SCOTUS Takes on Trump's Birthright Citizenship Crackdown: A Battle Over the 14th Amendment's Core Promise

Today, the Supreme Court decided it will take up the challenge to Trump's birthright citizenship order. 

Basically, many believe the 14th Amendment declares anyone born on American soil is automatically a citizen no matter the status of their parents. Initially, this amendment protected the children of freed slaves. Now, it's being taken advantage of by illegals.

Governor Ron DeSantis disagrees. 

The U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) agreed on Friday to decide the constitutionality of President Donald Trump's executive order that seeks to end birthright citizenship, which would deny citizenship to children born in the U.S. to parents who are in the country illegally or on a temporary basis. This case is a challenge to the Constitution's 14th Amendment's Citizenship Clause, which states that all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States, language that was included after the Civil War to ensure that Black former slaves and their children were recognized as citizens. The Trump administration argues that the phrase "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" means citizenship is granted only to children whose primary allegiance is to the United States, including citizens and permanent residents. Challengers point to a 1898 SCOTUS case, United States v. Wong Kim Ark, as precedent.

This will determine if the Supreme Court will affirm the 1898 precedent setting case. This will be major. 

If our country ended birthright citizenship, it would take care of an extraordinary amount of law breaking. The incentive would be removed. 

He can take a nap for the next three years and that will be just fine.

In other words, just because you happen to give birth in America doesn't grant your new baby the right to American citizenship. That just makes sense. 

If Trump were to achieve these goals while also overturning the legal right to abortion, he would undoubtedly be remembered as the president who preserved America's unity amid intense efforts by progressive forces to divide and destabilize the nation.
