As Twitchy reported earlier Wednesday, The Atlantic’s Jemele Hill raised quite a few eyebrows with a tweet posted during President Trump’s State of the Union address. She’s since deleted it, but it read, “Nah, she gotta yell: GETCHO HAND OUT MY POCKET” — she being Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the quote being a reference to the assassination of Malcolm X.
The joke here is that AOC should have participated in the assassination of the president https://t.co/p6YQiiLdLe

You see, Ocasio-Cortez should have shouted out, “GETCHO HAND OUT MY POCKET,” thereby distracting the president’s security detail and leaving him vulnerable to being shot … or something like that. The assumption is absurd, or so we’re being told.
Let me be clear: I have often disagreed with many of the president’s policies, his behavior and rhetoric, but I would never call for violence against him, or any person. I apologize for breathing life into such an absurd assumption.

Did you ever notice the effect of someone starting out by saying, “Let me be clear”?
Would have been easier to type “damn, more people got that reference than I expected”
— Jessica Fletcher (@heckyessica) February 7, 2019
“Absurd assumption “? @jemelehill made the reference, and now blames others for understanding it.

I believe you! Who among us hasn't made an obvious and very specific reference to an assassination while referring to an elected official? I look forward to your next column, "Sic Semper Tyrannis: An Everyday Guide to Latin"

Teachable moment for me but not for thee. Great to know.

Clarification not needed. We know no one plays around w/ that cause US Secret Service does not play.

That *beep* *beep* you hear is the LOUD backup. https://t.co/uZXTknQOe3

Your flailing is hilarious: half the reactions to your original tweet was "oh snap, we know what you're talking about and it's so edgy, here's a wink" and the other half was "oh no you are soooo going to get misinterpreted"

I trust you enough to know that that's not what you were going for. But as a black columnist, my mind immediately goes to the worst possible take somebody can make. So I shuddered when I considered the responses you'd get.
— Jarvis DeBerry (@jarvisdeberry) February 7, 2019
Then what was she going for? What does it mean?
— Currently between fraudulent suspensions (@jtLOL) February 7, 2019
You still haven’t explained what you meant with the reference.
So, let me ask… What did you mean? https://t.co/8DNExuAg20

Think. Pause Before you speak. Always a good policy.

It was an absurd and reckless tweet. Don’t blame it on a misinterpretation. It’s your fault.

My monthly apologies to keep my job tweet. At least own your hate. pic.twitter.com/43RxHke7NJ

When I hear apologies for the Obama effigies on fire and in a noose, I might consider the reasonability of calling on you to apologize……(*crickets*)
— M K (@MK_twopointoh) February 7, 2019
Yeah, thank goodness that rodeo clown lost his job for wearing an Obama Halloween mask. Unforgivable.
You knew. Everyone knew.
