It’s been a minute since we last checked in on Elon Musk. We’ve been waiting to see how the whole Twitter-buyout-trial would play out.
But Elon’s sharing some thoughts about Putin’s war against Ukraine today, and we feel like we should cover them. So, without further ado, here they are:
Ukraine-Russia Peace:
– Redo elections of annexed regions under UN supervision. Russia leaves if that is will of the people.
– Crimea formally part of Russia, as it has been since 1783 (until Khrushchev’s mistake).
– Water supply to Crimea assured.
– Ukraine remains neutral.

He’s framing it as a poll? Interesting.
This is highly likely to be the outcome in the end – just a question of how many die before then
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 3, 2022
Also worth noting that a possible, albeit unlikely, outcome from this conflict is nuclear war
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 3, 2022
Anyway, his poll won’t end until tomorrow. But based on some of the responses Musk is getting so far, he may have found a way to alienate even more people, including those who have defended him on other issues.
This is… not good https://t.co/dMzq6UPJCu

It doesn’t sound good.
There is no referendum to be had, because Russia commitred war crimes by deporting people against their will, @elonmusk .
— Pradheep J. Shanker (@Neoavatara) October 3, 2022
Russia will have to post reparations at this point.
As for Crimea… Ukraine has more claim there than Russia had on Donetsk.
— Pradheep J. Shanker (@Neoavatara) October 3, 2022
As for neutrality, I don't see how that's possible anymore.

The fact is Russia had permanently changed the equation… Negatively.
For example, if Europe doesn't server energy ties with Russia, they are idiots.

To be fair, Musk didn’t explicitly say his scenario is the one he prefers. But a good number of people seem to be interpreting it as if he did.
Elon, man. Seems like you have missed a lot history lessons while concentrating on space and e-cars. Your proposals sound much like putin’s. Hope you did not mean it that way.
— Serhiy Prytula (@serhiyprytula) October 3, 2022
Hope so.
Elon, you’re a cool guy and thanks for the Starlink but it’d be so very wonderful if you were to carry out votes on things that you know about. We don’t carry out votes on apartheid and Nelson Mandela.

That does seem to be what Musk has done. Here’s how Ukraine’s Ambassador to Germany, Andrij Melnyk, responded:
That’s probably about as diplomatic a reply as Musk is going to get from a Ukrainian official.
An actual Ukrainian diplomat sums up what seems to be the Ukrainian view of Musk’s proposal for an end to the war 👇 https://t.co/RI7B0lfkWw

At first I wanted to write something intelligent @elonmusk but that is the best answer https://t.co/qSw07a4RUj
— Horga 🏳️🌈💙💛 (@Hohorga) October 3, 2022
The disonesty of a) making a proposal then b) stating that it is gonna happen anyway and c) threatening nuclear holocaust for the alternative leaves @MelnykAndrij 's answer as the only correct one. https://t.co/XGiYcOPQDI

Anyway, there’s an important lesson to be learned from this:

Update:
Seems like Elon Musk is trying to cushion the blow of the backlash a little bit:
Let’s try this then: the will of the people who live in the Donbas & Crimea should decide whether they’re part of Russia or Ukraine
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 3, 2022
And then what, Elon?
