As David Hogg learned recently, if you’re gonna cite history to make your point, you should probably make sure you’re familiar with history first. His sister Lauren Hogg is learning that same lesson about science after tweeting this last week:

Do you understand anything about fire behavior? Fighting fire with fire is the most effective way to prevent wildfires. It also regenerates the soil to encourage native grasses/forbs to thrive while weeding out the non-natives

Obviously you have no idea how fires work. Fighting wildfires with fire creates a barrier between the two fires, and does not allow the fires to spread because it uses up all available fuel. So, in certain situations you would indeed use this technique. Please state facts only.

Have you never heard of starting a back fire to stop an oncoming fire? It is a method used to stop the progtess of a wildfire and is very effective. Sometimes we must fight fire with fire.

Both of your analogies are unhelpful in this context. There are certainly multiple ways to stop people from having guns who are dangerous, and without trampling the 2nd, we should do this. But in the moment, you would desire a gun to defeat another gun.
