A retired Army medic and high-school teacher just took apart Rep. Ro Khanna and his latest scorecard of wars, tax cuts, and debt, and he did it the old-fashioned way: by reading the roll calls.
Mike Bski walks through the near-unanimous 2001 Afghanistan vote, the dozens of Senate and House Democrats who backed the Iraq authorization, and the Democratic majorities that later extended and then locked in most of the Bush-era tax cuts. He stacks the debt added under Bush, Obama, and Biden against Khanna’s own support for the American Rescue Plan, then notes that even the left-leaning Costs of War tally does not reach the figure Khanna is circulating.
The part that clearly bothers him most is not the partisan math.
It is a sitting member of Congress turning wars Bski treated patients in into a blame chart, while combat-wounded retirees are still waiting on a discharge petition for the Major Richard Star Act.
We'll let him drag Ro for himself (this is pretty badass):
Ro Khanna posted this last night. I read it twice looking for the true part, and I'm still looking. I was an Army medic in Iraq. When you're packing a wound at two in the morning, nobody asks how the patient's congressman voted. So it gets under my skin when a sitting member of Congress turns those wars into a partisan scorecard and then gets the score wrong. Start with Afghanistan. The 2001 authorization passed the Senate 98-0 and the House 420-1. The one no vote in the whole Capitol belonged to Barbara Lee, a Democrat from Ro's own state. Biden, Clinton, Kerry, Reid, and Schumer all voted yes. So did Bernie, which I'm guessing won't come up at their rally. Obama sent about 30,000 more troops in the surge, Democratic Congresses kept paying for it, and Biden's Autopen ran the exit. Thirteen service members died at Abbey Gate. I remember. I hope Ro does. Iraq: 29 Senate Democrats voted yes, including Biden, Clinton, Kerry, Edwards, Schumer, Reid, Daschle, and Feinstein. Over in the House, 81 Democrats voted yes, Adam Schiff and Ed Markey among them. Calling that "all Republican" takes real delusions of adequacy. The Bush tax cuts? In December 2010, Obama and a Democratic Congress extended them. In January 2013, Obama and a Democratic Senate made most of them PERMANENT. If you renew the lease and then buy the house, you don't get to keep calling it the landlord's place. Credit where it's earned: Democrats did vote against the 2017 tax law and against the Iran war. That's two out of Ro's six. In my classroom that's a 33 percent. That's an F, and I'd go lower if the gradebook let me. Now the debt, the part that should keep every parent up at night: o Bush: +$4.9 trillion o Obama: +$9.3 trillion o Biden's Autopen: +$8.5 trillion Obama by himself added almost twice what Bush did. CBO says the long-term drivers are Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and interest on what we already owe. Ro voted for the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, every dollar of it borrowed, and somehow it never made his list. He couldn't pour water out of a boot with instructions on the heel, but he managed to leave his own vote off the tab. His $10 trillion is made up too. Brown University's Costs of War project, the left's favorite source on this, puts ALL post-9/11 war costs at about $8 trillion through 2022, and that already includes veterans' care out to 2050 plus interest. Iran isn't in it. If Ro's math leaves you confused, that's on purpose. He's muddying the water so it looks deep. Jim Quinn's Second Law: watch what liberals accuse conservatives of doing. Logicians call Ro's move non causa pro causa (false cause). Grab six events, staple a number on them, blame whoever you don't like. What's next? A Democrat votes for the war, funds it for a decade, extends the tax cuts, and then blames Republicans for the bill... wait, I'm looking at the screenshot. He already did. And the "tax the rich" sermon comes from one of the wealthiest men in Congress. Ro, file this year with the standard deduction only and mail the IRS double what you owe. Then I will listen. Here's what actually makes me mad. Combat-wounded veterans who were medically retired out of those same wars still have their retirement pay docked because they also draw disability. The Major Richard Star Act (HR 2102) fixes that for about $10 billion over ten years, pocket lint next to Ro's numbers. If you care what those wars cost, Congressman, the people who paid it are waiting. The discharge petition is H.Res. 1247. Sign it. One last question. Besides spending borrowed money, what have you done that left one family LESS dependent on Washington? Keeping an underclass waiting on the next check and voting for whoever promises it isn't compassion. The antebellum South depended on a dependent class too, and nobody should call that progress. Which line item would you cut? Tell me in the comments. Ro, I saved you a seat up front. But what do I know, I'm only an old Army medic who reads the roll call before he posts. #MAGA #Veterans #Trump @TPUSA @JoJoFromJerz @atrupar @TheYoungTurks
