After being released from jail for spray-painting over pro-Israel posters in New York’s subway last month, cable news commentator and “proud savage” Mona Eltahawy told CNN she’d “do it again in a second.” Eltahawy might have her chance, as the posters went up yesterday at four Washington, D.C. Metro stations.
From her tweet, it doesn’t sound like Eltahawy’s stocking up on spray-paint and making the trip herself, but she has given some hashtag support to the Occupy-aligned Operation Deface and asked for photos of the vandalism — in the name of free speech, after all.

The posters, paid for by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, were tied up in court but went up Monday after a district judge issued a ruling ordering the Washington Metro Transit Authority to install them. Eltahawy had claimed that by spray-painting the poster in New York she was only exercising “freedom of expression on top of freedom of expression.”

In a Washington Post op-ed, Nathan Lean urged people not to deface the “vitriolic” posters, which read, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel, defeat Jihad.” Not everyone is listening, though.
