Actress Stacey Dash is helping patriot and actor Gary Sinise spread the word about Suicide Prevention Month, with a special emphasis on veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Sinise, who was recently named an honorary U.S. Marine in recognition of his “selfless service,” encourages service members to take advantage of the Veterans Crisis Line and Twitter followers to get the word out that help is available.

The Veterans Crisis Line has answered more than 890,000 calls and made more than 30,000 life-saving rescues since it was established in 2007.

Suicide is a huge problem in our culture, both for teens and vets. God bless those who try to save people from making the most tragic decision possible.

Agreed, and it’s also nice to see no one being asses about it and just spreading the word to prevent needless deaths.

And the awful pain left in its wake.

        • Pat Van Briggle Kleinmaier

My sincere condolences to you and your family.
There was a rash of teen suicides in my area not long ago. They all chose train tracks. The devastation and heartbreak is unimaginable.

          • Lady 12

The one in my life chose hanging. Yes, it is devastating.

I’m sorry for your lose Ms. Kleinmaier.

Don’t forget the elderly, who are the actually lead the nation in the number of completed suicides. I’m afraid that as the cost of healthcare, food, gas, rent and utilities rises, so will the numbers of our seniors (many of whom are vets) who see suicide as their last and best option.

    • CrossWinds

As this world gets darker, let us bring the light of Jesus Christ to them, who gave His Life for theirs, to give them hope, both in this life, and the one to come…….

      ……1 Corinthians 13:13……..
13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love……..

      …….Jeremiah 29:11……..
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

    This guy doesn’t stop!
    Thank You, Mr. Sinise.

Average number of suicides PER DAY by veterans?

Mr. President, it’s Suicide Prevention Month. Put the bag down for a few days and visit some vets. You just might save a life.

Stacey, you continue to inspire. Well done…and Gary, we’re both vets. You from honors, me for service but you are my brother in arms and you wear your love for the military like a blue ribbon. Semper Fi Marine.

I am very concerned about the VA over-medicating our returning troops and the number of PTSD cases diagnosed now. Are they getting what they need or actually getting the right treatment? It seems the suicide numbers are very high. I wish I knew more about it.

Suicide by government healthcare next month will be a worrying issue

  • Jeremy

They are both great Americans god bless them.

Waiting for the moral-equivalency crew to start beating up on Ms Dash and Mr Sinise, for their seeming to ignore the “very real problem” of all those “poor bullied gay teens” taking their own lives because of something somebody wrote on Facebook, in 3 — 2 –1…

No– I’m not making light of the pain a child’s death causes his/her parents, lest you think I’m some sort of inhuman fiend; of course we should seek to identify the potential for, and prevent, teen suicide at every turn. My point is that some people cannot feel good for someone doing something good for anyone other than those whom those people claim to be interested in.

When I read the original part of this story I thought, “How can liberals possibly spin anything against this?” And then I read your comment and realized, “Oh … yeah … this will be it alright.”

  • spepper

Just had a longtime friend commit suicide at age 55. No military background, but tragic nonetheless.

    • CrossWinds

I am sorry about your friend. ………Surrender your life to Jesus today, if you are not a christian, with a simple prayer. Jesus be merciful to me, a sinner. Come into my life now, and save me from my sins, and fill me with the Holy Spirit. Amen…….

      …….1 Thessalonians 4:13-14……..

13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

This is a worthwhile cause, and it’s great to see good people promoting it. In a world of celebrities tweeting boycotts of pasta or making stupid political statements, it’s refreshing to see celebrities who actually CARE about people.

Gary and Stacy are awesome. Hope they work together sometime, if they haven’t already.

  • Mr_Wrestling_XIII

    God bless both of them!

Please visit my Grandson’s tribute page. My daughter is determined to make a difference.

      Matthew 11:28-29…….

28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

  • Howard Wachtel

Is the suicide rate higher in the USA than in most other countries? I would not think so, but it would be interesting to see the data. If I had to guess I would have thought that China has the highest rate.

    Luke 4:18-19…….

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
    Because He has anointed Me
    To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
    To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Gary Sinise is what us Aussies would call “a good bloke”. I would have a cold beer with him any day. And just when I think Stacey Dash couldn’t be any more wonderful – she is!! She can park her stilletos next to my RM Williams cowboy boots anytime. I know of quite a few people, especially those that live on the land, who have been pushed to suicide and know how distressing it can be for those left behind.

  • Mary123s

God bless Dash and Sinise…(I think) they have very different POV but are willing to work together to help people.

I esp give credit to Sinise, because even though he was against the Iraq War, he was truly supportive of the troops and I don’t think he ever was nasty about the president. True class.
