With an ABC News interview set to air Tuesday evening, Rep. Paul Ryan is taking his first steps back into the national spotlight, and many are hoping the former vice presidential candidate will stay there. Dissatisfaction with the GOP establishment is high as conservatives ponder a second Obama term, and many are convinced House Speaker John Boehner is not the person to counter the president’s ambitions. Is Speaker of the House where Ryan belongs for now?

While plenty of Republicans were dispirited after Election Day, the idea of a Ryan-led House has many fired up and ready to go again. But will the petitions and retweets lead to change, or is this another setup for yet another disappointing repeat?

PLEASE PUT PAUL RYAN IN AS SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE! John boehner does not have our best interests at heart. He is weak and NOT a fiscal conservative.

  • Correycon

If there is any hope for the Republican party, if there is any hope for these United States, it is Speaker of the House PAUL RYAN. Let’s do it!

    • http://twitter.com/hamybear Michael Hampton

But two years ago, Boehner was going to save the United States? What happened? Just because he wan’t to actually work with democrats and get some of these problems solved instead of serving himself and the hate of half the country. Wow.

contact your house members and let them know you want ryan as speaker as they are the ones who can make the decision

Thats a good idea. I’ll contact Eric Paulson!

  • no_more_deceit

Boehner has no spine, Ryan for Speaker.

  • Donna

Out of all of the Rep. I would love Rand Paul to be Speaker.

    • DeeDeeTX

Rand Paul can’t be Speaker. He’s a senator, not a representative.

      • Donna

Your right, I forgot I just think he would be great how we use him. The young people will will listen like they did to Ron Paul. Look at the crowds DR. Paul got for young people, they were sitting in the trees. The R party has to come together, not push the tea party away.

        • Penmar

But he could be minority leader instead of Mitch McConnell. He would kick some butt.

      • TomJB

Actually, the Speaker does not have to be a member of the House, although it always has been. I imagine House members would not wish to cede any power from their house to the Senate by electing a Senator as their Speaker.

  • blueniner

SARAH PALIN for Speaker of The House…….she would kick ass, and fumigate the corrupt crony bacteria that prevails in that flacid chamber!

    • http://twitter.com/starg8rocks Vanessa Rumrey

Cept she’s not even in the house…

      • Garym

The Constitution does not require the speaker to be an elected member of the house. Anyone can be nominated and if they have enough votes from the majority, they can be speaker. It has never happened though.

    • http://twitter.com/hamybear Michael Hampton

Um…she is not a public servant anymore. Not that she ever was one. She serves herself.

      • Garym

        Oh looky, a tolerant lefty.

Paul Ryan, the wonder brat who could not even deliver his state, Wisconsin, for the ticket, is no conservative leader.
During the Bush years, Ryan voted for every extravagant spending bill that Bush wanted. Then when the Tea Party grew powerful, Ryan suddenly found his cojones and turned fiscally conservative. But with the Tea Party ascendant, even Romney turned conservative.
No wonder Romney chose Ryan, birds of a feather flip-flop together.
    .

    • TomJB

Wow, I can’t imagine the opinion you must hold of Al Gore, who couldn’t even carry his own state when he was at the top of the ticket. Even Mondale carried his home state!

      • http://twitter.com/hamybear Michael Hampton

Ryan didn’t even carry his home town.

        • http://twitter.com/CDChambers62 Chris Chambers

The downside of Ryan on the ticket (I liked him on the ticket, and like him still) was he had never been tested on a state ticket in his home state. However, he is still a strong candidate for Speaker.
(There are many conservatives that voted for previoous spending bills, and I think they all regret it. Or if they don’t, they will.)

Ant to blow their minds, nominate Newt. The W H will explode.

    • http://twitter.com/hamybear Michael Hampton

With laughter maybe. Yeah! Put old Newt back in congress after he was run out on a rail last time. Good. Please do that.

Cmon folks. Think this through. Speaker must also be a congressman. Ryan would be good.

    • StandProudNow

No. The Speaker does not need to be a member of Congress.

  • Teritd

I don’t know how tough Ryan would be. He was not tough enough on obama during the election. I don’t know who of the old guys would be tough enough. Now Allen West would be awesome. Tough as nails. That’s who we need. I hope he can hold on to his seat. I pray to God.

    • Pater Tempus

      Teritd:

Sorry(not so much)to inform you, but God has rained on that parade too. His opponent was certified the winner this weekend. West is just grandstanding…..

      • TomJB

There is no requirement for Speaker of the House to be a current sitting House member.

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

Paul Ryan has actually contradicted Obama to his face.

  • Flarkie

Last Wednesday morning, the day after the election, I posted a Ryan for Speaker post on Facebook and my blog. Glad to see others feel the same way. Boehner needs to retire along with many of the other “old hat” Republicans who have held the party back for years.

  • http://pinterest.com/j0s1395/ Josephine (D)

Boehner has no spine, much less balls. Put a strong man(literally) in his place as Speaker! Ryan actually has a brain as well.

    • John Smith

Boehner wasn’t the one who lost this year. Stop throwing him under the bus!

  • Penmar

I contacted my representative and requested he ask or nominate Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House.

  • edward cropper

John Boehner is a wimp and doesn’t have the courage to really stand up to Obama. But you must remember Washington is not a city of courage but compromise and good ole boy back slappers. These weasels are only concerned in protecting the status quo and keeping their gravy bowl overflowing. It seems the American voter will never understand this

As a slap in Ryan’s face, his hometown finally added domestic benefits for non-married couples.

Which isn’t really saying much @twitter-18085291:disqus because you can list anyone you want on your health insurance, life insurance and pension/401 K. There’s no need for states to pass or add domestic benefits for non married couples and you can thank heterosexual domestic partnerships for that.

      • http://twitter.com/hamybear Michael Hampton

Then why did they pass it? Why was there such a fight in San Antonio over it? Why did Paul Ryan himself denounce it?

        • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

Because everyone wants to feel politically correct. Because people sometimes place things on ballets that are not needed. Because some people don’t know all of the facts about benefits for spouses and domestic partnerships. Maybe Paul Ryan denounced it because he knows its redundant. Having knowledge of what’s already allowable by law benefits everyone that’s in a domestic partnership.

PS There wasn’t “such a fight in San Antonio” about it. It was examined because of the city’s budget, which was a non issue for them because adding dependents to someone’s medical insurance is the same price. It doesn’t go up because of who your domestic partner is.

Very appropriate, I think, since Ryan once campaigned for Boehner in college.

If you want a person to stand up for conservative principals and RELENTLESS REFORM then the only person with a spine of steel is SARAH PALIN for SPEAKER. The question is does she want to deal with all the backstabbing thieves in D.C.

  • http://twitter.com/RemoveFromPower Oldfox

Time for the “good ole boys” club to disband. New blood is needed in the leadership, and that leader is Paul Ryan for Speaker!

  • Lar5

How could Paul Ryan ever be considered as a possible presidential candidate or speaker of the house when he is completely ignorant about the make up of this country. Paul, 79% of the population
of this country lives in urban areas. You have to try remember this fact. Yes! 79% Does that come as a surprise?
Paul, it’s arithmetic. You know the stuff you learned in public school. By the way, urban areas are inhabited not only by black people but whites, Asians, Latinos,Jews, Christians, agnostics, atheists, straights and gays and every other type of citizens. Now you know!

  • John Galt

    YES WE CAN!

News: Writing angry Tweets in ALL CAPS does not result in your wish being granted. Another slap-in-the-face wake up call for Republicans to face reality.

Extremists are excellent obstructionists but make for terrible politicians and most Americans want the elected representatives to get busy and start solving problems that our country faces.
