Why, you might ask, would Iran abandon its ally Syria and side with the United States against Bashar al-Assad? As U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power told the liberal Center for American Progress, “we thought perhaps a shared evidentiary base could convince Russia or Iran — itself a victim of Saddam Hussein’s monstrous chemical weapons attacks in 1987-1988 — to cast loose a regime that was gassing its people.”

In other words, Iran didn’t like it when they were being gassed, so of course they wouldn’t want Syrians being gassed either.

Surprising absolutely no one except Power and her U.N. team, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei sternly warned the U.S. against launching an attack. “The Americans try to play with words and pretend that they’ve become involved in this case for humanitarian aims,” he said. “The Americans are making mistakes in Syria and they have felt the impact and will certainly suffer loss.”

Maybe Power’s speech was some sort of attempt at reverse psychology.

This is what happens when there is a lap dog LAME STREAM MEDIA that doesn’t call BOBO out on all his FAILURES & DEBACLES !!!! BOBO fears no back lash because there will be none from his lap dog media, so he just keeps going making mistake after mistake now he wants to get us in a war just so he isn’t embarrassed, thats INSANE !!!

The best way to stop BOBO in his tracks is ask him Tuesday night when he give his BS State Of The Union Address, if he attacks Syria, how is he going to secure those chemical weapons he has such fake outrage over !!!! You go to Syria lobbing Tomahawk missiles at Syria & you hit any of those chemical weapons, BOBO will kiII more people over there then Assad himself did, thats just plain INSANITY !!! You have to secure those chemical weapons first BOBO, if you don’t then just stay home because all you are really doing with your halfarsed attack is poking the bear !!

  • Roto

Notice that they stuck Susan Rice in a G20 backroom, while they trotted out DEPUTY Nat’l Sec. Advisor Tony Blinken to answer questions on news shows?

  • Socius

Actually she’s right. There’s a good chance that Iran would negotiate and abandon Syria if Assad used chemical weapons.

However….and this is key….there has been no actual evidence and the usage of chemical weapons defies logic.

Russia has said they would support a UNSC resolution for limited attacks if there was proof of Assad using chemical weapons. Iran had said whoever used chemical weapons should be punished. So if this is the case…why hasn’t Obama shared all this “proof” he has? Both of assad’s allies would drop him.

Only logical conclusion is that there is no proof because Assad wasn’t behind the chemical weapon use.

    • Roto

      Ahh, not sure about that…

“In the case of Syria, the chemical attack is a pretext… The Americans try to play with words and pretend that they’ve become involved in this case for humanitarian aims,” [Ayatollah Ali] Khamenei told a meeting of the Assembly of Experts, a state body.

On Wednesday, the head of Iran’s elite Quds force, Qassem Soleimani, told the Assembly of Experts that the Islamic Republic would “support Syria to the end”.

      • Socius

Yes but the question is where the Iranian red line is. Assuming for a moment that you are 100% correct, let’s look at it this way.
Currently, Obama has no credibility. No one believes him. Russia and Iran are playing the “We are absolutely against Chemical weapons” card and telling the entire world that if Assad were using Chemical weapons, they’d support a strike in Russia’s case, and limit/cut support in Iran’s case.
So then…if there is indeed proof that Assad did anything, why not call Iran and Russia on their bluff? That way they would look like untrustworthy (amongst their current supporters), lose credibility, while Obama gained support. Iran and Russia would also have less of a leg to stand on in opposing Obama’s desire to launch a limited aerial bombardment.
Just doesn’t make sense not to show the evidence. Unless there is no evidence. I’m open to either option being true. But I’m not about to make a judgment either way until compelling evidence is brought forth.

        • Winston

There has been substantial evidence of chemical weapons use. The problem is that it is seemingly from both sides, so Russia can shout that the rebels did it and muddy the circumstances enough to create at least a pretext to oppose any action.

That said, what possible proof do you have that the regime in Iran gives a damn how many people Assad kills or the means he uses to do so? The naivety boggles the mind. Just a wholesale refusal to appreciate that government’s like Iran are not reasonable nor trustworthy. This administration failed to support the Green revolution on the theory that it could do business with Iran’s current leaders. This is just another example of that delusion.

  • Sinjun

I think i could see how they could possibly pull it off.. offer to eliminate both Assad and the rebels and then offer Syria to Iran on a plate.

The utter naivety , inexperience and outright stupidity in world politics never ceases to amaze me of the Obama /Admin, it has absolutely no idea as to the fact the Iranian Islamic regime would slaughter every last American then have a halal McDonalds meal afterwards and a game of back gammon without loosing sleep. The fact this inexperience leftist Islamophile un ambassador would even think this is an acute embarrassment to the u.s. Maybe she thought Assad could be persuaded to resign as well.

Well, let’s be fair. Team Obama has been kicking Britain and Israel to the curb for five years, so they probably thought that was standard practice for every government.

By the way, I think this clip sums up Team Obama’s Syria policy more coherently than Obama, Power or anyone else in the “brain trust” can:

I don’t like using “liberalism” as description comma but the Administration are playing a fool’s game. There needs to be some realism introduced in this current situation. There’s no reason why American military needs to get involved when we have a friend named Israel that is very capable of doing the job. Lets give Israel the tools needed to get the job done.

  • liber_TEE_4ev_R

Foreign policy is a giant, complicated game of chess, requiring the planning of dozens of moves AHEAD along multiple decision trees. The fact that we have come to this point, “duhhhh, Bomb Syria or not? Wha-chu tink???” as if they were deciding to have dinner in or out tonight makes the U.S. look like a colossal numb-skull on the world stage. This administration and its Democratic supporters and media lackeys cannot see the forest from the trees (and doubtful they can even see the forest). Absolutely no coalition-building, no strategy, no emphatic signaling of action, and therefore no credibility. Only projection of weakness and incompetence. Couldn’t even get our most trusted ally, Britain, on board. A real administration (like Reagan or HW Bush) and State Department would have prevented this scenario from even happening. Hell, even the interns working at the State Department in 1986 could have done better than this current administration. What a joke our leaders, and by reflection, America has become. Sad, so very sad.

It’s not a coincidence that Obama is trying to act in Syria with Power in the UN slot. She invented the ridiculous “responsibility to protect” policy that Obama is now acting on. These people are all part of the Alinsky, Cloward-Pivin, one world mindset. It is a simplistic and childish approach to a very complicated situation. The only reason the administration went to congress is to fade the heat.

    • Roto

And the sad fact is that this whole situation was spawned by Obama making another stupid comment without his teleprompter….

  • cristo52

Well, Power, Rice and Clinton demanded the Libra intervention and we see now what mess these tres amigas left there. Obama is getting some pretty bad advice from the girls, and so he does what any American man would do, go play golf. It’s obvious the United States is rudderless, has no leadership, and little hope for the next three years. Question is, are there any adults of a responsible nature in Washington, and if so, will they stand up and guide this country to a better day?

I honestly believe she thinks that the only reason there is no peace in the Middle East is because Israel is the unreasonable one and that the US just hasn’t sided with the right people. (Disclaimer: No puppies (or kids) were injured during the making of this comment. Any similarities to persons living, dead, or imaginary, is purely coincidental [except the clown, which bears a striking resemblance to the subject of the above article].)

This perception should not come as a surprise. The basis of our president’s foreign policy strategy was his presence and his charisma. He honestly and truly thought that just him “being” the POTUS would bring serenity to the Middle East and the rest of the world. Much the same way the idiots who voted for him believed his “being” would solve all of America’s domestic woes. Why wouldn’t they believe they could convince Iran to abandon Syria?

On a side note, I normally would not venture down this path, but if this woman is going to spend a lot of time in front of America and the world, she needs to visit the makeup counter at her favorite department store. The “natural” look is not getting it done for her.
