The Left Is No Longer Our Ideological Majority, and They Know It

AngieArtist

For the past decade, I've argued the American Left has failed to engage in any meaningful introspection over why they've lost national elections -- not once, but twice -- to Donald Trump.

I used to think it was simply because the Left didn't care enough about us voters to try and understand who we are and what's important to us. Make no mistake -- they still don't care about us. They've proven that time and again with their sycophantic love of illegal immigrants. Some of them downright loathe us, to the point where we were 'garbage' and 'domestic terrorists.'

But now I realize that years of existing in ideological bubbles have rendered the Left incapable of understanding this fundamental fact: American culture has shifted, and they are no longer in the majority. This makes sense because the Left has taken the 20% side on every major social issue for the last half-decade.

Part of that is basic oppositional defiance: Republicans like XYZ thing, so the Left has to oppose it. Donald Trump opposes 'gender-affirming care,' so they're going to love it and ignore that it's a wholesale mutilation of children that would make even Josef Mengele pause.

But thanks to the Left's stranglehold on pop culture and the vast majority of media outlets, they also believe their ideologies are the norm and that the majority of Americans fall in line with their worldview. This is why they paint anti-abortion laws as 'extreme' while they push for unfettered abortion up to and including the moments before birth (that's the really extreme view).

There have been two stories over the past week that prove this. First is the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle ads. Not the ads themselves, and not the Leftist outrage over them. Instead, it's the Left's attempt to gaslight us on how and where the outrage started: with them.

Yes, nothing says 'Right-wing clickbait' accounts like the Toronto Sun, HuffPost, the Today Show, MSNBC, NBC News, and Good Morning, America.

This revisionist attack on what really went down tells me the Left might just be realizing that cultural winds have shifted, and that Americans not only see the ads as a refreshing change from woke campaigns featuring obese, transgender, and other 'diverse' models. After all, American Eagle's market cap skyrocketed, the jeans sold out, and the company didn't apologize for those ads.

If the Left felt they were gaining anything by continuing to attack the Sweeney ads, they would. Instead, they're rewriting the narrative to say the outrage didn't come from them. We see it for what it is, however: a cynical attempt at gaslighting.

The same thing applies to the outrage over Gutfeld's 'Tonight Show' appearance. They Left is lashing out because they know things are moving to the Right, leaving them to scream their preferred pronouns into the void. And it terrifies them.

As my colleague Warren told you earlier today, Vulture wrote a piece about late-night 'kissing the rings' of conservatives. Other Leftist media outlets were unhappy with Fallon giving Gutfeld a platform:

I noticed that none of them were upset about Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel giving softball interviews to Democrats, which both have done repeatedly. That's (D)iffernet, of course, and when audiences respond by not watching, they point the fingers at anyone and everyone but themselves.

They truly believe they own late-night television (along with every other media outlet). That by giving Gutfeld a seat on 'The Tonight Show,' Fallon is somehow 'normalizing' Gutfeld and giving him a platform.

But here's the reality: Gutfeld is the norm. It's the Left who are no longer the norm.

Gutfeld leads late-night, averaging 3.1 million viewers through July 20, while Colbert has 1.9 million during that same timeframe. Gutfeld also trounces Colbert in the most coveted viewer demographic, averaging 398,000 per night -- 30% more than Colbert. Gutfeld does well with younger audiences, too, while people who collect Social Security tune in to Colbert.

President Trump won reelection by demolishing Kamala Harris in the Electoral College and the popular vote. So when the Left says 'Trump isn't who we are! Those aren't our values!' the truth is they are our values. The majority of Americans voted for this.

The Democratic Party leads voters by single digits in three age groups: women ages 30-49, and those aged 65+. That's it. That's the Democratic Party's voting base.

They are now the minority, and they're starting to realize it.
