As David Hogg learned recently, if you’re gonna cite history to make your point, you should probably make sure you’re familiar with history first. His sister Lauren Hogg is learning that same lesson about science after tweeting this last week:
I’m tired of people saying, “The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.“
Fighting fire with fire never got anything done. It just burned everything down.
It is the same reason why we must never fight hate with hate. Only love can drive out hate.

This is a terribly naive but sweet tweet.

Well, she tried. Not hard enough, but she tried.

Back fires, flank fires and strip fires are used to fight fires. So yes, we do use fires to fight fires..just saying

We actually did “fighting fire with fire” tactics to help stop the spread of fire/maintain/control the fire front ? pic.twitter.com/uGxo1BvlGG

Do you understand anything about fire behavior? Fighting fire with fire is the most effective way to prevent wildfires. It also regenerates the soil to encourage native grasses/forbs to thrive while weeding out the non-natives

Obviously you have no idea how fires work. Fighting wildfires with fire creates a barrier between the two fires, and does not allow the fires to spread because it uses up all available fuel. So, in certain situations you would indeed use this technique. Please state facts only.

Do you not know that fire fighters literally fight fire with fire?
Apparently saving homes and forest of trees is nothing getting done when you have a political agenda to push and don't understand your own words.

Have you never heard of starting a back fire to stop an oncoming fire? It is a method used to stop the progtess of a wildfire and is very effective. Sometimes we must fight fire with fire.
— Rick Edwards (@Folkmeister) April 26, 2018
Fire is often used as a containment tool for large wildfires.

That’s good advice.
Wow. You couldn't be more wrong.
Good guys with guns stop bad guys with guns all the time.
"Fighting fire with fire" is a real thing. Consult any forestry service for details.
Your "only love can drive out hate" would have lost us every war we've fought.

Both of your analogies are unhelpful in this context. There are certainly multiple ways to stop people from having guns who are dangerous, and without trampling the 2nd, we should do this. But in the moment, you would desire a gun to defeat another gun.

Reality isn’t always pretty … but that doesn’t make it any less real.
Being 14 years old, you have no idea what the world is about. Normally, I wouldn't say anything to a 14-year-old child but you are putting yourself out there as an "expert" and you're not. Please stop.
