As Twitchy reported earlier, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis tweeted Monday that Capitol Police had requested backup from other law enforcement agencies and the National Guard for President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address Tuesday night, but that he wouldn’t be sending the Florida National Guard to D.C. Professional comedian Dean Obeidallah took that as a sign that DeSantis wants another January 6 to happen and he wants it to succeed. They’ve already erected that fence around the Capitol and placed concrete barriers.
A lot of people in the comments told DeSantis to wait for hurricane season, when he’d go begging to FEMA for help. Politico and MSNBC’s Sam Stein had a similar thought: What if DeSantis is elected president in 2024. Would the governor who wouldn’t send National Guard troops to the Capitol withhold federal aid from politicians he didn’t like?
Worth contemplating that, as president, DeSantis could adopt this approach too: FEMA help for politicians he supports but not for others? https://t.co/bcwIkuuX1b

Worth contemplating: members of the National Guard are not human props to be used by Democrat politicians. https://t.co/aC8A7eNSF4

The National Guard is to be activated to "…supplement regular armed forces during times of war or national emergency…or upon declaration of a state of emergency by the governor of the state ". The SOTU is none of those. https://t.co/FiJZ41cVQm

You really are disgusting. This isn’t a fucking hurricane or natural disaster. There’s no reason for the FLNG to be deployed to D.C. https://t.co/wQEDrnCE2t

What the fuck do you actually do?
Biden ALREADY DID THIS. https://t.co/WlqgEVlZUL

That’s literally what Biden actually did; his Administration denied FEMA individual assistance to Lee and Collier County tornado survivors a couple weeks ago. Have you reported about this yet, or are you just writing political fiction as usual? https://t.co/G3f2iVGZU4

Federal aid kicks in when there’s greater damage than that

How much damage do they expect at the State of the Union?
