We did a post Monday on the background behind the “canceling” of “Harry Potter” creator J.K. Rowling for being a transphobe. There’s a new “Harry Potter” game coming out soon called “Hogwarts Legacy,” and we’ve learned that if you pre-order the game, you’re making a donation to “actively harm trans people.” A lot of people seem to be facing a real dilemma: do they buy the game or boycott it?
The truth is that a lot of people are going to be buying the game. Watching with scorn is Brianna Wu, who says “Hogwarts Legacy” isn’t a game — it’s a character test.
Hogwarts Legacy isn’t a game.
It’s a character test.
And a lot of people are about fail it.

Apparently, Wu has been appearing on British TV explaining the importance of boycotting the game.
Where do we land on the topic of the franchise existing beyond its creator and this game being the product of a generation of creators eager for people to play their game despite of Rowling? Are we punishing the wrong people by boycotting the game?

🙄 The amount of rationalizations from otherwise intelligent people has been extremely disappointing
— Brianna Wu (@BriannaWu) January 16, 2023
That doesn’t sound like a rationalization to us — this is going to hurt the game developers and publisher; Rowling won’t even notice, as the game’s already been licensed.
It’s a game… Life, however, IS a character test that many are failing.

Exactly! If you don’t buy #HogwartsLegacy, swayed by absurd concerns that Harry Potter’s beloved creator has supposedly committed some societal sin by standing against the rank misogyny of modern “transgender” insanity, you’re a spineless coward without much character at all. pic.twitter.com/90F57KHiqc

I am thoroughly enjoying watching the left tear itself apart. Great job guys!

Whoa, didn't even know this game existed. Thanks for the heads up. My kids will flip out.

This tweet isn't a tweet.
It's a character test.
And you failed it.

I might buy this just to ensure the developers are compensated. They just made a damn game lmao 🤣

The people that count this as a character test are people I don't want to associate with. The sentiment is probably mutual so I count it as a win, especially if the game happens to be good.

I probably would never have bought the game but knowing how much of a meltdown it would cause when the game is a success makes me want to buy it twice.

Man, I can't wait to get cancelled because I played a fun looking game.

It looks awesome! I'm getting one for my grandkids! Three generations of Harry Potter fans over here!

Welp, I'm officially preordering it thanks to you.

These are the same people who think it’s OK to buy a copy of the “Harry Potter” books if Rowling’s name has been literally erased from it.
