Landlords Ban Work-from-Home Tenants: Because Using the Place You Rent Is Apparently Too Expensive

Twitter

I am generally on the side of landlords. I don't like all the nonsense Zohran Mamdani is pulling in New York to make life more difficult for landlords. It's unfair and unAmerican. On the other hand, some landlords deserve the bad rap.

I saw this post today and found it quite weird. Why would a landlord care if someone works from home? Wouldn't they actually prefer that? Someone is at their property more often protecting it from burglary, for example.

I'm baffled.

So, all of us are in the comments, not sure what is going on.

Then, a couple of landlords started weighing in.

So, when a tenant is home more often, they recognize more things that may be wrong in the home and correctly ask the landlord to fix them? This is not a reason. Landlords should maintain the property.

Now, listen. If someone is paying you rent for 365 days, they are entitled to be in the property for every hour of that 365 day time. What if it's a family and one person goes to work and the other stays home with a child all day? That's the same use as a stay at home Mom.

Listen, don't give them any ideas.

Some people are not meant to be landlords.

Heaven forbid people use the property they are paying to use. What if a couple are shift workers? One works night shift and the other day shift? They work outside the home, but there will always be someone home.

This is fair. If someone is running an actual business requiring customers to visit them, that is a different story. If a person works from home entering data for a company, a landlord has no right to know that as long as the tenant has acceptable credit and pay stubs.

Democrats are already doing their best to give landlords a bad name. Landlords like this are providing Exhibit A.
