St. Louis Tea Party Coalition lends help to Ferguson business looted last year, again this weekend

The St. Louis Tea Party Coalition is once again offering its help to the owner of the 911 Hair Salon in Ferguson, Mo., which was looted during last year’s Michael Brown protests and struck again Sunday night.

Here’s a photo of the shop Sunday night, taken by St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Paul Hampel just before he was beaten, kicked in the head and robbed of his wallet and phone. Note the “We Must Stop Killing Each Other” sign in the window.

The Daily Signal reports that after last year’s break-in and looting, a group called the St. Louis Tea Party Coalition stepped up to help owner Dellena Jones and other small business owners rebuild in an effort to show that it’s safe to shop in the city.

“It’s one thing after another,” Dottie McKenna Bailey, a member of the St. Louis Tea Party Coalition, told The Daily Signal. “Literally, she’s in the wrong spot at the wrong time.”

“I was thinking yesterday,” Bailey said, “she’s a black woman. Everybody’s like, ‘Black lives matter.’ And I’m thinking, do only some black lives matter? What about her life and her livelihood and her business that she’s built and her income for her family? Do her black children’s lives not matter?”

Bailey has started a GoFundMe page to raise money to redo the shop and rebrand the company, to “help remove the ‘invisible markings’ left from last year’s protests and riots.”
