The whole thing is absurd.

This article and headline are pure propaganda. The article claims the ceremonies "coincide with Trump's widely condemned policy of separating families at the border" – you know, the policy that stretches back through the Obama years. How often will CNN repeat this lie? https://t.co/K9784pUyQ9

It’s shameless pot-stirring, is what it is.

Family separation has happened for a long time, but since Obama didn't have zero tolerance enforcement, very few families were separated. Trump=Obama is the lie here.

And a great number of families were separated on the U.S. side of the border under Obama. That policy was the same. All that changed was how vigorously illegal aliens with children were prosecuted.

But that doesn't make a good propaganda talking point, does it? One could criticize the zero-tolerance approach, but criticizing it fairly sucks all the oxygen out of the political narrative. It's hard to get people worked up about tolerating lawbreaking.

Thus the lie in CNN's report, spread casually by so much of the media, that the policy for separating families was Trump's rather than enforcement priorities that subjected more people to existing policies. The truth wouldn't get the outrage response they're looking for.
