I knew we'd have a plethora of screaming posts to choose from this morning after President Trump got up at the RNC last night and dangled a five-thousand-dollar dividend for every adult American if Republicans take the House and the Senate.
Granted, I assumed it would be a bunch of confused Democrats ... and for the most part, it is. Sure, there are plenty of people on the Right debating whether or not this makes any sense when we're $40 trillion in debt and asking where this money comes from, but overall, the screeching is coming from the 'big tent' of people who refuse to shave and take showers.
He framed it as a bonus check off economic strength, not another lecture about how you’re supposed to feel guilty for living here. And immediately — I mean immediately — half of X turned into amateur election lawyers. “That’s a bribe!” “That’s illegal!” Cute.
Where were these constitutional scholars when Washington was cutting stimulus checks like party favors and pretending student-loan “forgiveness” was just good vibes?
I do not get misty over politicians promising me money. I have seen this movie.
WATCH:
"Here is my promise, if the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the U.S Senate, both of them...because of our tremendous strength and success economically I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000." pic.twitter.com/Iy7OVq5vpk

Promises are cheap.
Congress is not. Well, they are, but that's another article.
If the pitch is “win both chambers and we’ll send you a check,” the grown-up question is whether the money is actually there, how it’s paid for, and whether anyone in this town can pass a bill without turning it into a 2,000-page Christmas tree.
That’s the part the pearl-clutchers skip, because “Trump bad” is easier than math.
And let’s be honest: this could very well be a troll. Democrats spent years selling cash, credits, and “relief” as moral duty. Now the same crowd is watching a Republican put a number on a podium and act like they’ve never heard of a campaign promise.
If the point was to make them explain why their checks were compassion and this one is a crime, mission accomplished.
Still.
Watching them suddenly discover the Hatch Act in their group chats? That’s comedy. They didn’t mind when the check had a different logo on it.
As for me, I’ll believe the $5,000 when I see the appropriations language, not the applause line. Oh, and the 'how we'll pay for it without increasing inflation' explanation as well.
Until then, I’ll be over here with my dead, snarky, conservative heart, watching both sides scream about “buying votes” while they try to buy votes.
Same circus. New tent.
