One person certainly not amused by a fake tweet showing Paris Hilton crediting Nelson Mandela with the “I Have a Dream” speech was Paris Hilton. The tweet was the work of an account called @DeIetedTweets (Deleted spelled with a capital I) that specializes in such Photoshopped celebrity tweets.

https://twitter.com/NathanWurtzel/status/408743865173028864

Hilton’s actual tribute to Nelson Mandela was quite eloquent, actually.

Old history prof of mine used to like to say, “If it didn’t happen, it should have,” or, “If it isn’t true, it should be.”

    • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

John Ford’s Law = “Print the legend.”

      • http://www.jabootu.com/acolytes/bnotes/ Apostic

“Print the legend” I explained the plot of that movie to a young’un last week and we both came to the conclusion that “print the legend” is poetic in a movie but kinda creepy in real life.

    • TJCrane_NCC1701

Kid (in awe): “Is that true ?”

Mr. Nightlinger: “If it isn’t, it oughta be…”

My history prof said it in 1969.

        • TJCrane_NCC1701

          That’s cool.

I just wanted to interject “The Duke” and a great flick in a ’round about way.

    • Chase Crosby

Same thought process that the people committing fake hate crimes against themselves have.

      • http://nailsonblackboards.blogspot.com/ Bernie Candide Gilbert

Not really. He was saying it as a way of saying, “This is an amusing/interesting historical anecdote.” Not, “It’s a justifiable lie because it serves a desirable end.”

        • TJCrane_NCC1701

Bernie, I don’t think that Chase is discrediting what your prof. meant, I think that Chase means that liberals have twisted that common sense and meanings of words into pretzels to attain their goals.

The ends justify the means school of thought kind of thing….;.

As in all of the latest “noose” and “cross burning” incidents have been staged by the aggrieved minorities.

Chase seems to invoke the “lib” interpretation of the idea rather than the true meaning,

          • Chase Crosby

            Yep. Thanks for explaining.

          • http://nailsonblackboards.blogspot.com/ Bernie Candide Gilbert

            Fair enough.

was Dan Rather your history professor?

        :-)

  • bedfordthegreat

To be fair, most Obama supporters thought that those were Mandela’s words.

    • ceili_dancer

But it was ghost written by the One.

    • soxfan4evah

They think those are Obama’s words. In fact there was no history of the spoken word prior to 1/20/2009.

      • E Quilibrate

Ya just gotta love that, although I’m not sure writing, as we know it,
        existed before that time either.

  • therealguyfaux ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

“We all know Paris Hilton is thick, but this is just pushing it… Mistaking Nelson Mandela’s death for Martin Luther.” [sic!]

Or maybe this thicko is mistaking a German religious figure of the 16th C. with a certain Reverend Dr. King of the 20th.

    • Chris

Easy now, they didnt realize junior wasnt just a nickname….

  • H50 ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

So someone else tweeted on her verified Twitter account? Is that the story shes going with? And 87 other idiots re-tweeted or favored her tweet.
The problem is that the tweet sounds just like something she would tweet, based on past tweets and is on a verified account, which requires a whole lot of verification to get that little blue check that verifies its her.

    • Lurker

From what I read, it’s photoshopped

      • H50 ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Then it was a damn good photoshop….

This just in… Francisco Franco is still dead.

      Hey, that’s Generalissimo Francisco Franco.

      • E Quilibrate

Really, I was just beginning plans for his birthday party, Sure glad
you got the news to me before sending out the invitations.

        • Jedd McHead

Correct you are arpy (you, too, spaceycakes) — duly noted. Btw, I just checked and he’s still dead.

          • E Quilibrate

Certainly hope you and others don’t mind keeping this old fart up to date on matters of such importance.

“I just landed off a plane”

You can buy them books and send them to school, but an illiterate airhead is still just a twitter away.

  • TJCrane_NCC1701

Unlike MSNBC, Paris Hilton doesn’t get money from FORCED cable TV subscriptions. There’s only so far that CRAZY can sell in the private sector. Share Holders…..

I’m not throwing myself 100% into this theory (not a follower), but Paris Hilton has mostly kept herself out of the “lime-light” lately.

    Capitalist ?

    • Stephen K

This guy really missed an opportunity – I mean, what has Paris Hilton done lately?

If he had made that fake tweet to be from Meghan McCain, it would have been a lot more believable anyway.

      • soxfan4evah

Hell, Meghan McCain would have taken credit for it anyway.

  • irishgirl91

I (gulp) have caught myself defending PH on a few occasions. She is often vilified and held up as an example of unearned wealth (lucky sperm club). She may indeed be as dumb as a bag of rocks and yes she is an heiress, but she does earn her own money. We may not agree that hosting opening parties and “DJ’ing” is a real job of value, but someone does and she shows up and does it. I totally believed she said it, but that is the power of reputation an the internet. Sex video and social media made her, and it will occasionally bite her sort of flat hiney.

  • bill_a_bob

@angledust I just landed off an airplane & heard the news. . . . “I have a dream that one day I will live in a nation where celebutards will not be judged by their stupid , pinheaded tweets, but by the content of their vacuous character. I have a dream today!”

  • Bristel

And the guy that tweeted about “Martin Luther” was confusing him with “Martin Luther King”, confusion-ception. 😉

There is a Hilton in Paris?
Someone just hijacked my twitter account.

    • Chris

Well…. no I am not even going to go there…. (turn your phrase as badly as you can).

  • Sandy Underpants

Who has the passwords to break into Paris Hilton’s worthless twitter account, just to confirm that she’s a total idiot to make a comment about Nelson Mandela when he died? Is there anyone that doubts Paris Hilton didn’t actually twit this?

    • JamesMc

It’s called a “photoshop”. It’s one of those new fangled internet fads where one takes a “screen cap”, opens it in an “image editor”, then alters the image for the purpose of trickery or tom-foolery.

  • Sakemoto

Some dude named Nelson died in S. Africa tonight.

Forevermore hearing the recorded dulcet tone of his merry laughter will ring poignantly in my ears. The angels are truly blessed to have him amongst their choir.

I truly want to know: how canI tell from the tweets above that the one about MLK and Mandela is fake?

  • http://Twitter.com/jkerrysforehead John Kerry’s Forehead

Paris Hilton isn’t really a dizzy ditz, she just plays one on TV. That ain’t no snark. She is a very intelligent business woman. That being said, I’d like to point out I was fine having not seen or heard about her for many years…then this. Ugh! Let’s just let her fade off the tabloids again, please.

    • Corey Dennison

I’ve read the same thing about her. She, unlike our current occupant of 1600 Penn. ave has actually run a successful business.

  • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

    Paris, I think you should put the B!+C#-SLAP-DOWN on whoever made you look bad by posting this fake tweet. And, how about bringing back “The Simple Life” too, while you’re at it? That’d be cool too… Jawamax 8<{D}

  • E Quilibrate

Paris has coined new phraseology. “I just landed off a plane”. Didn’t we in
the days of yore, simply ‘deplane’?

    • ClarkFL

thought that was off too. Did she suddenly go outside the plane and land just off of it when it landed as well? I like your idea of deplane. Simple.

  • spaceycakes

    that’s so hot.

  • http://stressjudocoaching.yolasite.com/ Rick Carter, Stress Judo Coach

This whole discussion has me in a quandry, because I don’t judge the historical importance of a person until Paris Hilton comments on it. And to find that maybe some comments attributed to her may be false just sends my epistemology into a tailspin. Or vortex or some such impressive sounding word.
