fit into a little “racist” box the democrats created to win elections by deceit. I’ve never heard racist remarks at work, in school, in the service from anyone but white democrats.. republicans, poor or not, are brought up in the notion that education, achievement matters, and that it’s trailer park to act otherwise. We never had much,… but my parents bought us the classics in western literature, and we learned about the world through those.. it’s the mindset we grow up with..

So now the democrats sell us as the enemy, ignorant Bible thumping hicks and racists, as well as corporate thieves and fatcats who steal from the poor widdle abused democrats… of course that lie is happily repeated on a loop by the left wing media, who have used those ignorant stereotypes to prop up a democrat party moving ever further left..

That is their game…game.plan. Booker T. Washington stated it so well, and if memory serves me correctly, a government class in the 10th grade, we studied him and this is the quote that sticks out there so strongly, at least in this household…

There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs and the hardships of the Negro race before the public.
Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. ~ Booker T. Washington

Reminds me of the Lenny Bruce bit about the white Liberal at the cocktail party who tries to strike up a conversation with a black jazz guitarist performing there, while he’s on a break:

“Hey– that Joe Louis was one helluva fighter, huh?”
    “Wouldn’t know, man, I don’t dig boxing…”

And the conversation goes downhill from there, till it’s abundantly obvious the Liberal is as full of stereotypical thinking as he would insist the other side would be. But then again, Bruce said this about Libs:

“Liberals say they are so understanding of everything– except of people who say they don’t understand Liberals.”

    • Zane Henry

Joan Rivers, whose humor is of course of the “self-loathing” school of schtick, but it’s really personal “self”-“loathing,” i.e., making fun of things about herself and not necessarily projecting it on anyone else. Joan Rivers has many times proclaimed herself not to be a Liberal and has registered as a Republican in the past. She relented just long enough to vote for Obama in 2008 and regretted it not long afterwards, and has referred to the Obama-Romney choice as “disgusting.”

It’s almost as if these people see blacks as pets, something to be taken care of and protected, since they obviously (from their twisted point of view) can’t take care of themselves. It’s such a blatantly patronizing attitude that I really have to wonder how the black community stands for it.

      • H50 ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

You hit the nail on the head. The black community puts up with it because of generations of conditioning and brainwashing. They are starting to rebel against the idea that incompetent idiots who need to be cared for and stuck in crappy lives because they “have no other options”
Its has to come from within the community tho, and slowly but surely those voices are getting louder.

        • dwsmokin

They need to. I’ve said for a while that no nation in the history of this planet has given any citizen-blacks especially-more opportunity than they have right now. From education, transportation, scholarships, grants, etc., it’s out there. And no nation has ever had more successful blacks than we have right here, right now. Not only professionals like Docs, but athletes, entertainers, CEO’s, even the President. It’s there, all they have to do is grab for the brass ring-and make the effort.

          • H50 ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Black successes have been wiped from the history books and most blacks feel very betrayed when they discover this. It is heart breaking to watch.
Project 21 is a wonderful site run by black conservatives for the black community. They not only talk about current issues and how the issues affect their community, but they also publish history lessons of/for the black community.
All the contributors are successful individuals, and the subtext is almost always the only one holding you back is you.

      • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

It’s an outgrowth of “shuckin’-n-jivin’,” i.e., “ackin’ the fool,” when the Man is around, in order to accomplish some purpose that outright standing on one’s own two feet and simply asking for would have got them “whupped” for. The difference is that now, the “S&J” is more along the lines of the Mau-Mau’ing The Flak Catchers variety. It’s telling that the kind of black people someone like Katrina vanden Heuvel is likely to know are practitioners of this. Thus, she and her ilk somehow assume that, at bottom ALL black people are probably like that. “Aww, bless their little cotton socks– the Negroes are actually fighting for Civil Rights! We Libs must lead them– we know they need our help, since they’re so downtrodden, and we’re so wonderfully smart and full of the best intentions!”

      • Michelle ✓classified

But do they really care for and protect black people? Not really, these white elitist couldn’t care less about them. The Left is highly skilled at convincing minorities they are victims, for whatever reason, and that the GOP will put them “back in chains”, but when you look at it – what is the Left REALLY doing for them? They have the highest unemployment rate and Hispanics are the largest group (based on % of population) to use welfare and stay on it the longest. The Left exploits the economic fears of minorities and pretends to really care about them by making them ever-increasingly dependent on the government. It is a sick and twisted cycle.

        • robert anthony

          • OLLPOH ~ OurLifeLiberty

Instead of Clinton going out to the agricultural fields and making statement how beautiful the crops were of rice, etc., he let the workers of those fields know that they deserved more than just working in the fields. So, he passed bills that, if you owned a piece of land and put a house on it that there was a tax for that,
then if you put an out building on it, there was another perpetual tax for that, besides the sales tax at time of purchase,
if you had a trough for your pigs to eat feed out of there was another perpetual tax for that, besides the sales tax at time of purchase,
if you bought any and I repeat any appliance radios, stereo, tv, washer, dryer, there was a “perpetual” tax for each individual appliance besides the sales tax one pays at the time of purchase,
Each and every year a tax assessor would literally show up at your property (notice I said property, and not house) to see what you still had on your property and the appliances, etc. Then you would have to go to the county office and pay the property tax bill on the house, and then you purchased stamps to go in a book for the out buildings, appliances, troughs, etc. This money, then went to the poor and welfare recipients for their existence.
Whether Governor Huckabee and the legislators ever got around to stopping this we have no knowledge of, or the Governors who succeeded him.

(Please accept our apologies if you already have seen these) :

        Joseph Goebbels

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

“Intellectual activity is a danger to the building of character.”

“Whoever can conquer the street will one day conquer the state, for every form of power politics and any dictatorship-run state has its roots in the street.”

“Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.”

“The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly – it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over.”

They don’t need proof – the audience to which they keep telling that lie doesn’t care about proof, facts, evidence, etc. The Left knows all too well – all they have to do is say something is the way they say it is and their base believes without question. This is how the keep the masses under their control.

    • H50 ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Its the big lie, if you say it often enough and loud enough the general population will believe it.
Don’t ascribe logic and morals to folks who’s only purpose is to destroy the opposition by any mean necessary.

  • Michelle ✓classified

Here’s the mistake the media makes over and over and over again. The Tea Party and Conservatives (“the right wing”) are not synonymous. The Tea Party is about and only about 1. Smaller government (that includes fewer taxes) and 2. Strict adherence to the Constitution. Period. That’s it. Nothing more. This is where they share a common denominator with Conservatives, but they do not share an entire platform. Even with ALL of that taken into consideration, neither the Tea Party nor Conservatives are racist! That is a BS lie the Left keeps repeating and repeating and repeating – it is their primary tool to keep low info voters and minorities from seeing the light.

    • $84598387

I have read idiots say things like the TP wants to end abortion and the TP wants to stop homomarriage.

I ask them to show me any TP website that goes after almost any social issue much less those 2. SILENCE is all I ever got back.

      • Michelle ✓classified

And that’s exactly my point about the TP and Conservatives do not share an entire platform. Tea Party members (the ones who are strictly Tea Party and nothing else) believe the matters of abortion and gay marriage have no business in politics or the government. If anything, Tea Party members most closely resemble Libertarians.

        • H50 ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

The TP doesn’t get involved in social issues. Period.
Some of the Christian/TP groups do, but generally in how it affects government intrusion and financial accountability.
Then you have Christian groups that are all about social issues. Period.
Republican and Dem platforms read almost exactly the same, its how you get there that they differ.
          Conservatives are another platform.

My point is that while there is some cross over among all the groups at one issue or another, it matters not to the progs.
They don’t bother to know the difference because in their minds we don’t matter. Period.
If your only purpose is to despise, diminish and divide, who gives a rodents behind?
Thats where they are coming from.

        • conservativemomma

Actually I am a tea party member and I am very concerned about social issues like abortion. Sure I want lower taxes but I more concerned that a country can not survive as a free country if the people abandon basic morals like right to life.

          • Michelle ✓classified

Do you consider yourself a Conservative? It would seem that you do considering your username.

I didn’t mean to cause any confusion and hoped to avoid that when I added the qualifier: the ones who are strictly Tea Party and nothing else.

Personal beliefs of some individuals aside, the Tea Party itself has no opinion on abortion, gay marriage, etc. None. They really truly want the government to not be involved in such things. For more info, this is their exact platform:

          • conservativemomma

The Tea Party is not defined by a certain group. That is the beauty of the movement. Sarah Palin comes to mind when considering early TP politicians and she certainly blends social and economic issues.

Do remember, for one or any of them to acknowledge you, would mean that they are enabling you, that you are now of importance to them. And they will NOT ever acknowledge, ever, because that would mean that they actually viewed you as human and that you really do count, which you or us don’t. Have you ever thought for a moment that you had a real meaning to them? The answer of course is No.

Hey Katrina …. you clueless, self loathing, disingenuous little patsie ….

Your Party has spent the last 175 years obsessing about controlling black people …. this fact is undeniable! So your tireless projection is tedious at best. Please stop trying to be relevant in your Party by telling partisan lies because that tripe and rhetoric actually further harms poor black communities by practically forcing them to take their eye off the ball.

These communities don’t benefit from focusing on imaginary racists on the Right who are told to be the reasons for all of their dysfunction. They need to focus on putting their families first and rooting-out all of the dishonest politicians in their communities but especially all of the pathological liars and deceivers at the very top …. like Nancy, Harry and Dinglebarry! Also, networks who obsess over pushing obscene race, class and gender wars like MSNBC have got to go …. but I digress.

Long story short, Katrina, your Party likes to let the inner-cities and other poor liberal neighborhoods rot from the inside out, content they will keep voting straight ticket for life. You’ll work to gloss over a few symptoms but will never try to solve any problems. And as soon as any Republican makes sensible recommendations, your racist white leaders publicly call us racists …. because maintaining the dysfunctional status quo in those neighborhoods and communities is all y’all care about. Plus, by calling us racists, you further induce Stockholm Syndrome in the precincts you claim to care about thus evilly and deceitfully maintaining their loyalty.

The black writer, Richard Wright (best known for the novel Native Son), and hardly a right-winger, observed during a trip to Africa that the locals where he was (Ghana) seemed to smile for no reason, and it unnerved him a bit, until it was brought to his attention by other Africans that this was their way of showing no particular emotion. His black-American conditioning had taught him that people who are always smiling probably are hiding some malevolence. In other words, he could not believe that there were people who seemed naturally to smile around other people, especially where, as in HIS case– since he would seem to be in the social position ordinarily occupied by a British colonial administrator, i.e, practically a “white man” for all intents and purposes– he would suspect that all they were doing was playing up to him. But after being told, he started at that point to notice that they did it amongst themselves as well, even without reference to him.

He finally had to come to the realization that sometimes a smile is just a smile, and there is no sneer or smirk to it. And this is what Libs find so hard to believe about the Right– sometimes we “smile amongst ourselves,” without reference to them. Unlike Richard Wright, they haven’t yet realized it’s a “cultural thing,” and– what is worse– they have made no attempt to find out whether it is.

I always find it fascinating how democrats claim that conservatives are racist, when in fact it is the other way around. When a democrat sees a black or hispanic person, they see a someone that’s helpless and too stupid to make it on their own. This is why they created a welfare system that is in fact a trap that keeps people in perpetual poverty and the democrats in power, because of course, when you “steal from Peter to pay Paul, you can always count on Paul’s vote”.
Conservatives believe in limited government, the dignity and self reliance of people of all colors; what is racist about that?

Is it racist to call them names in your anger and disgust, even if the names are considered politically incorrect today?
