Former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert B. Reich teaches at Berkeley now, but he never seems to get tired of being taken to school by his Twitter followers, who just aren’t content being told how little they know by a man of Reich’s intellectual stature. Today’s lesson? Only a moron would think that the federal budget is anything at all like a household budget. Ordinary folks who can’t legally print their own money at will agree that, yes, the two are nothing alike — and that’s a bad thing. After all, there’s no law that says a family needs to create a budget, right?

See? You people just don’t get it.

…or exist, for that matter.

So, what is the difference? We hunger for knowledge.

We think you have to sign up for Reich’s class at Berkeley to hear the details; until then, please enjoy this CD of cricket sounds. Or this tweet where Reich teaches the finer points of Constitutional government.

Ignore the law when it doesn’t suit him? Why didn’t Reich’s buddy “O” think of that earlier?

“ignore the debt ceiling”? Why not they have ignored the requirement for a budget since he has taken office… and no one has been called on it!

    • SineWaveII

Excellent point. I am having trouble dealing with this idea that there’s a “debt ceiling” when in fact there is no budget. With no budget how do we know where the debt ceiling is? How do we know what Obama spent the difference between now and the last DC increase on? In fact how do we know anything about the spending with no budget?

  • traffic_robot

Wow, just ignore the problem, and let others get dirty fixing the mess? Sounds like leadership to me.

Let’s get an opinion from Greece.

  • Noelle C Campbell

Ah! So what is different about the budget of a family household is that they can’t IGNORE their budget!!! I GOT IT!

  • peteee363

yep, i know nothing! the bank laughed at me when i asked to get a loan to purchase a home. i only wanted to buy a home double my annual income. so uncle sam takes in 2.7 trillion, and is in debt 16.5 trillion, who’s laughing now?

Can I max out all my credit cards and then pay them off with a single coin I made in the garage….?

  • GaryTheBrave

Maybe I should see if Reich’s class is offered on iTunes U. Naaahhhh!

  • Catchance

Robert Reich is a super genius and you should listen to him… said nobody, ever.

  • Greg Greenlee

    Like our President!

  • wallwatchman

Yes, believe me, we know the two aren’t the same. The gov gets to screw up my budget by taking more of my money because they don’t bother with even having a budget! Hey, send me that money printer when you get done. Gonna need it over here soon.

  • stuckinIL4now

So does this mean we can all setup our own coin minters and money printers in the spare bedroom or basement? I gotta mint me some of those $1,000,000,000,000 coins.

  • George Washington Mclintock

Really? So, it’s cool to spend more money than you have if you’re running a household or a country? No negative consequences for your personal finances, or the national economy? Yeah, I guess our credit got downgraded cause Obama is black. Berkeley and it’s distinguished university of halfwits should be fenced off from society.

In my household I don’t spend all my leftover money at the end of the fiscal year to prevent myself from losing it and not getting that amount in my next years budget. When it comes to money, the government is dumber than a box of rocks and promotes waste.

Poor Reich. He still hasn’t learned that in the big leagues you can’t win by playing small balls.

  • TocksNedlog

Incredible. This man, who — unlike Barack Obama — is an actual college professor, and a graduate of Yale Law School, is (unsolicited) advising the President of the United States to disregard the Constitution and the Legislative Branch of government in order to spend whatever he thinks is necessary; AND, if they complain about it he wants the president to say, “So sue me!”

Clueless pugs disdain intellect and so attack the intelligent as “stupid”. Way to project, thugs!

…and that my friends is why we are in such a mess. When this all goes wrong and it will at some point remember guys like Reich. They need to know there are consequences to there lies and stupidity. Ask Greek, Spanish, or Irish citizens what they think of Reich economics.
