Elizabeth Warren is having a tough time shaking that whole falsely-claiming-Native-American-heritage-and-using-it-to-further-her-career-while-taking-opportunities-from-actual-Native-Americans thing, but hey, at least she’s got the media on her side.
Warren has personally sought advice from Native American friends on tribal issues & responding to racist attacks re: her ancestry.
Cheryl Andrews-Maltais, chairwoman of Wampanoag tribe, tells me she told her: "I have your back on this one. Swing back." https://t.co/L2mnU8lxEA
— MJ Lee (@mj_lee) August 18, 2019
“Racist attacks.” Is that what criticism of her shameless lies was?
love how making fun of Sen. Warren for claiming Cherokee heritage when she is anywhere between 1/64th and 1/1024th Native American — according to a DNA test *she* commissioned and released — is framed here as a "racist" attack. https://t.co/bDZByWsCnY
— T. Becket Adams (@BecketAdams) August 18, 2019
Apparently it’s not racist to claim someone else’s culture and heritage as your own, but it’s totally racist to get called out on it. What a time to be alive.
Meanwhile, as Democratic presidential candidates speak at a Native American forum, the RNC is all in on fueling racism against Native Americans. pic.twitter.com/gIzhKnPHoH
— Jennifer Bendery (@jbendery) August 19, 2019
Sorry … how, exactly, is that “fueling racism against Native Americans”?
I’m sorry. How?
— kris guht (@benjysfiance) August 19, 2019
Um, how, exactly, is pointing out Warren's racial fraud racist?
— Goldens Rule (@jamesbranch3) August 19, 2019
How is this racist against native Americans? In detail please. https://t.co/tZzQtGUzC8
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
Lol literally no one outside of your progressive bubble thinks this is racism
— LW (@redstatetake) August 19, 2019
Seems like the attack if pretty focused on Warren there, not on any actual Native Americans. https://t.co/RTbArS894k
— Matt Whitlock (@mattdizwhitlock) August 19, 2019
No one is fueling anything against native Americans. The RNC is simply pointing out a white person who pretend to be NA in order to advance her career.
— Shianne Huston (@wysassygirl) August 19, 2019
Seems to me the racism is from the person who falsified her minority status for financial gain, not the people who point out her lies.
— David Willford (@Dave_Willford) August 19, 2019
Uh… no one’s dunking of Native Americans. They dunk on Warren because she pretended to be one. You can’t possibly be this stupid.
— Mike (@M_P_Anto) August 19, 2019
I’d judge that to be about 1/1024 racist
— Andrew S. (@shoutingboy) August 19, 2019
Hey, Jennifer … think you could direct some of that righteous indignation at Elizabeth Warren? You know, the person who’s actually guilty of racism?
Elizabeth Warren is white.
— "Fredo" is racist toward Italians who are dumb (@jtLOL) August 19, 2019
It's racist to mock a white person who falsely claimed Native American ancestry, because she's a Democrat. https://t.co/1KOgkZjjxm
— "Fredo" is racist toward Italians who are dumb (@jtLOL) August 19, 2019
Media firefighters apparently have their marching orders.
It's not rocket science. @RepDebHaaland routinely talks about why it's so disrespectful every time Trump or the GOP mocks Pocahontas' name. From one her of her posts on this: pic.twitter.com/H7wkTLyFlb
— Jennifer Bendery (@jbendery) August 19, 2019
Nobody is mocking Pocahontas name. This is the issue at heart of Warren's claim. Which is more offensive? Calling a white woman who claimed to be native American a native American name, or a white woman who claimed for decades she was a Cherokee Indian.
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
I think you can get why citing a Democrat politician to defend another Democrat is going to be insufficient here. Perhaps you should start by asking Warren what mistakes she claimed she made, as her video which she just removed claimed it vindicated her claims in Law School.
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
Yeah, Warren doesn’t really get into any detail about her “mistakes”:
"Like anyone who's been honest with themselves, I know I have made mistakes," Elizabeth Warren tells a Native American forum in Iowa. "I am sorry for harm I have caused. I have listened, and I have learned. A lot."
— Matt Viser (@mviser) August 19, 2019
"I know I have made mistakes. I am sorry for harm I have caused," Warren begins, touching on her tribal ancestry drama. "I have listened & I have learned a lot. I am grateful for the many convos that we've had together."
Response: solid applause.
— Jennifer Bendery (@jbendery) August 19, 2019
Alleged reporters like Jennifer Bendery seem decidedly incurious about Elizabeth Warren’s offenses.
What tribal ancestry drama? Why is this so hard for people in the news media to answer? https://t.co/aNsXHFXxwJ
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
So now she gets credit for apologizing for telling a lie that her supporters still believe. https://t.co/a1shzKsBdT
— "Fredo" is racist toward Italians who are dumb (@jtLOL) August 19, 2019
media and warren are trying to push two narratives simultaneously: Warren is apologizing.. for something.. she won't say what.. while her allies in media are claiming mocking the thing she is apologizing for is a racist attack against her.
So which is it?
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
Whichever helps Elizabeth Warren. That’s all any of this was ever about.
If I call a Native American person Pocahontas, that would yes be a slur. Is it your editorial opinion that Elizabeth Warren is a Native American? https://t.co/ldMDt0AS9s
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
Seriously?
The GOP's email literally says "Fauxcahontas."
In the subject line. In a glaring headline in the body of the email.
— Jennifer Bendery (@jbendery) August 19, 2019
Yes and it's referring to Elizabeth Warren. Not native peoples. Are you again saying that Elizabeth Warren is therefore a Native American? https://t.co/ydORyeIief
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
Jennifer, this isn't a hard question. They are referring to Warren. The only way this is a racist slur is if Warren is a Native American. Is Elizabeth Warren a Native American, as she claimed on law licenses and through law school? Y/N ?
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
Why do you think it's okay to use "Fauxcahontas" at all, ever?
— Jennifer Bendery (@jbendery) August 19, 2019
You didn't answer my question.
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
Why do you think it's okay to appropriate Native peoples through law school, on law licenses and in a campaign launch video?
One of these things seems like a bigger deal than the other. https://t.co/q4pka0EadH
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
Stop. It’s not fair to put Jennifer in this position. She’s clearly not equipped to deal with being asked to explain herself. Guess she has that in common with Elizabeth Warren.
They won't answer this. It's amazing.
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
Nobody is mocking Pocahontas' name?
Are you joking?
Have you missed remarks/statements/tweets from the president of the United States?
— S.V. Dáte (@svdate) August 19, 2019
If we called Rachel Dolezal “Fauxprah Winfrey,” that would not be making fun of Oprah or her name. I suspect you already recognize this, however.
— Boomieleaks (@notwokieleaks) August 19, 2019
They know. Which is why I can't get a single straight forward Yes or no answer from them.
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
And you’re not going to get one.
I've said all I have to say.
I'll leave you with this piece we wrote about Trump's constant racism directed at Native people, Native people talking about how it affects them and the relatively little pushback Trump gets for this https://t.co/C0H8LzXkJK
— Jennifer Bendery (@jbendery) August 19, 2019
So you refuse to answer a simple question. Is Warren a Native American. Yes or no.
Amazing. https://t.co/1c7lbIYhKC
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019
Simple straight forward question they refuse to answer. Now ask why.
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) August 19, 2019

Update:
There’s still plenty more media malpractice where all that came from:
Elizabeth Warren addressed the controversy over her past claims of Native American ancestry at a presidential forum on Native American issues on Monday. “I am sorry for harm I have caused," she said. https://t.co/QUiKAI1TB3
— The New York Times (@nytimes) August 19, 2019
Great. She sorry sorry for the harm she caused. But is she also sorry for what she did? https://t.co/uIytdzHdHf
— Carlton Hinds (@methuselaschild) August 19, 2019
AP says she "directly" tackled the issue, but she only referred to "mistakes" without specifically saying what she did.
I am more interested in this in a media lens than diagnosing Warren's strange handling of this situation over the years. She gets breaks others don't. pic.twitter.com/dGmw79Gsf5
