Flying with young kids can often be … well, let’s just say it’s not the easiest possible flight experience. Dirty looks from fellow passengers aren’t fun, and it’s no picnic for the parents, either. That said, though, if you’re gonna fly with your kids, you’re making a conscious decision to do so, and you need to be prepared to accept full responsibility for your kids’ behavior.
Toronto Bluejays pitcher Anthony Bass’ pregnant wife recently flew on United with their 5- and 2-year-old kids. During the course of the flight, their two-year-old daughter apparently got pretty messy with the popcorn. And that’s when the flight experienced took a nosedive. No, not because the kid made a mess on a commercial airline flight, but because the flight attendant expected Bass’ wife to clean up. Bass seems to be under the impression that it was the flight attendant’s job to clean up after his kids:
The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a 5 year old and 2 year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter. Are you kidding me?!?! pic.twitter.com/vLYyLyJC54

We figured we’d go ahead and screenshot that tweet, juuuuuuuuust in case Bass ever realizes what a terrible idea it was to put it out into the universe.
If we were the flight attendant in question, we’d be asking Anthony Bass if he’s kidding us. Because he cannot be serious with that tweet.
Genuinely curious who should clean up the mess your 2 year old made? As a parent of three kids I am the one responsible for them.

The cleaning crew they hire!

“The cleaning crew they hire.” Stop digging, Anthony. FFS.
wow, pitcher for the Blue Jays .. and his wife had to clean a mess made by their kids.
HOW DARE UNITED MAKE HER DO THAT, BRING YOUR CLEANING SLAVES INTO THIS PLANE RIGHT NOW !!

And for the love of God, United, don’t indulge him:
Hi there, Anthony. We certainly understand your concern and we'd like to look into this. When you have a moment, please DM your wife's confirmation number along with any additional details regarding her interaction with this crew member. ^AN https://t.co/Y6hG6u3i8R

There’s literally nothing to “look into,” United. Except maybe a pat on the back for the flight attendant:
Please promote the crew for holding parents accountable

Mortifying that she would think of leaving such a mess behind.
22 weeks is *the best part of pregnancy* so really not sure what the problem is here—she could've swept that up in the time it took her to snap this pic.

Personally, I’d be embarrassed and cleaned that up before anyone asked me.
My kid used to make terrible messes when he’d eat as a toddler, and I’d usually ask for a broom at restaurants before I left. There was no way I was gonna expect the staff to clean that.

Absolutely ridiculous …
That you would think this post won't get you ratioed. CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR KIDS FFS
— 🍹 Princess Consuela Banana-Hammock (@kimmie_c_) April 17, 2023
I can't even count the number of times I've cleaned up after my children during travel or going out to eat. A server's job is to bring food and drinks, not pick up after my messy kids.
— Abradax (@OmegaAbradax) April 17, 2023
I have three kids, just flew coach 12 hours, and was able to clean up after them — for every mess. It’s called parenting. Do you expect park janitors to clean up after your pet? No; Your child, your responsibility.
— Corey Herscu (@coreyherscu) April 17, 2023
Or here’s a thought: have your kids clean up after themselves!
A 5 year old and 2 year old are very capable of cleaning up this mess. Even if the stewardess had offered I’d have made my kids clean up their mess. Yikes. https://t.co/GtRoIRvPv1

This would’ve been a great opportunity for his kids to learn an important lesson about responsibility and courtesy. But it’s not clear that either Anthony or his wife know what those things are, either. So what hope to the kids have?
I'm sorry United made your wife be a grown-up. Thoughts and prayers in this trying time. https://t.co/pHicCiuhpq
