We don’t recall Rep. Ilhan Omar saying anything openly anti-Semitic this week that would send mainstream journalists rushing to write puff pieces about her, and we haven’t heard her vocally supporting the Maduro regime in Venezuela in a while, so what’s the occasion? The Washington Post obviously thought it was time for yet another piece on Omar’s background and her controversial tenure in Congress.
Yes, we know. She was born in Somalia and fled to a refugee camp in Kenya before coming to the United States. And the U.S. has been a big disappointment to her — not enough that she’d consider returning to Somalia, at least not before “fixing” America.
Ilhan Omar’s complicated American story: The U.S. is the country that saved her and the country that has too often disappointed her.

Here’s her story, again:
At issue wasn’t a piece of legislation or an election. It was something bigger — a battle over the American story — who was entitled to tell it and how it would be told.
In Omar’s version, America wasn’t the bighearted country that saved her from a brutal war and a bleak refugee camp. It wasn’t a meritocracy that helped her attend college or vaulted her into Congress. Instead, it was the country that had failed to live up to its founding ideals, a place that had disappointed her and so many immigrants, refugees and minorities like her.
“I grew up in an extremely unjust society, and the only thing that made my family excited about coming to the United States was that the United States was supposed to be the country that guaranteed justice to all,” she told the high school students. “So, I feel it necessary for me to speak about that promise that’s not kept.”
And so, on this morning she decided to share a story of American racism, cruelty and injustice.

Of course she did. It was the story of a “sweet, old . . . African American lady” who was caught stealing and fined $80. Yet she sides with Iran and Russia in supporting the Maduro regime, which took a U.S. journalist into military custody for the crime of filming citizens scavenging food out of a garbage truck.
America welcomes immigrant from hellhole country. Americans elect said immigrant to Congress. Immigrant responds by denigrating America and striving to turn it into the very hellhole she escaped from.

A Somali refugee escapes a hellhole and is welcomed here to the point where she becomes a Congresswoman despite a history of corruption, dishonesty (even admitting to making stuff up in this very story), and bigotry, but somehow America is the problem. https://t.co/A3IIuOKSRS

Yes, we know she pretends America is terrible while holding us to a standard she doesn’t apply to anyone else (except Israel).
Also, can any mainstream reporters cover Omar without extensively downplaying her bigotry and corruption?
— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) July 6, 2019
America has far more reason to be disappointed with Ilhan Omar than Ilhan Omar has to be disappointed with America.
— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) July 6, 2019
Most of your points are valid, but she totally trashed places like Saudi Arabia as well. Not just Israel.
— Dave Stein (@Dave_Stein) July 6, 2019
Yes, she goes after Sunni states too, while excuse much worse Shia and Communist states.
— (((AG))) (@AG_Conservative) July 6, 2019
She's disappointed in a country that took her and and gave her the chance to become a member of Congress? GTFOH with this.

Oh no, we let Ilhan Omar down, however will we recover. Shame on us for not excusing her anti-Semitism (barely covered in this nearly 4000 word article). Shame on us for thinking the soldiers of Black Hawk Down were the good guys (not mentioned at all). https://t.co/veaVfEGCnU

Wow, she does not like veterans.

Yes, I'm sure supporting Israel and not preferring that all the Jews be pushed into the sea is very disappointing to her.

Yes…we know. We know.
She's a Jew-hating sack of excrement that would have been better off left in the hellhole she helped create. pic.twitter.com/K01SUuLURb

Yeah, very rare in that she hates America.

@IlhanMN's inability to follow the laws in this country. Immigration fraud, tax fraud, lying on her FAFSA. Ilhan should be in jail not Congress.
— Tonya still @watchingfoxes (@tonya_still) July 6, 2019
Well, yeah. She violated federal law to become a citizen, to lower her taxes, and get elected.

At this point, poor little girl, do we have to cry?
— angelo (@andalo49) July 6, 2019
This is not a version of America I had in mind either… I expect a modern secular society where immigrants conform to social norms. Clearly, she didn’t get the same memo…

"Complicated…." Interested to see how her marriages has complicated her story. This is a puff piece, pure and simple. Interesting that you don't address her tax filings or her questionable marriage.
— Lovin'Life (@LakeLifeIsGreat) July 6, 2019
I love how the liberal Washington Post calls her “complicated “ if she was Republican they’d call her criminal , corrupt etc
— Make L.A Great Again (@GuiltyHonkey) July 6, 2019
Yes, she’s “complicated.” And “she has a different experience in the use of words,” don’t forget, which makes her seemingly anti-Semitic and anti-American statements even more complicated to parse.
