Paging all married men! UK Telegraph thinks you should consider giving your wife permission to cheat on you for Christmas

Christmas is still almost two months away, but it has a way of sneaking up on you. That’s why it’s never too early to get a jump on your shopping. But as you know, Christmas is about so much more than spending lots of money on material things. Sometimes the best gifts are those that come from the heart.

To that end, The Telegraph is just putting this idea out there:

Before we continue, we’ll note that this piece was originally published in December 2018. But apparently, it’s still fresh nearly a year later. The Telegraph’s Rosa Silverman spoke with author Wednesday Martin, who believes that women who truly want to embrace their true sexuality should recognize that they’re just not cut out for the whole monogamy thing.

Silverman writes:

But Wednesday Martin, whose latest book Untrue explores “why nearly everything we believe about women and lust and infidelity” is wrong, is not being flippant. “We now know long-term relationships are harder on female desire than they are on male desire,” she says. “Many experts now believe monogamy is a tighter fit for women than for men. This Christmas give your wife something she really wants. Something truly exciting. A hall pass.”

She acknowledges consensual non-monogamy would not be the way forward for everyone. “[For] some people that would drive them absolutely insane and it would be a terrible idea,” she says. For those people, she suggests alternatives, such as trying to inject the spark back into the sex life you already have.

“The real gift would be to give your spouse permission to have the conversation,” she says. “Why is it better to get a divorce and move on when you simply decide ‘I don’t fancy him any more’, or the spark is gone… What a trail of destruction you might save yourself from creating if you said instead: is there something we can do here?”

Yes, there’s something you can do. But it’s not “get permission to cheat on your spouse.” It shouldn’t take a relationship expert to see that so-called “hall passes” are a recipe for disaster.

It shouldn’t need to be said but steer clear of the hall pass. Even a damn fruitcake would make a better gift.
