Some things strike a nerve, and denying the men and women who are on the front lines one of their few leisure activities is one of them.

Will Obama hit the golf course today?

I was on a replenishment oiler from 81-85. We were assigned to Nimitz when we went to the Med, but we always got split up. They’d bring us mail, but if they got taken out of a port for some reason, the mail would have to play catch up.

But one thing never failed. It didn’t matter how many crumbs a batch of cookies had turned into by the time it reached us, they were appreciated and eaten right down the the top layer of cardboard.

    • http://granitegrok.com/author/mike Mike Rogers

In an earlier era, when armed forces were deployed around the globe, always on internet and global TV coverage just wasn’t available.
Picture advanced satellite communications to The Navy……. consisting of a couple of teletype channels and a secure voice line for the commander.

I was a shift leader on a satellite base serving Royal Navy ships on patrol and deployment – every Saturday evening, one member of the crew was dispatched to have dinner with his family…. with a pencil and paper on hand as the football league results were announced. (No TV on watch)

When he returned, the fastest typist on watch had the job of transcribing the scores onto teletype and broadcasting it to all the ships.

Every morning, the prehistoric version of “Instapundit” or “Twitchy” was created as soon as morning maintenance was completed – scan the tabloid headlines and key in the pull quotes from the top stories before the news got stale.

Yes, making the troops feel like back home cared about them was ALWAYS important, and having been responsible for getting these informal bulletins out every day, I am truly enraged to see that the man we elected as Commander In Chief does not care for the troops!

Refuse to allow our service personnel to watch the NFL, shut down access to national monuments, anything Obama can do make make sure that people suffer over this shutdown so he can blame the right-wing and Republicans. All that matters, is scoring political points against his “enemies.”

    • ObamaFail

Since he views us as the enemy, and he told his followers to vote for revenge last year, how about we get revenge on the Socialists in the Senate by voting them right out of the majority. Let’s see if we can make sure that Obama’s last 2 years in office are spent having to compromise because he’ll face impeachment if he doesn’t.

      • Worship Dancer

He’s counting on the fact that everyone experiencing these inconveniences, or even hearing about them, will blame the Republicans.

I thought it was bad when we had two C-130s in shelters as “Cann Birds” to supply quick parts and make other planes Mission Capable at Andrews AFB, under Carter.

And one ISO Bird (C-141) and two others in shelters for cannibalization parts under Clinton’s second term.

Obama makes both them look like rank amateurs.

        Thank you, Low Information Voters!

        • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil ✓Mate

I worked the Motor Pool in an Army Artillery unit during Ford and Carter. Battalion had a policy that a vehicle could only be on the “dead line” for X number of days. So about a week prior to that date rolling around we’d take the parts off a good truck, make it the dead one and get the other running.

I was out briefly and came back in the Navy, still under Carter and it was the same there for ships and aircraft. I see that coming back soon. I’m sure Russia and China will stop their military build ups while we go on sabbatical.

          • Jay Stevens

As of 1995 when I retired, the Army was doing pretty much the same thing. The limit pretty much was 90 days. After a piece of equipment was awaiting parts for 90 days, it was reported up the line. So our leadership always told us to cannabilize parts from a more recent deadlined piece of equipment.

The process is really counterproductive because when you repair the old piece of equipment, all of the old parts requisitions are canceled so the higherups never see your parts problems.

    • Jeremy C

The reason why is because he knows history. He knows roman emperors that have gotten out of control have been killed by their own pretorian guard. That is why obama makes the marines disarm and has their rifles bolts removed when hes around them.

Narcissistic Sociopath Disorder (via the amazing link from Jack Deth) is quite apt. Here’s a pic which reveals Obummer’s arrogance:

    • journogal

Not insane, just evil. He truly hates America, and wants to tear it down and “rebuild” it with his own views. I truly believe he wants to be credited as the President that finally took down America.

      • Michelle ✓classified

I believe he wants to equalize America, render it no longer a Super Power. I believe he wants to create an equal playing field across the globe, to the extent of bolstering Islamic extremists and socialism. I believe he absolutely agrees with Putin’s opinion that America is not exceptional. And the real quicker in that is, there is NO OTHER country on this Earth who would have made him a world leader. America gave this man EVERYTHING he is today, and he does nothing more than bite the hand that feeds him.

          • Jay Stevens

Or the NFL just doesn’t care as much.

      • GaryTheBrave

Yes, it is a team sport where all players play both offense and defense. To score one point a runner has to run 360 feet and touch specific points. They do this by striking an orb that is flying at about 90 mph that was launched about 60 ft away. The orb is struck with a stick. If the orb touches the ground before a defender catches it the hitter tries to touch as many of the four points as possible before a defender can touch him with the orb.

Compared this with football where players on offense don’t play defense, where the objective is to move a semi-orbital sphere only up to 300 ft and often less, where there are no requirements to make contact with specific points on the field, and a goal is worth six points with a freebie added afterwards.

        • DeadlockVictim

Or soccer, where play only stops for injuries, fouls, and the ball going out of bounds, so you don’t have to sit through five minutes of beer and truck ads after every play, and players run over five miles per match, getting tripped with no more padding than a pair of shinguards. And the whole thing gets wrapped up in under two hours.

          • Jay Stevens

Or rugby, which combines the “best” features of both soccer and American football.

          • GaryTheBrave

Plus, in soccer (aka futbol) all those delays in play are added on after regulation so you get a full, true 90 minutes of action.

Fair enough. But why is it if there are two baseball games on TV, the one I watch will end 1-0 after 13 innings, whereas the one I didn’t watch ends called by rain after 8 innings and the score is 18-17?

          • GaryTheBrave

The first is called a pitchers’ duel. The second is pitchers’ fail.

Of course it is. Leading by example ….

Thing is, the course at Andrews is open. We shall see if even he is stupid enough to golf on it while this is going on.

The Republicans (the younger ones) should use this as their new motto.
“Don’t want the Govt. to be able to shut your parks and oceans and everything else? Reduce it”
We, the Republicans want to reduce the size of Govt so it cannot hold you hostage and use Power Plays to get it’s way. Battle the Monster…..

I wonder if Obummer pisses off the armed forces so much, that in secret, they raid the White House at night, and arrest Oballah on the spot…

The country is witnessing the ugliness of obama. He doesn’t have another election to win, so he is showing off his true colors.

  • Suzyqpie

You know when the Axe & Rahm were running the show they kept 0bama out of bad optics and the toxicity of this debris field of his own making. His advisors are not diplomats or scholars, they are just sycophant friends trapped in group think. Whose idea was it to block WWII vets in wheelchairs from the monument built in their honor? That is just stunning hubris. I guess he figures he owns the press and can do as he pleases.

The Spite House; hurting the people that deserve it the least.

What’s Obama want you to watch, that video made my an anti-Muslim director that caused a “spontaneous riot” in Benghazi?

Obama just approved them to watch the Steelers, Redskins, Vikings, and Buccaneers games.

  • G Mac

Over 80% of the government is still operating and the military can not watch football and 1100 square miles of ocean is closed to fishing. I think we should have a special election for congress next week.

Does President Obama remind anyone else of Marie Antionette: “Let them eat cake!”

  • Steve Carter

It is not a good idea for Obama to go to Camp David. Even though the staff their is considered “crucial” and has not been furloughed. Anyway, after 10 years in the Marines, I can assure you it sucks when even limited luxuries are shut down.

  • Michelle ✓classified

Anyone else hold the belief that any President who has served this country would NEVER do such a thing and that only a Community Organizer could sleep at night after making a decision to not give our troops serving overseas anything they damn wanted? He is NOT fit or qualified to be holding the position of Commander in Chief.

    • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

Service is not an indication of character. Hitler was a war veteran; Mussolini was a draft dodger. It is not Obama’s lack of service, but his lack of character.

      • Michelle ✓classified

Service is an indication of understanding what it’s like to serve in ways those who have not served cannot understand.

        • Stephen L. Hall #NonquamTrump

That’s just non-sense, to say that one can not understand because they have not done or experienced is an insult to the human mind. Those who have not served are fully capable of understanding. It is one thing to honor those who have served, quite another to insult everyone who has not.

          • Michelle ✓classified

It wasn’t an insult. And I respectfully disagree with you. A person can imagine the hardships and sacrifices of serving overseas, but they cannot truly understand what it’s really like unless they’ve done it. You can argue with that all you want, but you absolutely cannot truly understand what it’s like to be away from your family for a year, perhaps miss the birth of your first child, live in desert conditions in a cot or on the ground, not knowing if today is the day you or a friend dies, not knowing if today is the day you might have a kill another human being. If these things were easy to understand, our men and women would not be coming back suffering PTSD. You are the one who insults them by assuming you can totally grasp what they’ve gone through when you’ve never lived it.

Obama’s too busy to negotiate, he’s worrying about re-naming the Washington Redskins. After the change, he and his liberal stooges will begin talking about the “lack of diversity and inclusion of minorities in NFL team names”. Liberals are such transparent phonies, it’s amazing how many otherwise intelligent people they rope in with their idiocy.

KINGOBAMA has spoken, no pay, no religion(unless it is muslim), AND NO NFL! Come on people, wake up it is kingobama way, or kingoabmas way, there is no other way! Until the GOP/DEMS get a clue, things are only going to get worse! Get ready, it is coming!

Kicks vets out of their memorials. Won’t allow priests to minister to troops. Closes they Grand Canyon and the ocean. Closes private businesses that lease federal lands. Forces people to leave their homes if their houses are on federal land.

What is he trying to start here?

  • MN324

Obama is terrible. How anyone can support him at this point is beyond my comprehension.

  • Citizen Loring

  • Shouldknowbetter

Doesn’t the administration have anything better to do than rehash the same old song and dance of every other administration……cough cough Clinton……Utilized to make shutdowns felt by all…….The Healthcare Exchange program is going to be lucky to make it to the end of his Presidency, and there won’t be a bipartisan agreement to keep it alive when it needs more money, and is blamed for the deaths and lower quality of care…..This is a program meant to be hated by all, and for many different reasons….Though you can find out whats in it by paying a local health care adviser by the hour to find out what you need, and how to get it……

  • AZWarrior

Auhhhhhhh, Mr. President, you may not realize this, but those troops WILL be coming home and perhaps it would be best for all concerned if you weren’t here when they do!

    • Entrepmanure

that’s a pretty freaking stupid thing to say…

      • Axelgreaser

THEY’RE A FLY IN THE OINTMENT, those vets. Though his lefty base wants ‘o more wars’, unless THEY start them, do you really think he wants them home? And discharged? I’ve thought about this a lot. That means they will be added to his conspicuously inaccurately accounted for jobless figures (which are laughable, we all notice how the economy around us has stagnated) unless he can steer them into colleges, park them for a few years and make it possible for the Dem’s to look like saints and underwrite their education, charging it back to all of us. Even at that, the deficit grows and the food stamp press smolder’s. And Democrats time to kill off baby boomers with O’CrapCare and to also firmly lodge America into the hideous quicksand of socialism. And looking at the pattern of the Democrats ‘confuse, legislate, distract and lie’ pathology of the past five years, it all has to be timed out for elections. No, I don’t think he cares if they rot over there, the troops. Look how he and his administration treat old vets and how al the new injured will be treated!

        • AZWarrior

Axel, you make some very interesting points. History has shown that there have been nations who got on the “military treadmill” with huge armies that as the conflicts decreased, the economy had no way of absorbing the mass of manpower, or care for all the war disabled. Sociologists have noted the tendency of such nations finding one conflict after another to delay that reintegration problem. The moral implications of such a policy is apparent. One could even liken the situation to a species that has become too large for the available resources. Starvation and illness rebalances the herd and it’s environment.

so, I guess what you are saying is that they are right in believing that all returning vets are potential terrorist threats…

          brilliant analysis..

          • AZWarrior

No, you know very well that is nonsense. We are not terrorists. Of course you knew that but seem to be all wrapoed up about about the troops coming back. Bet you are one of the folks who are “too smart, too good” to serve in the military, and want us all declared unfit to have firearms.

          • Entrepmanure

not at all, dumbass… stupid freaking threatening comments like THAT sure makes the Liberals’ case for them tho…

          • AZWarrior

  • RaggedyAnn46

Let’s see, so far BO has blocked (tried) WWII veterans, who fought for our freedoms, from visiting their own memorials. He has blocked entrance to national monuments that belong to “we the people”. He has kicked elderly people out of their own homes. He has shut down individual businesses, preventing hard working Americans from earning their livelihood. He has shut down the official site of the Amber Alert. Now preventing troops from enjoying one of the few luxuries afforded them. The list goes on and on. Can he sink any lower? He and his thug administration all should be jailed!!!
