As Twitchy reported a couple of weeks ago, activist group GLADD came after the New York Times for its “irresponsible, biased coverage of transgender people” and demanded that the Times hire trans people as full-time writers and editors. You see, the Times had slipped up by publishing a piece about whether educators should tell parents when they’re transitioning their children at school … trying to “both sides” what is clearly good and evil.
Immediately after, a bunch of New York Times contributors sent the Times a letter of their own echoing GLAAD’s. Here’s CBS News’ totally unbiased former “abortion access” reporter and now full-time abortion activist:
Some of the NYT's recent trans coverage has really reminded me of abortion coverage at its worst, the "just asking questions" style and valuing the comments of doctors and medical professional equally with anti-trans activists.

Prospect managing editor Ryan Cooper did a podcast on the controversy:
ICYMI: we got @RottenInDenmark and @assignedmedia on to talk about the NYT-fueled transphobia panic https://t.co/2YfJ94mUTQ

Hold up …
quick note on this, I deleted a tweet that wrongly implied we looked at some policy changes in Finland and Sweden. those places made it somewhat harder for children to get transition treatment https://t.co/CILMZu1uOc

And then he limited replies.
from the outside it looks very much like they are experiencing the same moral panic as in the UK and US, but that's beside the point of the episode. our subject was the ongoing political assault on *all* trans people, adults included
— ryan cooper (@ryanlcooper) February 24, 2023
anyway my observation here is that when you make clear arguments like this the transphobes always try to switch to some obscure technical thing to either trip you up or try to make you look squirrelly
— ryan cooper (@ryanlcooper) February 24, 2023
“… some obscure technical thing.”
but I've got work to do, and there aren't enough hours in the day to patiently respond to terfs who shout abuse at you and then act all wounded when you respond in kind. it's annoying and pointless
— ryan cooper (@ryanlcooper) February 24, 2023
Jesse Singal, a legitimate journalist who focuses on trans issues, weighed in:
"Our bad — we forgot to check if there's any high-quality evidence going against the position we confidently expressed in our podcast. Plus, you know, if there is… it's probably TERFs' fault."
This is excellent journalism. pic.twitter.com/7gHlbe6bBI

2/ Some "obscure technical thing" like what the scientific evidence produced by nationalized healthcare systems says. I'd be less frustrated at the sheer ignorance and hackery on display if it weren't married to such ardent attempts to ruin less lazy journalists' reputations pic.twitter.com/CmQT1QH0vu

That guy is hilarious.
— jimtreacher.substack.com (@jtLOL) February 25, 2023
Yes, "obscure technical things" like pointing out the total lack of evidence for their claims.
— Colin Wright (@SwipeWright) February 25, 2023
Always trying to trip you up with obscure technical things like the actual policies of major medical bodies in several countries
— Finnegans Take (@LittleMammith) February 25, 2023
Journamalism.
— First Approximation 🌐 (@Approximation_1) February 25, 2023
I deleted a tweet because it can only be defended if it isn't quoted directly.
— strangehours (@dugmartsch) February 25, 2023
this is the issue with a lot of “movements” in the last decade: the refusal to even engage with the possibility that the other side of an argument may be correct or even have merit
— Gene Parmesan (@dsonoiki) February 25, 2023
Obscure technical things = data
— Tim (@timbuc) February 25, 2023
I'd love to know how you discern "moral panic" from the dry language of policy changes.
— Ollie (@Ollie_Bun) February 25, 2023
Entire nations in Europe are revisiting their policies on providing “gender-affirming care” to minors after studying the issue for a decade.
'some obscure technical thing' like the thoroughly-researched positions of liberal democracies

The people claiming to care the most about these kids, are the least scrupulous. 🤔
— Samson (@LogicalAtrophy) February 25, 2023
Wait – moral panics are BAD now? From 2016 to 2021 they were basically compulsory.
— Brett Arends, ChFC (@BrettArends) February 25, 2023
How is Finland "experiencing the same moral panic" when our policy has been like this since the year 2020? Much earlier than shutting down the Tavistock etc.
— M.Lindell (@MLindell7) February 25, 2023
Right. It’s the “terfs” who shout people down with abuse instead of engaging in reasoned debate. 🤨

Ad hominem is the highest form of rhetoric
If someone demonstrates why you're objectively wrong, just call them a name and then it doesnt count!
— Doug (@RockDocDoug) February 25, 2023
He blocked me for asking for a time stamp in the podcast I could hear his discussion of this.
— Normacillin PRN דוד 🕎 (@squirrel_Jew) February 25, 2023
But he does not that it’s his most-listened-to podcast yet! Maybe that’s because a bunch of TERFs heard about it spoiling for a fight.
