'Mess With One of Us, Mess With All of Us': NY Fans Unite to Cheer America — and Jeer Protester

For people too young to remember 9/11, we understand how difficult it can be to believe how united America was in the aftermath of the terrorist attack. Given our current political climate 25 years later, it's almost impossible to believe that we could unite about anything.

But that unity was real, and it was palpable, especially in New York City. It was so tangible that director Sam Raimi even added a scene to demonstrate it in his first Spider-Man movie, which came out in 2002. The movie had already wrapped filming in June 2001, but after 9/11, Raimi reshot the bridge rescue scene as a tribute to New Yorkers. 

"You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us." 

That was real. 

The last scene in the movie, with Spider-Man swinging up to and grasping an American flag, was also added as a tribute to that unity. 

In 2026, it's tempting to say that the America of September 11, 2001, doesn't exist anymore, particularly after New York City elected Zohran Mamdani, who openly disrespects the victims of the 9/11 attacks while extolling Islam. 

But every once in a while, REAL New Yorkers remind us that we can get that America back. 

Last night, the New York Yankees and the New York Mets — with two fan bases who really don't like each other — played each other at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. The pre-game ceremonies included tributes to the NYFD and NYPD, appearances by members of the 2001 Yankees such as Derek Jeter, and, of course, Lee Greenwood. 

At the top of the 7th inning in the game, however, at exactly 9:11 PM, one protester decided to try to insult New York and America by running onto the field waving a Palestinian flag.

What happened next was vintage New York and perhaps a sign that it might one day reclaim its status as the greatest city on Earth.

Just like with the Green Goblin in the Spider-Man movie, the fans pelted the anti-American protester with beer cans and other debris while uniting in a rousing chant of "U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!"

Of course, there were many other — ahem — choice comments. 

We also appreciated the "Go back to where you came from" comment ... and a few others we cannot repeat here.

Now, THAT would have been a just punishment. 

Even if he is a U.S. citizen, Secretary of State Marco Rubio could begin denaturalization proceedings immediately. 

We could probably get the SAVE America Act passed in — pardon the expression — a New York minute. 

They absolutely should. 

That's something we can ALL agree upon. Even Army and Navy fans.

We always have to remind ourselves that a majority of native New Yorkers voted against Mamdani. He was elected purely on the strength of the immigrant vote (legal or otherwise), and gullible young white leftist women. 

But as Mayor Mamdani, Governor Kathy Hochul, and other New York politicians like AOC and Hakeem Jeffries try to destroy the city, state, and America, Yankees and Mets fans provided a great reminder that we CAN unite again, even if just for one night.
