The official portrait of outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was unveiled at the U.S. Capitol yesterday, and former Republican House Speaker John Boehner was on hand — and guess who got a little weepy while reminding Pelosi that his daughters are apparently Democrats and fans of hers:
Former House Speaker John Boehner paid a tearful tribute to Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday at the unveiling of her official portrait in the U.S. Capitol.
[…]
“You’ve been incredibly effective as the leader of your caucus. The younger generation today has a saying: ‘Game recognizes game.’ The fact of the matter is no other speaker of the House in the modern era — Republican or Democrat — has wielded the gavel with such authority or with such consistent results,” Boehner said, calling Pelosi “one tough cookie.”“My girls told me, ‘Tell the speaker how much we admire her,’” Boehner said, choking back tears as he spoke.
On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” show, Joe Scarborough had some words for critics of Boehner (for example, Ben Shapiro called it a “good summation of Republican leadership over the past couple decades”). And that’s correct. As Shapiro pointed out, can you imagine the tables being turned and Pelosi crying at the unveiling of a Republican’s portrait while reminding the GOPer that her kids are big admirers? Nope.
What it boiled down to for Scarborough though is that there’s nothing wrong with showing respect for a colleague:
Watch:.@JoeNBC: "Republicans used to do what John Boehner did when they didn't lose elections every year— There's nothing wrong with being nice and respectful to people you work with." https://t.co/8XaUN23DdH

Again, those rules don’t seem to apply to Pelosi, who has been nothing but vicious to many Republicans.
Pelosi has called Republicans “domestic enemies to our voting system,” and so much more. Pelosi has been a demagogue her entire political career and never thinks twice before smearing and sliming anybody who dares to stand in the way of the Left’s agenda.
So pardon me if I don’t nod in agreement when a Republican like Boehner is praised for taking the “high road” by people saying there should be more of that from politicians — but only from the ones on the Right.
Meanwhile, the “more politicians should be like Boehner and take the high road” crowd were the ones who applauded the loudest at moments like this:
