Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) won applause from the Senate gallery, both sides of the political aisle, and from far-off quarters here at home and around the world late tonight after ending his filibuster of President Obama’s CIA director nominee John Brennan over White House drone policy.

Sen. Paul joked that he had to break the filibuster because he needed to “pee:”

The cross-partisan praise:

Video from hour 9:

Here’s Paul ending the filibuster to finally take his bathroom break:

  • Tangchung

Hope Paul see Senators McCain and Graham in the Senate men’s room…pees on their shoes.

    • Brian Roastbeef

McCain and Graham can and do manage to pee on their own shoes, thank you very much.

      • Silence Dogood

I’m amazed they can EAT without a drool cup attached to their special needs helmet. Those guys are morons.

  • Peyton

Although the filibuster is over, I will still be proud to stand with these gentlemen. They have effectively taken over the party, for the better.

    • GigsUp

they got the 16 needed votes to have “cloture” which goes into effect at the 48 hour mark, then they have to wait another 2 days from that point to vote and they must have 60 (3/5s) votes for him to pass.

      • GigsUp

btw, the debate can continue until that 48 hour mark when “cloture” becomes active. they may even persuade some who have voted (out of the 17 – only need two) by that 48 hour mark to REVERSE a few. if not, final vote at the 96 hours mark, even if they get the 60, they can continue to “debate” at will for yet another 30 hours. I hope they come out swinging tomorrow, and I hope the entire citizenry who has access to c-span live streaming watches and listens. they will learn the REAL issues with this “ideal” which our fraud in chief believes that he has soul authority here on our land to assassinate a citizen without due process, even if a treat is NOT imminent and irregardless if a person is able to be arrested and taken into custody.

        • Rob

No wonder they don’t have time to read any of the legislature they pass or have semblance of understanding of the constitution. Their skulls are full of Senate rules.

          • almarquardt

You got a point. I also heard their book on ethics is thicker than the Bible. That’s what happens when hundreds of lawyers get together to attempt to solve problems *rolls eyes*

          • Rob

“Can’t see the forest for all the trees”
But, hey, better they write rules regarding themselves than us.

  • lonestar

Too bad someone didn’t bring him a urine bottle. I was hoping this filibuster would last until Reid and McConnell show up midmorning.

    • Peyton

I think he can go pee without yielding the floor. Must have decided he accomplished his purpose.

      • Andrew

Actually, leaving to pee or even leaving the area around the desks is considered to be yielding the floor. He also wasn’t allowed to sit.

      • Stone Bryson

Actually, according to filibuster rules if you leave the Senate floor – hell, even if you just sit down for a second – the filibuster is at an end. Unfortunately heading to the head is considered leaving the floor…

        • Paolina

What I don’t understand is why a different Senator can’t immediately take over after he leaves and keep the filibuster going…

          • 1SkepticalChick

The person wishing to continue would have to be recognized to speak. That wasn’t going to happen.

      • Brian Roastbeef

And of course you can’t poop either. Last time somebody pooped on the Senate floor during a filibuster was back in the ’90s. The resulting turd caucused with the Democrats and was elected in its own right. You now know that poop as Chuck Schumer. True story.

        • ozconservative

Oh…..I thought it was Alan Grayson………or is he descended from one of Harry Reids boogers????

        • Tay

HAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Best response EVER! Literally laughed out loud. Chucky Schumer is totally a turd! LOL

      • 1SkepticalChick

No, he can’t leave the room or sit down for any reason. If he does then he is considered to have yielded the floor.

      or even some Depends

  • Deborah Hallsted

Absolutely awesome. So proud of him! Representation of the people! Even Van Jones had to give him respect.

  • Youxia88

    Captain Thunderpee

  • Scott Carroll

Tip to other 2016 Presidential hopefuls: This is how you become the frontrunner.

    • Zane Henry

  • Kristen Steudle

He’s an MD, I thought he would just put a Foley in and he could have lasted days!

    • CindyLu

I was thinking the same thing.

  • Stone Bryson

Today and tonight we not only saw history play out, we participated in it. March 6, 2013 was a very good day for the Republic, something which is seldom even acknowledged any longer. Thank you, Senator Paul, and all those senators who stood with him.

    • BlueGood

After watching Mr. Paul to the end this morning, I couldn’t sleep, and then I wondered “Is it just me that see the historic similarities of one GOOD MAN standing up to TYRANNY as another in his country”?

Maybe someone with better skills than I can do a photo shop with Mr. Paul in a similar pic!

  • Brian Roastbeef

Most amazing coincidence of this: John McCain today took a 12 hour 52 minute long pee that prevented him from being able to filibuster.

  • charrenee

Nice to see someone has a pair

  • CindyLu

I was referring to Kristen who said he was an MD and he should’ve hooked up a foley. He could pee for days standing up. Wear a long coat or robe to cover the bag. lol. These Republicans need to get crafty as the democrats. Use your creativity. Look at things through the eyes of the American people. Then do what’s right.

    • Worship Dancer

      or use some Depends

    • doc255

They make these things called “leg bags”. Very convenient, and no coat needed….

  • Hiawatha_Laughing_Water

Bravo, Rand Paul! Thank you for bringing all of America’s questions to the fore in the Senate!

  • Paul Citro

Rand Paul is one of a new breed that we desperately need.

  • notenoughtime

Finally, a senator with some kahunas.

  • Mother Nature!

I want to give a great round of applause to Sen. Rand Paul, he deserves to be our next President. We need more people with the guts to do what he is doing for saving our American Constitution and Rights, we have as born Americans. God Bless Him.

  • Typewriterstreaming

    Just awesome

  • agroulx

I hope for this to accomplish two goals: 1. The obvious (what he was filibustering) 2. To wake up the Republicans…. to show the people who vote for the John McCain’s, Lindsey Sham’s, McConnells, Boener’s – all the established pathetic little RINO’s who “represent” us and “stand up for the Constitution” – how these people are spineless and weak… who has let Obama castrate them along time ago. Those people don’t deserve to be in office. They have had their time, reaped their millions, brought stigma to the Republican name, subtly assisted the destroyers of America… VOTE THEM OUT!

  • ToyZebra

This is what we so desperately want. Someone to make a stand for what is right. Win or lose, just someone with true convictions planting themselves and saying “No, you move.”

  • Rev TJ Conwell

Still grinning from ear to ear after that first class display of Statesmanship yesterday from Senator Rand Paul. God bless you, fellow Patriot.

  • TN05

    Best pee joke ever.

  • Rapid Descent

So he had to “pee.” Classless way to end a courageous filibuster. The mention of bodily functions in public discourse is crude and tiresome.

    • © Sponge

      Take it easy, Francis.

    • $7610427

      That’s what you’re focused on?

  • aliwilcox

There was no hatred in his remarks, only a deep devotion to the principles that established the nation. It made me proud–not to be a republican, since I don’t even know what that means anymore, but to be a conservative and more importantly, a patriot.

  • bidentime

Senator Paul has earned the respect of the American people, and the wrath of Obama.

    Win win situation here.

  • franknmiller

awesome !! if Ron Paul had half the smarts his kid does, he would be President by now
